Chapter 1040 Rat In a Corner
That evening, when Leon got home, dinner was almost ready.
Isabella handed Milo to the nanny and followed Leon to the bathroom to wash their hands.
Since their reconciliation, Isabella had been particularly clingy with Leon, as if she couldn't get enough of him.
Naturally, Leon also enjoyed the current state of things, feeling that Isabella had become much gentler than before, though she could still be quite fierce at times.
"Hey, when can we get rid of the bodyguards at the front door?" Isabella couldn't help but ask Leon as they washed their hands.
Since they moved back, Leon had arranged for two bodyguards at the front door.
Those two burly bodyguards looked intimidating just by their size.
"It'll be a while longer," Leon replied.
Hearing this, Isabella frowned and said, "What? The neighbors are too scared to even greet me when they see the bodyguards at our door!"
Leon chuckled at this, and after drying his hands, he wrapped his arm around Isabella's waist. "That's great, it saves me from having to deal with any male neighbors trying to hit on you because you're so beautiful."
"Stop it, I wish I were that attractive," Isabella said, touching her face with a lack of confidence.
Hearing this, Leon touched Isabella's face and said, "Well, you certainly attract me."
"Smooth talker!" Isabella gave Leon a sidelong glance, but her lips curled into a smile, and she felt a warm happiness inside.
"Really? Then why don't you feel just how smooth?" The next moment, Leon leaned in to kiss Isabella.
Isabella pushed Leon's face away with her hand, frowning. "Alright, it's time for dinner. You haven't seen Milo all day, don't you miss him?"
"Of course I do," Leon said, lowering his head at the mention of Milo.
"Go ahead then." Isabella urged, giving Leon a push.
Leon grabbed Isabella's wrist and they walked out of the bathroom together.
At that moment, Kathy suddenly approached, frowning. "Mr. Johnson, there's a Ms. Langley outside insisting on seeing you!"
Hearing that, Isabella couldn't help but frown.
The next moment, Leon and Isabella exchanged a glance, and Isabella asked, "Could it be Bronte?"
She couldn't recall knowing any other woman with the last name Langley.
Leon frowned slightly, then said to Kathy, "Let her in."
"Okay," Kathy responded and left.
Hearing that Leon wanted Bronte to come inside, Isabella immediately felt a bit unhappy.
Leon looked at Isabella and said, "What's done is done, I need to make things clear with her."
Hearing this, Isabella met Leon's gaze and saw a determined light in his eyes, so she nodded.
Although there was nothing between him and Bronte, there had been some entanglement, and it was right to make a clean break.
The next moment, the sound of high heels rapidly clicking on the floor echoed.
Bronte stood in the middle of the living room, her eyes fixed on Leon, who was six feet away.
"Leon, you're so cruel, I really misjudged you!" Bronte's face was terrifyingly pale, and her tone was so cold it sent chills down one's spine.
Hearing this, Leon took two steps forward, standing in front of Bronte, his gaze calm and composed. "Bronte, I'm sorry for the hurt I've caused you, but I had no choice!"
"No choice? If you had chosen to divorce her and be with me, we would be a happy family, and my father wouldn't be in prison because of you!" Bronte angrily pointed at Leon and accused.
Leon replied righteously, "Bronte, you're educated, how can you not distinguish right from wrong? I love Isabella, and she is my wife. No matter who you are, I can't divorce Isabella to marry you. If your father hadn't tried to destroy me, I wouldn't have wanted to settle old scores with him. Since he wouldn't let me go and wanted to take over Johnson Corporation, then I'm sorry, I had to retaliate. He embezzled millions of dollars from Johnson Corporation, and now he's in prison because of his own actions!"
Bronte was rendered speechless by Leon's retort. She clutched her chest in pain and said, "What about me? Are you indifferent to everything I've done for you? I love you so much that I dared to defy my father for you. If it weren't for me, my father would have killed you long ago. It's all my fault to cause him in this situation."
Leon frowned as he looked at Bronte, hesitated for a moment, and then tried to comfort her, "Bronte, your father committed a financial crime, his life is not in danger. I hope you can live well in the future, you deserve a happy life."
But Bronte was ungrateful, sneering. "My life has been ruined by you! Leon, I must have been blind to fall in love with someone as heartless as you."
"As long as it makes you feel better, you can curse me all you want. I'm very grateful that you saved me that day, but I can't give you my love," Leon said, his eyes showing a hint of pity for Bronte.
At this moment, Bronte's gaze fell on Isabella standing next to Leon.
Bronte looked Isabella up and down with disdain and contempt. "I really don't understand, she's not as beautiful as me, doesn't have a better family background, isn't as talented, and isn't as charming. What do you see in her?"
"Bronte, when love comes, it doesn't matter who the other person is, you just fall in love. We just don't have that fate," Leon said.
Hearing this, Isabella turned to look at Leon and placed her hand in his.
Indeed, in front of Bronte, Isabella had no confidence. But Leon didn't love the more outstanding Bronte; Isabella didn't know if she was just lucky or if she had some other charm. In any case, she was very grateful to have this love that others could only dream of.
At this moment, a ruthless glint flashed in Bronte's eyes.
She quietly reached into her bag, and the next moment, she quickly pulled out a fruit knife and suddenly lunged towards Isabella. "It's all because of you! If it weren't for you, Leon would love me. I'll kill you!"
Seeing the gleaming knife, Isabella was terrified, her legs trembling. She wanted to dodge, but her mind was paralyzed with fear. Moreover, Bronte was only six feet away from Isabella. By the time she saw the knife, it was already too late.
Leon saw Bronte charging at Isabella with the knife like a madwoman. He frowned and wanted to push Isabella away, but it was already too late.
The next moment, Leon wrapped his arm around Isabella's waist, turned her around, and shielded her with his body.
Bronte saw Leon blocking Isabella with his body, her eyes widened, and the next moment, the fruit knife plunged into Leon's left side.
The sound of the knife slicing through flesh filled the air, followed by the scent of blood.
