Chapter 1273 The Evil Mother-in-Law

Seeing Azalea's stern expression, Cecilia lowered her head and mumbled, "Sorry, Mom. I overslept."

Azalea's tone grew sharper. "Daryl was waiting for you to serve him breakfast, and here you are, sleeping in till noon. Are you planning to be late for work too?"

"I won't do it again, Mom," Cecilia replied quickly.

Azalea's eyes were piercing as she stared at Cecilia.

Under Azalea's gaze, Cecilia felt uneasy, like Azalea could see right through her.

Azalea squinted and sneered, "Did you keep Daryl up all night again? Is that why you couldn't get up?"

"What?" Cecilia was stunned.

She glanced around. Although the servants weren't nearby, Finn was standing right there.

Cecilia's face turned red, and she wished she could disappear into a hole in the ground.

"I know you two are newlyweds and all over each other, but you can't be so indulgent. It's not good for a man!" Azalea said sternly.

Cecilia hung her head low, unable to respond.

Azalea sighed, "Alright, go have your breakfast. It's waiting for you. After that, wash Daryl's clothes. The laundry workers are coming to change the curtains today. Keep an eye on them. Those curtains are delicate and expensive, from Starlight City. Make sure they don't ruin them!"

"Got it," Cecilia replied and quickly headed to the dining room.

Sitting at the table, staring at her eggs and milk, Cecilia felt like her privacy had been laid bare for everyone to see.

After washing Daryl's clothes, Cecilia supervised the laundry workers as they changed and washed the curtains.

By lunchtime, Cecilia hoped she could at least relax on the couch and listen to Finn's lessons on tea ceremonies, flower arranging, and etiquette.

But Azalea had other plans. As she walked towards her bedroom, she instructed, "Cecilia, change your clothes and come with me. We're going out."

Cecilia was taken aback. "Mom, where are we going?"

Azalea had already entered her bedroom.

Finn, standing in the living room, explained, "Mrs. Cecilia Fields, Mrs. Azalea Fields wants you to accompany her to the department store. She has some shopping to do."

Shopping? Cecilia was surprised.

Finn urged, "The driver is ready. Don't keep Mrs. Azalea Fields waiting."

"Okay," Cecilia nodded and went upstairs.

Despite her exhaustion, Cecilia didn't dare refuse. She quickly changed and followed Azalea out.

Azalea, despite her age, was a fierce shopper.

They went to the largest department store in Maple Valley, which had nine floors. Azalea shopped from the first to the sixth floor. The seventh to ninth floors were for dining and entertainment, or she would have shopped there too.

Cecilia followed Azalea, lugging all the bags.

After four hours, Cecilia's hands were full, carrying about twenty bags. Her arms felt like they were going to break.

Azalea glanced at the bags Cecilia was holding and said, "That's enough for today. We'll come back another day."

Oh no, more shopping? Cecilia groaned inwardly.

But she didn't dare complain and followed Azalea back home.

By the time they returned to the Fields' house, it was time to prepare dinner, and Cecilia had to supervise the cooks.

After dinner, Cecilia was exhausted.

Thankfully, Daryl had returned, and his presence diverted Azalea's attention, allowing Cecilia to rest.

As usual, by the time Daryl came upstairs, Cecilia was already asleep.

The next morning, Cecilia made sure to wake up on time. She got up with Daryl, helped with breakfast, and saw him off with his briefcase.

Every morning, as they walked to the front door, Daryl would take the briefcase from Cecilia and chat with her for a bit.

Cecilia cherished these moments. In the golden sunlight, he would tease her, making her day start on a happy note.

In the morning, Cecilia's tasks included washing and ironing Daryl's clothes from the previous day and supervising the cleaning of the villa. Near lunchtime, she went to the kitchen.

After lunch, Cecilia felt lazy.

She thought Finn would give her a lesson, but Azalea suddenly said, "Cecilia, prepare the parlor with cards, tea, and snacks. My friends are coming over for a game."

Cecilia was taken aback but quickly nodded. "Yes, Mom."

She went to the parlor, a spacious room with massage chairs and other leisure equipment, prepared especially for Azalea.

Cecilia tidied up and instructed the servants to prepare tea and snacks. She thought, with Azalea busy with her friends, she might get some time to relax and read.

But Azalea walked in, inspected the room, and said, "My friends are on their way. You'll stay here and serve us. Get to know them; their families do business with the Fields. You'll see them often."

Cecilia's hopes were dashed, but she nodded. "Yes, Mom."

Soon, Ivy Price, Lyra Cole, and Wren Kelly, all adorned with jewelry, arrived.

Azalea and her friends settled at the card table.

Cecilia sat beside Azalea, staring blankly at the cards.

She recognized the cards but didn't know the rules or care to learn. She sat there, lost in thought.

"Cecilia!" Azalea suddenly called out after a few rounds.
