Chapter 816 Come Back to Me

Hearing Seb's words, Susan felt a pang of guilt and said, "Honestly, it's all on me. If I'd told you about my history with Andrew the first time I saw him, maybe things wouldn't have blown up like this."

If Carol and Rylee were still around, they would probably live together happily.

Seb let out a long sigh and said, "It's all in the past now, let's not dwell on it."

"Okay." Susan nodded, tears welling up in her eyes.

Then Seb said, "I miss you so much. Please come back to me as soon as you can!"

Susan's heart swelled with emotion. She wished she could just sprout wings and fly to Seb right then and there.

But after calming down, Susan said, "In just two weeks, Isabella will finish her first trimester. I promised her I'd stay with her through these three months. Plus, if I go back, I need to get some seasonal clothes ready for Hayden and Spring."

With Carol's cause of death cleared up, her last words didn't matter anymore, and the rift between them was gone. Susan was overjoyed.

On the other end, Seb said jealously, "I mean less to you than a friend."

Susan laughed and said, "You're a grown man; you should know how to prioritize, right? Besides, two weeks will fly by. Once I handle things here, I'll come to you right away. By then, you better put your work aside and focus on me!"

Susan's tone was playfully teasing in that last sentence.

Hearing this, Seb smiled and said, "That's more like it."

Then Seb added, "When you come back, will you go with me to visit my mom's grave? We can explain everything to her there, and it'll give us some closure."

"Okay." Susan nodded firmly.

Mentioning Carol suddenly made the atmosphere heavy.

Maybe to lighten the mood or out of concern, Seb asked about Isabella, "How's Isabella doing lately?"

Susan replied, "She's holding up well. Everything's fine, but it's not quite the same as before."

"With you taking care of her, Leon can be at ease," Seb said.

Mentioning Leon, Susan asked, "By the way, which rich family's daughter did Leon fall for?"

"What?" Seb asked, puzzled.

Susan said, "Didn't Leon ditch Isabella and his kid to marry some rich family's daughter to climb the social ladder?"

Seb hesitated and said, "Alright, that's their business. Don't stress about it."

"I'm just curious which rich family's daughter is so loaded that Leon would abandon his wife and kid," Susan said, her tone full of reproach.

"Watch your words. Isabella isn't Leon's wife," Seb defended Leon.

"Yeah, Isabella didn't marry Leon, but the kid is his, right? I thought you were all about justice! Seems like you've changed," Susan reproached Seb as well.

Seeing Susan get upset, Seb quickly softened his tone. "Let's not argue over other people's business, okay?"

"Isabella is my best friend," Susan said, standing up for her friend.

"Leon is also my most capable subordinate and friend. How about we stay neutral? Whether they can be together isn't something we can decide by arguing, right?" Seb said, sounding a bit helpless.

Thinking it over, Susan realized he had a point.

When Susan went quiet, Seb quickly asked, "How are Hayden and Spring? Have they been causing any trouble?"

Mentioning Hayden and Spring, Susan knew Seb hadn't seen them for two months and must miss them a lot, so she quickly replied, "Hayden and Spring are doing great. They're well-behaved and doing well in school. They always talk about you. I told them you'd come to see them during the holidays, so they're really looking forward to it!"

Hearing this, Seb was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "Susan, how about after this semester, I arrange for them to come back to Maple Valley? What do you think?"

Hearing this, Susan was naturally overjoyed. "That would be awesome!"

"The matter with Andrew will be completely resolved in a couple of days. I've decided to make peace with Evergreen Ventures Group and withdraw from the real estate competition in the neighboring city, giving the market entirely to them," Seb said.

Susan frowned and asked, "Why did you suddenly decide that? Haven't you been fiercely competing with Evergreen Ventures Group for years?"

Seb took a deep breath and said earnestly, "I've thought a lot these past few days. Not every situation needs to end in victory or defeat; there's often a middle ground. Although Evergreen Ventures Group, along with Andrew, plotted against me, they did it for business interests, so they weren't entirely wrong. Besides, I made them lose millions of dollars last time, which was a lesson for them. For long-term peace, I'll let them win this round. This way, I can feel more at ease about you and the kids. After all, having one more friend is better than having one more enemy."

Actually, Susan agreed with Seb's thinking, feeling he had become much more mature and composed. She also knew that Seb made this decision for the safety of her and their kids. After losing Carol and Rylee, he couldn't afford to lose any more loved ones.

For a moment, Susan's nose tingled with emotion. Being loved like this felt so happy and touching.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Not hearing Susan speak for a while, Seb asked with a smile.

Susan laughed and said, "I feel like you've matured and become even more charming."

"You've never praised me like this before," Seb teased.

"I'm genuinely praising you this time, but you have this annoying habit of showing off!" Susan laughed.
