Chapter 109 He's Here

"Hayden, Mary’s got a cold and doesn’t want to get you sick. So, Susan will look after you for now, okay?" George picked Hayden up and held him close.

Looking at the adorable Hayden, Susan felt an indescribable emotion well up inside her. If her child with Seb were alive, he’d be about Hayden’s age. She instinctively took Hayden into her arms.

Holding Hayden in her arms, Susan felt a mix of sadness and affection. She mourned her own son who had passed away, yet couldn't help but be charmed by this child.

Hayden couldn’t talk yet, just babbled and occasionally said a word, but he seemed to understand a lot.

He tried to feed Susan a cookie, babbling something like "eat."

"Thanks, Hayden, but I’m not hungry," Susan smiled.

Hayden insisted, so Susan took a small bite, making him laugh.

After two hours of playing, Hayden got attached to Susan, clinging to her neck.

George came over smiling, "How’s it going? Need any help?"

Susan, reluctant to let go of Hayden, asked, "What other options do you have?"

"Unless I take care of him myself, none," George said, touching Hayden’s chubby hand with a helpless smile.

"You’ve got court. Taking Hayden with you?" Susan joked.

George chuckled.

Wiping Hayden’s mouth, Susan said, "I’m not busy now. I’ll take care of him."

George was thrilled. "Thank you! You’re an angel of salvation!"

Susan rolled her eyes and smiled at Hayden. "Who could resist this cutie? I adore him."

Hayden seemed to understand and clapped his hands excitedly.

"This kid is really smart," Susan praised.

"Absolutely!" George agreed.

Mary explained Hayden’s routine, formula, food, clothes, diapers, and all the details. It took half an hour, and Susan took notes.

Mary left, still sick.

Hayden soon fell asleep in Susan’s arms. She gently put him in the crib, covered him with a blanket, and told George, "It’s late. You should go. Don’t you have court tomorrow?"

"I’ll see you both tomorrow," George said.

"No need. You’ve got two cases tomorrow. Mary said someone will cook and clean for us. I’ll handle Hayden. It’s a long drive for you," Susan said thoughtfully.

George paused, then nodded. "Call me if you need anything. I’ll head out."

"Okay," Susan agreed, seeing him out.

Back at the crib, Susan sat down and watched Hayden sleep, her emotions in turmoil.

If her child were alive, what would life be like? Walks, feeding, cuddling him to sleep.

Hayden had awakened her maternal instincts. After a few days, she started treating him like her own, and he loved clinging to her, touching her face with his chubby hands.

Hayden was easygoing, eating and sleeping without fuss. He even tried to feed Susan during meals. They bonded quickly.

Around nine that night, as Susan was putting Hayden to sleep, she picked up a magazine to avoid waking him with the TV.

She had just turned a few pages when she heard footsteps outside. Thinking it was George, she put down the magazine, but the door suddenly opened.

Seeing Seb, Susan was shocked.

Seb looked equally stunned. "What are you doing here?" he asked, frowning.

"What are you doing here?" Susan replied, confused. She remembered locking the door. Did Seb use a master key? Why was he here?

"This is my house. I have every right to be here. But why are you in my son’s room?" Seb’s eyes flicked to Susan’s nightgown.

"Your house, your son?" Susan looked at Hayden, still sleeping, utterly confused.

Seb walked over, staring down at her. "Didn’t you say you had nothing to do with me? So why are you in my son’s room? Playing hard to get?"

Susan was furious. She stood up, glaring at him. "Seb, you think too highly of yourself. I never look back!"

Seb's face darkened as he grabbed her shoulders, gritting his teeth."Who do you think you are? Do you think I want to look back?"

"If you don’t, then why do you keep bothering me?" Susan shot back.

Seb was momentarily speechless.

Susan’s cold smile angered him more. He lowered his head and abruptly kissed her.

"Let go..." Susan struggled, pounding his back with her fists, but it was no use.
