Chapter 21

"Why are you here?" Susan gaped at Seb, totally shocked.

Seb stepped forward, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her out the back door of the ultrasound room.

"Let go of me! Where are you taking me?" Susan yelled, struggling to break free, but his grip was too strong.

He dragged her to a secluded stairwell before finally letting go.

"Mr. Anderson, could you please show some respect?" Susan snapped, rubbing her sore wrist.

Seb pulled out a piece of paper and held it up in front of her.

Susan squinted at it and went pale.

"How did you get this?" she asked, her voice shaky.

It was her ultrasound report, confirming her pregnancy. She remembered putting it in her bag, but it had mysteriously vanished.

"You had a colleague named Melissa Clark, right? She took this report to HR to report you," Seb said.

So it was Melissa. No wonder there were rumors about someone having proof of her pregnancy. Melissa must have swiped it from her bag. And everyone knew Melissa and Amelia were tight, so Amelia had to be behind this.

Susan started to panic. She snatched the report from Seb's hand. "This is mine, thanks."

She turned to leave, but Seb blocked her path.

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"How long were you planning to keep this from me?" Seb demanded, eyes locked on hers.

"What do I have to hide from you?" Susan tried to play dumb.

Seb frowned. "You're carrying my child. Did you think I wouldn't find out?"

Susan's mind raced. What did he want? An abortion? To take the baby? No way she was losing her child.

She looked up and sneered. "Mr. Anderson, you're too confident. Yes, I'm pregnant, but you're not the only man I've been with. How do you know the baby is yours?"

Seb's face darkened. He grabbed her wrist again, his grip tight. "Don't ever say that again!"

"I'm telling the truth," Susan said, lifting her chin defiantly.

Seb took a deep breath, his expression softening. "That was your first time, and you haven't been with anyone else in the past month. You've only met one man, and although Henry Thompson seemed to impress you, you never responded. So the baby should be mine, right?"

Susan stared at him, realizing she couldn't hide it anymore. She started thinking about the consequences of admitting it.

Seb must have come to settle this. With his background, this probably wasn't his first rodeo. He might offer her a check or a bank card and tell her to handle it herself.

Susan suddenly had a plan: if Seb gave her a bank card, she'd take it. She needed the money. Then she'd quit her job, disappear, have the baby, and raise it on her own.

"Why the silence? Are you still denying it??" Seb grabbed her shoulders.

Susan nodded. "The child is yours."

Seb's tense expression finally relaxed.

"But you don't need to worry," she added. "I won't ask you to take responsibility, nor will I cling to you."

"What do you mean by that? Do you think I'm irresponsible or that I can't handle this?" Seb snapped, tightening his grip and shaking her.

Susan stared at him, then suddenly clutched her stomach and squatted down.

"What's wrong?" Seb's hand froze mid-air, panic setting in.

"My stomach hurts. Get a wheelchair. I need to see the OB-GYN," Susan said, frowning.

"I'll carry you," Seb offered, stepping forward.

Susan quickly waved him off. "You're being reckless. What if you hurt the baby?"

Seb, clueless and panicked, said, "Wait here, I'll be right back."

As Seb rushed off, Susan stood up and bolted out of the outpatient building. She was convinced Seb would force her to get an abortion, so she faked the stomachache to escape.

Just as she reached the stairs, she saw Isabella approaching.

"Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere," Isabella asked.

Susan didn't have time to answer. Suddenly, Amelia, dressed to the nines, walked over and smirked. "Susan, congrats on your out-of-wedlock pregnancy!"

Susan clenched her fists. Isabella stepped forward, grabbing her arm. "Amelia, don't go too far!"

With people milling around, Isabella worried others from the company might hear.

"Susan, you're something else. Even with evidence, you couldn't be kicked out of Prosperity Group. Did you find some powerful man? Whose illegitimate child are you carrying? Must be someone important, right?" Amelia sneered.

Susan pushed Isabella's hand away and stormed up to Amelia. Amelia took a step back. "Don't do anything rash. An out-of-wedlock pregnancy isn't something to be proud of."

Seeing Amelia back off, Susan sneered. "Since you're so curious, I'll tell you."

"Who?" Isabella asked, squinting.

"The President's. Satisfied?" Susan said disdainfully, then turned to leave.

Amelia, even more excited, shouted, "You think you're worthy? It's probably some security guard or delivery guy."

Isabella caught up with Susan, grabbing her arm. "Susan, don't listen to Amelia. She just can't stand to see you doing well."

"I know what she's like," Susan said with a bitter smile.

Isabella pouted. "Did you hear? Amelia resigned yesterday."

"How could she leave Prosperity Group?" Susan asked, surprised.

"I don't know. She got a big contract. Rumor has it she's handling the entire company's women's insurance. You saw how smug she was. By the way, whose baby are you carrying?" Isabella asked, unable to resist.

Seeing Susan stay silent, Isabella quickly added, "If you don't want to say, that's fine. I'm just curious."

Susan pulled Isabella to a secluded spot, worried Seb might catch up. Then she told Isabella everything.

Isabella was stunned.

After a moment, Isabella grabbed Susan's hand. "Let's go find the capitalist."

Isabella called Seb a capitalist because she felt he was exploiting them.

"He already found me. I ran because I was afraid he'd make me get an abortion.I'm concerned about him seeking me out; I'm done conversing with you!" Susan then fled the hospital.
