Chapter 1306 Catching the True Form
At that moment, Elijah looked closely at Cecilia and said, "I'm worried you might take my mom's words to heart and leave Daryl."
Elijah's remark struck at Cecilia's concerns. Yet she would never concede this truth - for should Elijah discern her genuine thoughts, any possibility of departure would vanish irrevocably.
Cecilia laughed and said, "What are you talking about? I would never leave Daryl. How could I be so foolish as to give up my marriage and the person I love just because of a few words from mom?"
"It's not ideal, but I feel like something's been off with you lately," Elijah said, his eyes filled with worry.
To throw Elijah off, Cecilia said, "I'm just heartbroken over my brother losing his child. And it reminds me of the child I lost. My heart aches so much. If that child were still here, they'd probably be calling you 'uncle' by now."
As she spoke, tears began to fall from Cecilia's eyes.
"Cecilia, with how advanced medicine is these days, you and Daryl are still young. You might have children in the future. Don't be so pessimistic," Elijah said, frowning as he tried to comfort her.
"You don't understand anything about having children. If a woman's uterus is severely damaged, she can't get pregnant," Cecilia said, shaking her head sadly.
"I know you're a very kind woman. I believe God wouldn't be so unfair to you. You will have children," Elijah said, stepping forward and gripping Cecilia's shoulders, his eyes filled with a protective instinct.
Cecilia glanced down at his hands on her shoulders, feeling a bit uncomfortable. She quickly looked up to meet Elijah's gaze and frowned, "Elijah, let go."
But before Cecilia could finish her words, a stern and angry voice came from behind them.
"Have you two had enough?"
Startled by the sudden voice, Cecilia instinctively turned around.
What she saw made her gasp in shock. A tall man in a black trench coat stood just a few dozen feet away.
"Daryl?" Cecilia frowned.
"Daryl?" Elijah quickly withdrew his hands from Cecilia's shoulders and stood up.
Seeing Daryl appear so suddenly, Cecilia stood up and walked over to him, surprised. "Daryl, weren't you in Skyhaven? When did you get back?"
Daryl stood there, his face dark and his eyes filled with a cold, piercing glare at Cecilia.
His gaze sent chills down Cecilia's spine. Since they had reconciled, he had never looked at her like this.
Daryl gritted his teeth and said, "You probably wish I never came back."
"What do you mean by that?" Cecilia asked, feeling uneasy about Daryl's strange expression.
Daryl ignored Cecilia and turned his murderous gaze toward Elijah, who was standing a few steps away.
"Daryl, why are you here?" Elijah asked.
The next moment, Daryl pushed Cecilia aside and stormed toward Elijah.
Cecilia stumbled and let out a small cry.
Daryl stormed up to Elijah and, unable to contain his rage, punched him square in the face!
The blow was hard, and Elijah hit the ground, dazed and unable to get up for a moment.
Seeing Daryl hit Elijah so violently, Cecilia rushed over and demanded, "Daryl, what the hell are you doing? Why did you hit him?"
Daryl's cold eyes fixed on Cecilia, and he asked painfully, "What? Are you feeling sorry for him?"
Cecilia was stunned, taking a moment to process before asking, "Daryl, what's worry with you?"
Elijah had already gotten up, holding his now blackened eye, and shouted, "Daryl, what the hell? I'm your brother, don't you know that?"
Daryl grabbed Elijah by the collar and pointed a finger at his nose, demanding, "You still remember you're my brother? That I'm your older brother?"
"Don't mock me. If you have something to say, just say it. At least let me know why I'm being hit!" Elijah shouted, his eyes filled with frustration.
Daryl's anger only grew. He tightened his grip on Elijah's collar and demanded, "How dare you ask me? I caught you red-handed, and you're still pretending?"
Elijah asked, "Caught us? Are you talking about me and Cecilia?"
It was then that Cecilia understood why Daryl was so angry.
Right, when Elijah was comforting her earlier, he had accidentally grabbed her shoulders. Realizing this, Cecilia felt both embarrassed and angry. How could Daryl think that? Elijah was his own brother.
Cecilia stepped forward and said, "Daryl, what are you talking about? Elijah is your brother. How could you think something so disgusting?"
Daryl's cold gaze swept over both Elijah and Cecilia, and he scoffed, "You know it's disgusting? If you knew it was disgusting, you wouldn't do something so disgraceful. What do you take me for? Have you ever thought about my feelings?"
Daryl pushed Elijah hard, making him stumble.
Seeing Daryl so stubborn, Cecilia held back her anger and explained, "Daryl, listen to me. There's nothing between Elijah and me. Don't say such things. Do you know that by saying this, you're not only insulting me and Elijah but also yourself?"
"Daryl, Cecilia and I are innocent. We..."
Elijah tried to explain, but Daryl's face turned even darker. "You two are here, holding each other and crying, and you expect me to believe there's nothing between you? Do you think I'm an idiot? Do I have to catch you in bed to make you admit it?"
Unable to bear it any longer, Cecilia slapped Daryl across the face.
The sound of the slap echoed in the air.
Though the slap landed on Daryl's face, it hurt him deeply in his heart.
He frowned, his eyes filled with pain as he looked at Cecilia and asked, "Cecilia, what have I done wrong? Why are you doing this to me? Even if you wanted to betray me, why choose my own brother? Have you ever thought about my feelings? Do you have any conscience?"
