Chapter 715 Petty and Narrow-Minded
Hearing the broadcast, Susan became even more anxious. She bent down to hold both children in her arms, taking the last moments to kiss their foreheads.
"Time's almost up. Let the kids go in quickly," Seb said, his eyes full of reluctance but still managing to control himself.
"Okay." Susan held back her tears and sent Hayden and Spring to the boarding gate.
Kathy and Mary saw Susan's reluctance and repeatedly promised to take good care of the two children.
Susan watched reluctantly as Hayden and Spring disappeared into the boarding gate.
When they were out of sight, Susan was already in tears.
Seb held Susan in his arms and comforted her, "Come on, why are you more fragile than the kids now? This isn't like you."
"What was I like before?" Susan took the tissue Seb handed her, wiping her nose as she spoke.
"You used to be fearless, ready to take on the world, no matter what," Seb said, smiling at Susan as she wiped her nose.
"Get away!" Susan pushed Seb and complained, "I'm feeling sad, and you're teasing me."
"Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore. Can we go back now?" Seb looked at his watch.
"No, I want to watch the plane take off before we leave," Susan said, looking up at the large transparent glass window in front of her.
"Okay, we'll watch the plane take off before we go," Seb said, smiling as he held Susan and sat on the nearby seat.
After Hayden and Spring left, Seb knew Susan was in a bad mood, so he often tried to cheer her up.
That day, just before getting off work, Susan's phone rang.
Seeing it was Seb's number, Susan smiled and answered, "Hello?"
"Are you almost off work?" Seb's voice quickly came from the other end.
"I have to stay a bit longer today, there's a case that requires an extra half hour," Susan said, frowning.
Hearing this, Seb said, "That's perfect. I have a bit of work to finish too. I'll pick you up at six-thirty."
"So, what are we having for dinner? I've been so busy today, I don't have the energy to cook," Susan said with a hint of playfulness in her voice.
Recently, Susan had been in a relatively good mood. Although she missed the kids every day, she could talk to them on the phone daily. Seb had been very gentle with her lately, not even teasing her, which made Susan feel very touched.
"Let's eat out," Seb said.
"What should we eat?" Susan asked immediately.
"Whatever you want," Seb said gently.
"How about Mexican food? Last time, Isabella and I went to a high-end Mexican restaurant. The food was excellent, though a bit pricey," Susan said, smiling.
"I'll treat you, okay?" Seb said, pretending to be generous.
"Of course it's your treat! Did you think I was going to pick up the tab?" Susan laughed.
"Alright, see you later," Seb said and hung up.
Knowing he was busy, Susan quickly got back to work, looking forward to the big dinner that night.
In the evening, Susan took Seb to the Mexican restaurant she had visited with Isabella.
After sitting down, Susan skillfully ordered the dishes and handed the menu back to the waiter.
After the waiter left, Seb looked at Susan and asked, "You seem familiar with this place?"
"I've only been here once," Susan replied.
"With whom?" Seb asked immediately.
Hearing this, Susan stared at Seb for a moment, then laughed and said, "Who do you think?"
"Was it a man or a woman?" Seb asked.
"Now you're just fishing for information," Susan laughed, recognizing a hint of mock jealousy in his voice. Honestly, who did he think she went out with? What a silly man.
"Well, if you don't tell me, I'll just have to assume the worst," Seb declared dramatically, pulling out his cigarettes and lighter with a flourish.
Seeing he was about to smoke, Susan frowned. "This restaurant doesn't allow smoking!"
Hearing this, Seb looked around and found a man smoking at another table. He pointed at the man and smiled, saying, "You're lying. Look, that guy is smoking."
"Oh, stop being difficult," Susan chided, though her tone was light.
"Alright, I'll be good today," Seb said, sitting up straight but then stretched his neck and asked, "But you have to tell me who you came here with last time."
Susan couldn't help but smile. "Isabella."
Hearing this, Seb was stunned for a moment, then lowered his head and laughed.
Seeing his expression, Susan frowned. "Who did you think it was?"
Seb smiled and looked up, answering, "I knew it was Isabella. You two, despite being women, are both foodies!"
"I knew you were petty," Susan said, placing a plate in front of Seb.
Soon, the waiter brought the Mexican dishes.
Susan and Seb began to eat with great enjoyment.
"Mm, this Mexican food is really good!" Seb said, nodding as he ate.
"Of course, this meal costs an average person's half-month salary," Susan said, rolling her eyes at Seb.
"It's called value for money," Seb said, holding his knife and fork towards the Mexican food.
"You grew up in a wealthy family, so you don't know what an average person's life is like," Susan said, shaking her head.
At this moment, Seb suddenly stared at the Mexican food in a daze.
Seeing Seb's dazed look, Susan asked curiously, "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm thinking about my dad and your mom," Seb said, his mood visibly low.
Susan knew that Todd and Catherine's actions had deeply hurt him, so Seb rarely mentioned them and didn't actively contact Todd.
Although Susan knew Seb's approach was not entirely right, she couldn't persuade him much because she couldn't fully empathize with his feelings.
"Why bring them up suddenly?" Susan usually avoided mentioning them in front of Seb to keep him from getting upset.
"Nothing," Seb shook his head. "It's just...they were so different. Different backgrounds, different values, different everything. I never understood how they ended up together in the first place."
