Chapter 509 With Ulterior Motives
Seeing Andrew out of nowhere, Susan was totally caught off guard.
Andrew didn't waste a second. He grabbed her arm and yanked her behind a pillar in the corner.
"What the hell, Andrew? Let go of me!" Susan snapped, shaking off his grip.
Andrew looked a bit ticked off, shoving his hands into his pockets. "How'd you mess around with Seb?" he muttered.
Susan rolled her eyes, smirking. "Andrew, seriously? Seb and I are a thing. 'Mess around' is more your style, isn't it?"
She could tell he was on edge, probably worried she'd spill the beans about their past and mess things up with his wife.
Andrew took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool. "Susan, you're aiming to marry into the Anderson family, and I'm already in. We've both got what we wanted. Just keep your mouth shut about us, or we could lose everything. Got it?"
Susan looked at him, frowning. "Did you cheat because you actually loved Rylee, or were you just after the Anderson family's money and power?"
If it was just love, she could deal with it. But if he was just a gold-digger, that was a whole different story. Even though she was over him, she didn't want to think she fell for someone so low. After all, first loves always had a special place.
She'd been mulling it over for the past half hour but needed to hear it from him.
Andrew frowned, glancing at the sky outside. For the first time, he looked a bit guilty. "I owed you an explanation back then, but Susan, it's been five years. We've changed because of who we chose. It proves I made the right call."
Susan's eyes were ice-cold. She knew he was shameless, but this was a new level.
She regretted ever falling for him but was glad he cheated; otherwise, she'd be in a worse spot now.
Andrew went on, "If I hadn't picked Rylee, we'd be broke. After five years, we might not even afford a decent place in Maple Valley. Why suffer when you can have a better life?"
"So you don't love Rylee at all?" Susan felt bad for Rylee, that innocent girl caught up with this jerk.
Rylee was sweet and naive, living in her own little world, but Andrew had tainted that.
If Rylee stayed under her family's protection, Andrew might not dare to hurt her. But once he got more power and wasn't under the Anderson family's thumb, Rylee's fate could be even worse than Susan's back then.
"Hmph, being born into the right family is just dumb luck. She just hit the jackpot. Honestly, I respect you more!" Andrew said, reaching for Susan's hand.
Susan jerked back, disgusted. "Don't you dare touch me!"
Andrew just smirked. "I know you still hate my guts, but don't do anything stupid. We've worked too hard to get here, so don't mess it up!"
Susan knew spilling their past wouldn't help either of them.
She stared him down and said, "Fine, I'll keep quiet, but from now on, we act like strangers. You're just my sister-in-law's husband, and we stay out of each other's way!"
Andrew nodded. "Deal."
"Susan?" Seb's voice echoed from the hallway, getting closer.
Andrew got a bit panicky and whispered, "Aren't you going back?"
Susan shot him a cold look and walked out of the corner.
"Seb?" Susan met Seb as he was about to turn the corner.
Seb grabbed her arm, looking worried. "Why'd you take so long in the restroom?"
"I felt a bit stuffy, so I went to the window for some air," Susan pointed to the corner.
Seb frowned. "I know Mom was a bit much, but hang in there. Once the wedding's over, she'll head back to the central district. No need to make things awkward with Rylee around."
Seeing Seb's apologetic face, Susan smiled. "I get it, don't worry."
"I knew my wife was the best," Seb said, pulling her into a hug.
Susan smiled, gently pushing him away. "Let's go back."
"Alright." Hand in hand, they returned to the private room.
Not long after they sat down, Andrew walked back in.
Carol piped up, "Since Andrew's gonna work at Prosperity Group, and most of their business is in Maple Valley now, Andrew and Rylee should settle there. I need to buy them a house. Seb, call the finance department and transfer five million dollars to my account!"
Rylee was thrilled.
Andrew stayed cool. "Thanks, Mom."
"It's my job to take care of my daughter," Carol said, holding Rylee's hand with a smile.
Seb chimed in, "Mom, we can't just move company funds around. I'll have my secretary transfer the money from my personal account."
Todd looked stern. "What kind of house costs five million dollars?"
"Our Rylee needs a villa with a garden. Plus, renovations, furniture, and everything else will add up. Andrew's got work, and even though Rylee stays home, they each need a decent car. Five million might not even cut it," Carol said, counting on her fingers.
