Chapter 1341 Fear of Chaos in the World
Under the dim wall lamp, Thaddeus quickly quieted down and closed his eyes.
At that moment, Cecilia finally relaxed, though silent tears streamed down her cheeks.
It was a long time before Cecilia felt the burning sensation on her lips.
After Thaddeus fell asleep, Cecilia put him down and walked to the mirror. Sure enough, she saw that the skin on her lips was broken and there were traces of blood.
Cecilia frowned at her reflection, then hugged herself. She felt more helpless than ever before, even more so than when she was alone with Thaddeus in that western city.
She had no idea what tomorrow would bring, and everything was out of her control. Now that she had Thaddeus, she couldn't lose him.
The next morning, Freya came to help take care of Thaddeus.
"Mrs. Fields, what happened to your lips?" Freya noticed Cecilia's lips right away.
Hearing this, Cecilia quickly touched her lips and said dismissively, "Maybe they're just a bit chapped."
"How about I get you some ointment from downstairs?" Freya suggested.
"No need, I'll get it myself." Cecilia turned and left the room.
As she descended the stairs, she heard voices from below.
"Mr. Daryl Fields, what happened to your lips?" It was Finn.
Hearing this, Cecilia stopped in her tracks and glanced silently at the living room below.
Daryl, like her, touched his lips and replied dismissively, "Maybe they're just a bit chapped."
"I'll get you some ointment," Finn offered quickly.
"No need, I'm in a hurry. I have to go." With that, Daryl walked out of the living room.
Standing on the stairs, Cecilia couldn't help but think: Last night, she should have bitten his lip off!
From that day on, Cecilia made a point of avoiding Daryl. If she heard him come home, she would immediately go upstairs. If he was eating at home, she would make excuses not to join, claiming she wasn't hungry or didn't feel well. Thaddeus had Azalea, Elijah, and Freya to take care of him.
For ten days, Cecilia successfully avoided Daryl. Though they lived under the same roof, they didn't see each other once.
It seemed Daryl wasn't home often lately, which was fine by her. The less he was around, the better.
However, Azalea remained firm in not letting Cecilia leave with Thaddeus. But Cecilia was equally determined; she had to take Thaddeus with her.
So, they were at an impasse, neither willing to give in. Cecilia had no choice but to stay with Thaddeus for now, taking things one day at a time.
One morning, a guest arrived at the Fields Mansion.
"Ms. Tate, it's been so long since you last visited! Mrs. Azalea Fields has mentioned you several times," a young maid said, leading Skylar along the cobblestone path.
"I've been busy lately," Skylar replied politely. Seeing no one around, she quickly asked in a low voice, "Is that woman still living here?"
"Yeah, she wants to leave with Thaddeus, but Mrs. Azalea Fields won't allow it. Thaddeus is Mrs. Azalea Fields' treasure now. She rarely goes out and spends all her time with him," the maid whispered back.
Skylar frowned at this news.
Skylar then entered the Fields Mansion.
"Mrs. Azalea Fields, Ms. Tate is here," the maid announced.
Azalea, who was playing with Thaddeus on the sofa, looked up and smiled warmly. "Skylar, it's been so long! I've missed you!"
Skylar walked over to a sofa near Azalea and sat down, smiling. "Godmother, I've missed you too. I've just been busy lately and couldn't visit."
"Who's this?" Skylar's eyes fell on Thaddeus, who was babbling on the sofa.
Azalea paused before saying, "My grandson. Isn't he chubby? Isn't he adorable?"
"Adorable," Skylar nodded.
Just then, Cecilia, who had gone upstairs to get a bottle for Thaddeus, came down and saw Skylar on the sofa. She frowned.
Cecilia wanted to avoid her and turned to go back upstairs, not wanting to see Skylar.
"Cecilia? Is that you?" But Skylar had already seen her.
Hearing the voice behind her, Cecilia knew she couldn't avoid it. She turned back and walked over, smiling. "Ms. Tate, hello."
Skylar glanced at Cecilia, then at Thaddeus on the sofa. "Cecilia, is this child yours?"
"Yes, he's mine," Cecilia said, lifting her chin.
She didn't know what Skylar was thinking, but Thaddeus was indeed her child, and she wouldn't deny it.
Skylar was taken aback, then said, "I didn't expect you to have a child after being away for over a year. No wonder Daryl won't divorce you."
Cecilia detected the sarcasm in Skylar's tone. She bent down and picked up Thaddeus from the sofa. "Miss Tate, don't worry. Daryl and I will divorce sooner or later. The position of Mrs. Fields will be yours, just be patient."
"You—" Skylar didn't expect Cecilia to drop the pretense in front of Azalea, leaving her at a loss for words.
"I'll take Thaddeus upstairs," Cecilia said to Azalea, then carried Thaddeus upstairs.
After Cecilia left with Thaddeus, Skylar sat down next to Azalea, pouting. "Godmother, did you see her attitude?"
Azalea frowned. "She's using her status as a mother to act superior. Even I can't control her now. Just bear with it."
Skylar said, "Godmother, she left the Fields Mansion for so long and suddenly brought back a child. Just because she says he's a Fields doesn't mean he is."
Skylar's eyes gleamed with a hint of malice.
"This child is definitely a Fields. You didn't see it, but Thaddeus looks just like Daryl and Elijah," Azalea said with a smile.
Skylar frowned. "Godmother, does that mean Daryl won't divorce Cecilia?"
Azalea sighed. "The divorce will happen, it's just a matter of time. But we can't decide Thaddeus' fate yet."
Azalea didn't want the family's dirty laundry aired in public, so she temporarily accepted Thaddeus as Daryl's child.
