Chapter 48 Fainting
For three days straight, there was no word from Seb, and Susan couldn't help but miss him.
On the third day, she finally caved and sent him a WhatsApp message, worried that a call might interrupt his work or rest.
But half a day went by with no reply. Susan figured he was probably swamped or hadn't checked his messages.
Luckily, Susan had been super busy herself, running errands and dealing with deliveries at home. All the chaos helped keep Seb off her mind.
Still, during those long nights, she'd sometimes toss and turn, thinking about him. But she wouldn't admit it. She blamed her sleeplessness on her strong pregnancy symptoms, which made Seb's image pop into her head.
That morning, the doorbell rang, and Susan rushed to answer it.
She opened the door to find two workers standing there with boxes.
One of them smiled and asked, "Ms. Wilson? Did you order two carpets? We're here to deliver them."
"Yeah, that's me. Come on in," Susan said, stepping aside.
After they brought the boxes in, Susan smiled and offered, "Thanks for your hard work. Let me get you some water."
"No need, really," they both said, waving their hands.
"It's a hot day. A little water won't hurt. Just a sec," Susan insisted, heading to the kitchen.
But as she reached the kitchen door, she suddenly felt dizzy, her eyes closed, and she collapsed.
"Miss, are you okay?" The workers rushed over to help her.
Susan vaguely heard someone calling her, but within seconds, she was out cold.
In her unconscious state, she heard voices but couldn't open her eyes. She could make out a conversation between two people.
"Doctor, how is she?" Seb's voice sounded anxious.
"Mr. Anderson, we did a full check-up. She's generally okay. She fainted from overexertion, especially since she's pregnant. She needs to avoid overexertion," a male doctor replied.
"And the baby?" Seb asked.
"The fetus is fine, but she needs bed rest for a week and some medication to support the pregnancy," the doctor said.
"Are you sure they're both okay?" Seb's voice was filled with doubt.
The doctor smiled cautiously, "Mr. Anderson, doctors aren't gods. No one can give you that kind of guarantee."
"I'm sorry, I'm just really worried."
"It's okay, I understand," the doctor said, then turned to leave.
At that moment, Susan finally managed to open her heavy eyelids. She saw Seb's anxious face. His hair was a mess, he wasn't wearing a tie, and a few buttons on his shirt were undone—totally unlike his usual neat appearance.
Seeing the worry in Seb's eyes, Susan couldn't help but smile. 'He does care about me, doesn't he?' she thought.
"Mrs. Anderson, you're awake?" Ellie, who had been standing by the bed, suddenly noticed Susan stirring and exclaimed in surprise.
Hearing Ellie's voice, Seb stepped closer. His deep eyes met Susan's, and she smiled at him. From his conversation with the doctor, she could tell he cared.
But then Seb's face turned stern. "You're an adult, how can you be so careless? You're pregnant, don't you know that? Why did you exhaust yourself cleaning that old house? Luckily, those delivery guys brought you to the hospital and found my number on your phone. Do you understand what could've happened?"
"I understand," Susan mumbled, her voice barely audible.
Feeling guilty, she lowered her head. She had wanted to clean the house before he returned, but her body couldn't handle it, and she fainted after just three days of work.
Seb glanced at his watch. "I have an important meeting soon. Ellie will stay here to take care of you. I have to go."
As he was about to leave, Susan suddenly sat up and grabbed his arm, anxiously asking, "Did you notify my mom?"
Catherine was easily frightened and couldn't handle stress. If she knew Susan was hospitalized, she would be extremely worried.
Seb looked at her for a moment before answering, "Since you're not in serious condition, I didn't notify Catherine to avoid worrying her."
Hearing this, Susan sighed in relief. "That's good. If my mom knew, she would definitely scold me."
"I think she should come and scold you," Seb said flatly.
"Can you stop being so harsh?" Susan's eyes showed a pleading light.
At that moment, she saw Seb seem to look at her deeply. Although his face showed no expression, she felt a hint of concern in his eyes, which made her happy.
"Can you let go of me now?" Seb suddenly said coldly.
Realizing she was still holding his arm, Susan blushed, quickly let go, and lowered her eyes, not daring to look at him. She scolded herself, 'What are you doing? It's only been a few days, no need to act like this.'
"I'm leaving," Seb said, then turned and left.
After Seb left, the room became very quiet. Susan looked up at the smiling Ellie and said, "Sorry you had to see that."
Ellie smiled. "Every couple has their own way of flirting."
Susan stared blankly at Ellie. 'Was I flirting with Seb just now?' she thought.
"But your flirting style with Mr. Anderson is quite something. I always wondered how Mr. and Mrs. Anderson would flirt, and today I got a firsthand look," Ellie said, hand over mouth.
Susan felt a bit embarrassed and awkwardly smiled. "He just likes to tease me."
Susan couldn't find any other words. Should she say that she and Seb were just a couple without any real feelings for each other?
