Chapter 416 A Gaze That Can Kill
Today Susan was in a funk, but she slapped on a fake smile anyway. Maybe she was trying to show Derek some love or just numb herself out, but she kept chugging wine like it was water. Isabella tried to stop her, but it was a lost cause, and she was totally out of ideas.
After a few rounds, by the time the dinner wrapped up, Susan was pretty hammered. Luckily, Isabella had kept it together and helped Susan into Derek's car.
Susan slumped in the back seat, her face all red, a goofy smile plastered on, and her eyes all glassy.
She had no clue why, but today she just felt like getting wasted, trying to drown her sorrows. Now she felt all floaty; she'd never drunk this much before. So this was what being drunk felt like.
No wonder people loved getting smashed; it felt like floating on clouds, and it made her super sleepy.
"Ms. Brown, Ms. Wilson's totally wasted tonight. Where does she live? Give the driver the address, and we'll get her home," Derek slurred a bit from the front seat.
Thank God Isabella had kept her cool and hadn't drunk much. Otherwise, things could've gotten messy. She quickly gave the driver the address.
Soon, the car pulled up in front of a brightly lit villa.
Isabella helped the drunk Susan out of the car.
As soon as they walked in, Kathy rushed over and, seeing Susan's state, freaked out, "Ms. Wilson, why'd you drink so much? Mr. Anderson's been waiting for you all night."
After handing Susan over to Kathy, Isabella looked up and saw Seb, rocking a white shirt, standing in the foyer, his cold eyes locked on the drunk Susan.
Seeing Seb's pissed-off look, Isabella quickly explained, "Seb, we were having dinner with a client today, and she accidentally drank too much. You take care of her. Someone's waiting for me outside, so I gotta bounce!"
Halfway through her explanation, Isabella noticed Seb's death stare and decided to make a quick exit. After all, Susan was drunk, and he couldn't do anything to her. Plus, Kathy was there to take care of Susan, so she felt better about leaving.
Isabella then turned and bolted out of the villa.
Seb followed Susan out of the villa, noting the car and license plate parked outside.
Seeing Seb come out, Isabella quickly told the driver to scram, worried he'd see they were hanging with Derek again.
Soon, the car vanished into the night.
When Seb got back to the villa, he saw Kathy helping Susan upstairs.
"Don't help me; I can walk by myself!" Susan, eyes closed, kept pushing Kathy away.
But Kathy didn't dare let go; if she did, Susan would probably tumble down the stairs.
"Ms. Wilson, you're drunk," Kathy said, exasperated.
"Who says I'm drunk? I'm not drunk..." Susan kept pushing Kathy away.
Just as Kathy was at her wit's end, a figure stepped forward and took Susan from Kathy's hands, holding her tight.
"Mr. Anderson?" Kathy asked, confused.
"Go clear the table," Seb ordered.
"But Mr. Anderson, you haven't had dinner yet," Kathy frowned.
"I'm not hungry. Go check on Hayden and make sure he hasn't kicked off his blanket," Seb said.
"Got it," Kathy replied and took off.
Suddenly, Susan felt a strong grip on her shoulders, making her squirm. Instinctively, she tried to shove the person away.
Even though she was drunk, Susan seemed to have superhuman strength, and Seb almost lost his balance.
Seb frowned, then scooped her up.
"Let go of me. Where's the wine? Mr. Lopez, let's have another drink!" Susan giggled and slurred.
Hearing this, Seb's face darkened even more, and he carried her upstairs.
"Mr. Lopez, thanks a ton for your help. Getting a bed in the sanatorium was a nightmare. If it weren't for you, my sister wouldn't have gotten in... Come on, let me toast you again... haha..." Susan kept babbling in her drunken state.
Her rambling was driving Seb nuts.
Entering the guest bedroom, Seb, maybe out of frustration, tossed her onto the soft bed.
Susan yelped as she landed.
Hearing her scream, Seb frowned, but seeing her roll over and pass out on the pillow, he finally relaxed a bit.
Watching her hug the pillow and sleep, Seb's frown deepened, and his expression darkened. He then turned to leave.
But just as he reached the door, he paused, thought for a moment, and turned back.
After staring at her sleeping form, he bent down, yanked off her high heels, struggled to take off her business suit, covered her with a blanket, turned off the light, and quietly left the room.
The next morning, Susan was woken up by the chirping birds outside.
Opening her bleary eyes, Susan felt like her head was about to explode.
She rubbed her forehead and struggled to sit up.
Seeing herself in just her underwear under the covers, Susan couldn't remember a thing from the previous night. She had no clue how she got home.
She just felt super tired and her head was pounding. 'So this is what a hangover feels like. It sucks.' She thought to herself and swore she'd never drink that much again.
Seeing that it was already late, Susan dragged her tired body to change clothes, freshen up, and then grabbed her purse and headed downstairs.
As soon as she got downstairs, Kathy walked over with a smile. "Ms. Wilson, you're up?"
Susan was about to ask how she got home last night when she glanced towards the dining room and saw a familiar figure sitting at the head of the table, eating. She decided to keep quiet.
At that moment, Kathy said, "Ms. Wilson, you drank a lot last night. Your stomach must be empty. I made some oatmeal porridge for you. It's ready, so please go eat."
"Thanks," Susan said, feeling a bit embarrassed, and then headed towards the dining room.
When Susan reached the table, Seb was reading the newspaper while eating, completely ignoring her.
She didn't want to greet him either. Looking up, she saw Hayden eating breakfast, while Spring was being fed egg custard by Mary.
"Mommy, did you get drunk last night?" Hayden suddenly asked as soon as she sat down.
"I..." Hayden's question left Susan speechless.
