Chapter 440 Flirting and Bickering

Seb leaned in close and whispered in Susan's ear, "Looks like you need some good grub. I'll find a top-notch doc for you soon!"

"Ugh, you're the one who needs it," Susan shot back, giving Seb a playful smack.

Seb grinned, "If I get any more, you won't be able to keep up."

He said it just loud enough for Leon to catch, making Susan's cheeks turn red.

She turned away, deciding it wasn't worth the back-and-forth. Even though she was quick with comebacks, she knew this was a losing battle.

Seeing her pout, Seb tried to smooth things over.

"So, where are we heading for our honeymoon? Got any ideas?" he asked, gently playing with her fingers.

Whenever he got all sweet like this, she couldn't stay mad.

"I wanna go to Averlake," she said, back to her usual tone.

Seb raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Averlake, huh? Not the usual honeymoon spot. Most folks go for Azure Haven."

"I just wanna go to Averlake," Susan insisted, giving him a playful smile.

Seb patted her hand. "Alright, Averlake it is!"

With his agreement, Susan beamed and rested her head on his shoulder.

Even though they'd been bickering all morning, these little spats didn't bother her. In fact, she kinda liked them—they made her feel more alive and hungry after all the energy spent.

Seb looked at her tenderly and said, "The wedding dress we ordered is getting air-shipped from Italy next week. Let's carve out some time to take our wedding photos."

Susan laughed, "Should we bring Hayden and Spring for the pics?"

"Up to you," Seb chuckled.

Susan looked up at him, "Then our wedding photos will be one of a kind."

"Everyone in Maple Valley will be so jealous, us getting hitched with our kids," Seb laughed.

"More like they'll be gossiping," Susan said.

"Let 'em talk. As long as we're happy," Seb said with a smirk.

Susan smiled, feeling the rush of happiness.

As soon as Susan walked into the office, Isabella rushed over. "Finally! I called you a bunch of times. I was about to ring Seb, thinking something happened."

Susan checked her phone and saw it was on silent. She figured Seb must've done it and smiled.

"Oh, I overslept and my phone was on silent," Susan said casually.

Isabella raised an eyebrow, "Was Seb too demanding last night?"

Isabella hit the nail on the head, but Susan had to play it cool. "Don't be ridiculous. He got home super late, and I was already out cold."

"Yeah, right," Isabella said with a smirk.

"I think you're just thirsty, always poking fun at us. You should hurry up and snag yourself a man!" Susan laughed, heading to her office.

But then Isabella grabbed her arm, looking serious. "Enough joking. I gotta tell you something. The building management came by to collect rent from the office across the hall. Turns out, Amelia still owes on the utility bills."

Susan frowned. "Looks like she's really hit rock bottom."

"Do you think Sophia would be in trouble so soon? After all, she'd hooked up with Dominic. He can't be going under that quickly, can he?" Isabella asked, puzzled.

Susan replied, "Ethan took half of Dominic's assets. The company still belongs to Dominic, but Ethan pulled a lot of Capgemini Software's working capital. If their investments flop, they could be in a cash crunch."

"Sophia really seems to bring bad luck. Dominic was doing fine, but soon after she married him, he hit a cash flow crisis," Isabella said, gloating.

Susan laughed, "Alright, let's focus on our own stuff. We have a client meeting later."

"Got it," Isabella said, raising her voice.

In the afternoon, while Susan was swamped with work, her phone rang. It was Seb.

"Why are you calling now?" Susan asked, balancing the phone between her shoulder and ear while jotting down notes.

"I miss you," came the deep, affectionate reply.

Hearing this, Susan smiled and put down her pen, giving the call her full attention.

"We've only been apart for five hours, okay?" Susan said, though she missed him too.

"Five hours is three hundred minutes, eighteen thousand seconds. It's been forever," Seb's voice was deep and magnetic.

Susan smiled. "I see you're getting better at sweet-talking girls."

But inside, she was thrilled. She thought he wouldn't say such cheesy things, but when he did, he nailed it.

Then Seb laughed, "What girls? You're a married woman now. Don't forget your status!"

"What? Are you saying I'm an old, washed-up woman now?" Susan retorted.

"Even if you were, it wouldn't matter. I'm not selling you for money," Seb laughed heartily.

"Seb, do you have something to say or not? If not, I'm hanging up!" Susan knew that whenever he sweet-talked her, he had an agenda.

"I do," Seb quickly said, sensing she was about to hang up.

"Then spit it out," Susan said, a bit annoyed.

Seb then said, "There's a party tomorrow night. I want you to come with me."

"What kind of party?" Susan really didn't want to deal with those pretentious events.

"It's the annual Maple Valley government shindig for the business elites. They pick the Business Person of the Year to boost the local business scene," Seb replied.
