Chapter 147 Overflowing Happiness

That night, Susan stared at her phone for ages.

She wanted to call Seb to ask about George and Vivian, and his relationship with George. But she worried he might get the wrong idea. Even if she tried to mediate, it might be pointless or make things worse.

Now, Vivian thought she had something with George, and even Seb was suspicious of her contact with him. So, she had to hold back.

She couldn't change the situation between George and Vivian or Seb and George right now. She just had to wait and see.

Suddenly, her WhatsApp chimed.

It was a message from Seb.

[Can't sleep thinking of you, so I sent a message. That shouldn't break any rules, right?]

Susan smiled at the message.

Since when did Seb care about rules? He was always so bold and wild. Now, he was apologizing and asking for permission.

[Exception for today.] she quickly typed back.

[What did you do today?] Seb replied almost instantly.

Holding her phone, Susan felt happy. This texting reminded her of her first love years ago.

[Drank too much with Isabella last night, slept all morning, then went job hunting in the afternoon.]

Seb quickly replied, but this time with a concerned tone.

[Why are you, a woman, drinking too much? What if something happened?]

Susan immediately replied: [What could happen? It's a law-abiding society now, and Maple Valley has good security.]

After sending the message, there was no response from Seb for a while. She wondered if he was angry.

Then her phone beeped again.

This time, Susan got a bit angry after reading Seb's message.

[Maple Valley's security is good, but I'm afraid you'll end up like last time, randomly picking someone to go to a hotel with.]

[Last time was an accident, okay?] Susan immediately replied.

[I'm just afraid of more accidents in the future.] Seb quickly replied.

Susan thought for a moment and then typed back: [I won't be that foolish again.]

[You're just lucky!]

[If it weren't for that accident, we wouldn't have our story now.]

[So no more accidents. You can only have accidents with me.]

[You're so domineering.]

[Any man would be domineering with his woman. What, you don't like it?]

[What if I like it? What if I don't?]

[If you like it, I'll keep being domineering. If you don't, I'll be domineering until you do.]

[Annoying!]

The chat turned warm and tender, with them exchanging sweet nothings.

[How's the job search going today?] Seb suddenly changed the topic.

Susan typed a few lines to complain: [Big companies aren't hiring accountants now. The ones hiring are small companies with poor pay and prospects. So, I want to keep looking. If I can't find anything, I'll just take a job at a small company for now.]

[The economy's rough right now. Big companies are laying off staff, so they won't be hiring accountants. Small companies have high turnover, so they need financial staff. I suggest you wait until you get your CPA certificate to look for a job. By then, it'll be after the new year, and the economy might rebound. After the year-end and beginning-of-year staff changes, big companies will likely hire to fill gaps. With your CPA, you'll be more competitive.] Seb advised.

Susan admired Seb's economic insight but still frowned.

[Waiting until after the new year means another two months. I can't stay idle that long. I think I'll find a job for now; otherwise, I'll be bored at home.]

[How could you be idle? We could get married, and you could be a wealthy housewife.]

Susan's eyes widened. Was this a proposal? It seemed so casual.

She hadn't thought about marriage. Although she and Seb had been married before, this time felt different.

[Why aren't you saying anything?] Seb sent another message, noticing her silence.

[Nothing, I just went to the bathroom.]

[I thought you were scared!]

[Scared of what?]

[Scared of marrying me.]

[That's a joke. It's not like I haven't married you before.]

[In that case, let's get married soon.]

Susan realized she had fallen into Seb's trap.

[I'm talking to you about work, why are you changing the subject?]

[We are talking about work. The position of CEO's wife.]

[I'm not interested in that position.]

[Then be my wife.]

[Isn't that the same thing?]

[Either way, the position is yours.]

[I still need to work in the future.]

[I didn't say you couldn't have a side job. Your main job will be my wife, and you can do whatever you want on the side.]

[That I can consider.] Susan replied, raising her chin.

[But if you really want a side job, I have a suggestion.]

[What suggestion?] Susan was curious.

[Come back to Prosperity Group!]

Susan immediately rejected the idea.

[I don't want to be your colleague!]

[Then be my subordinate.]

[What's the difference?]

They kept chatting until late at night, and Susan accidentally fell asleep.

The next day, Susan woke up to the sun high in the sky at almost ten o'clock, wondering how she had overslept again.

They had chatted until three in the morning. No wonder she overslept. She wouldn't be able to go job hunting this morning. If she kept being this lazy, she would starve.

Picking up her phone, Susan's eyes widened. Seb had sent her dozens of messages she hadn't seen.

Opening the messages, Susan read them one by one, feeling a sense of happiness overflow.

[Why aren't you talking?]

[Say something?]

[Did you fall asleep?]

[Really?]

[Then I'll sleep too.]

[Good night!]
