Chapter 1156 Miscarriage
Although Cecilia's daily life was quite exhausting, working while pregnant was indeed physically draining. Fortunately, Freya took care of her wholeheartedly, so she didn't have to worry about household chores, and the meals were delicious. Overall, Cecilia was doing quite well.
That evening, a silver SUV pulled over by the roadside.
In the back seat sat a man in a black trench coat.
When a slender figure emerged from a towering office building, the man's eyes lit up.
His gaze was fixed on the slowly moving figure of the woman until she walked past the roadside.
For a couple of seconds, he saw her face clearly. She seemed to have gained a bit of weight with a beige trench coat.
However, seeing her slightly fuller appearance, Daryl's eyes revealed a gentle light.
But he could only admire her up close for a few seconds before she quickly got into a taxi.
It wasn't until the taxi left that Daryl said to Douglas in the front, "Let's go back."
Douglas nodded, then started the engine, and the car drove onto the road.
"Mr. Fields, if you really miss Ms. Thorne, it wouldn't hurt to see her," Douglas said. Daryl often had him drive this conspicuous car to secretly catch a glimpse of Cecilia, and even Douglas was moved by Daryl's infatuation.
Douglas was Daryl's most trusted person, so Daryl had no need to hide anything from him.
So, the next moment, Daryl pinched his brow and said, "No, if I see her now, it will only make the Tate Family and the Fields Family hate her."
Hearing this, Douglas nodded and said, "You are thinking long-term."
"Keep an eye on her safety and have someone watch her closely," Daryl finally instructed.
"Yes," Douglas responded with a nod.
On this weekend morning, Cecilia couldn't sleep, so she went for a walk by the river, with Freya following not far behind.
Now, Cecilia had become a key protection target. Wherever she went, Freya would follow. Even when she went to work, Freya would pick her up and drop her off ignoring Cecilia's objection.
Cecilia knew this was definitely arranged by Daryl. He was concerned about his kid. It seemed that only after she gave birth would he show up.
Looking at the endless river in front of her, Cecilia felt very complicated.
She didn't know what the future would hold; for now, she could only take it one day at a time.
She actually missed Rainey and Quentin a lot, but in her current state, she couldn't go back. If she did, they would surely worry about her condition.
She also looked forward to the birth of her baby. That way, she wouldn't be alone; the baby would accompany her in the future.
Cecilia gently stroked her already protruding belly, smiling slightly, wondering what the baby inside looked like. Was it a boy or a girl?
At this moment, Cecilia suddenly heard a boy's exclamation in her ear. "Watch out."
Upon hearing this, Cecilia turned around, only to see a teenage boy riding a bicycle quickly towards her.
Cecilia was startled and wanted to dodge, but it was too late.
"Ms. Thorne, watch out." Freya, not far away, saw this scene, her eyes widened, and her mouth opened, but she was too far away to help.
The next moment, the boy on the bicycle crashed into Cecilia.
Cecilia exclaimed, falling to the ground along with the bicycle.
"Ms. Thorne!" Seeing Cecilia knocked down, Freya ran over frantically.
Cecilia lay on the ground, feeling a sharp pain in her belly and a heavy sensation in her lower abdomen. She clutched her belly, her eyes filled with fear.
At this moment, the boy who had knocked her down was already scared stiff.
"Ms. Thorne, are you okay?" Freya pushed the boy away forcefully and held Cecilia's shoulders.
"Freya, quick... take me to the hospital," Cecilia said painfully.
"Somebody, help!" Freya shouted in panic.
Outside the operating room, in the cold hallway, Freya sat on a bench, trembling and crying.
Daryl stood outside the operating room, leaning against the wall, his brow furrowed tightly.
Douglas, hearing Freya's sobs, quickly whispered, "Can you stop crying?"
"Okay," Freya said, covering her face with her hands in fear.
"How could you let this happen?" Daryl growled at Douglas.
Douglas lowered his head, not daring to make a sound. "It was a teenage boy who knocked down Ms. Thorne. I didn't expect this to happen."
Daryl knew there was no point in blaming Douglas further, so he frowned and asked, "How was she when she was brought in?"
"According to Freya, she was in severe pain, and there was a lot of bleeding," Douglas said, his lips trembling.
Hearing this, Daryl's eyes dimmed, and the hand supporting him against the wall bore some of his weight.
A lot of bleeding meant the child was likely lost.
"Mr. Fields," Douglas called out, seeing Daryl's despondent look.
At this moment, the door to the operating room opened.
Daryl took a big step forward and grabbed the hand of the masked doctor, urgently asking, "Doctor, how is the patient?"
The doctor removed his mask and replied gravely, "The patient had severe bleeding. We just managed to save her. She is not in immediate danger."
Hearing this, Daryl's brow relaxed a bit, and he asked, "What about the baby in her belly?"
At this moment, Daryl was almost afraid to ask, as he had already anticipated the result.
Sure enough, the doctor regretfully said, "I'm sorry, we did our best, but we couldn't save the baby."
Hearing this, Daryl's hand fell from the doctor's grip, his eyes filled with sorrow.
The doctor then advised, "The patient will be moved to a ward in an hour. Make sure she isn't agitated. If she gets through tonight, the critical period will be over."
"Okay." Daryl nodded.
"Are you her husband? There's one more thing I need to tell you. Given the patient's current condition, it's not suitable to inform her right away. Her uterus was damaged, and her chances of future pregnancies are very low. She might never have kids," The doctor suddenly said.
Hearing this, Daryl felt as if he had been struck by a heavy blow.
However, he quickly regained his composure and said, "Doctor, thank you. I understand."
