Chapter 431 Let's Go Get a Marriage License
"I heard there's this romance flick killing it at the box office. Wanna catch it after dinner?" Seb grinned at Susan.
"A romance movie? Thought you couldn't stand those mushy films?" Susan propped her chin on her hand, eyeing him curiously.
Seb shot her a look and squeezed her hand. "Well, someone here likes 'em, right? I'll make an exception tonight, but next time, you owe me."
Susan chuckled, "Deal. Next time, it's an action movie for sure."
That night, Seb went all out with a candlelit dinner—flowers, wine, and even a violinist serenading them at their table.
The setup was picture-perfect with red wine, roses, steak, and dessert, and soft violin tunes filling the restaurant.
Susan noticed people sneaking glances their way, and she felt a wave of happiness wash over her.
"Like it?" Seb, rocking a crisp white shirt, gazed at Susan from across the table.
Susan leaned in and whispered, "How much did it set you back to get him to play?"
Seb gave her a look. "Tacky!"
"I'm just a tacky gal, not as fancy as you," Susan shot back, rolling her eyes.
The violinist wrapped up his piece, bowed, and left.
As Seb picked up his fork to dig into his steak, Susan grabbed his hand.
He looked up, puzzled, and she grinned mischievously, "Aren't fancy folks supposed to not need to eat, go to the bathroom, or burp and fart?"
Seb pursed his lips, looking at Susan with a mix of love and exasperation. "You, there's one word for you."
"Vulgar?" Susan smirked, resting her chin on her hand.
"But I dig vulgar. Those stuck-up types make me sick." Seb glanced at a few tables nearby.
The women there were all dolled up like they were hitting a gala or walking the red carpet, some even dressed provocatively, with heavy makeup.
Susan, on the other hand, was in a business suit, formal but kinda old-school and out of place in the scene.
"Means you got good taste!" Susan laughed.
"Yep, I've got a keen eye." Seb held her hand.
Susan smiled, feeling that even their playful banter was a kind of happiness. Maybe no matter what they did, as long as they were together, her heart felt full.
After dinner, they hit up the romance movie.
Susan couldn't remember the last time she watched a movie. Sitting in the couple's seat, she leaned against him, their fingers intertwined, soaking in the moment.
That night, it was almost eleven when Susan and Seb tiptoed back home.
Only the wall lamp was on in the living room, casting a dim light.
Susan and Seb made shushing gestures as they walked, not wanting to wake Hayden and Spring who were asleep inside.
"I'll go check on the kids," Susan whispered.
Seb grabbed her hand. "The kids are out cold. Don't wake 'em. Check on 'em tomorrow."
Susan nodded.
Just as they were about to head upstairs, the crystal chandelier in the living room suddenly flicked on!
Susan and Seb whipped around and saw Hayden standing there in his pajamas.
"Hayden, why aren't you asleep?" Susan quickly walked over.
"Mommy, where did you and Daddy go? I waited for you all night, and you didn't come back," Hayden pouted, looking super upset.
Seeing Hayden like this, Susan felt a pang of guilt. She squatted down, held his shoulders, and smiled. "Hayden, Daddy and I had an event tonight. Be a good boy and go to sleep. You have preschool tomorrow."
"Mommy, tomorrow's the weekend. No school," Hayden said.
"Right, I forgot. Tomorrow's Saturday." Susan patted her head, feeling a bit scatterbrained.
"Mommy, you said you'd take me and Spring to KFC tonight. Did you forget?" Hayden asked, looking all pitiful.
Hearing this, Susan felt even guiltier. She had indeed promised that a few days ago but totally spaced that today was Friday.
"Hayden, I'm sorry. I forgot because of work. How about I take you and Spring to the amusement park tomorrow, and we'll have KFC for lunch, okay?" Susan couldn't stand seeing Hayden upset and felt bad for not spending enough time with them lately.
"Mommy, you have to keep your promise this time!" Hayden was happy but still a bit worried.
"I promise," Susan said earnestly.
At that moment, Seb walked over, patted Hayden's head, and said, "I'll go with you tomorrow too."
"Really? That's awesome!" Hayden clapped his hands in excitement.
"But now you need to hit the sack, or you won't wake up in the morning," Seb smiled.
"I'll go to bed right now!" Hayden said, running back to his room and closing the door.
Watching the door close, Susan turned to Seb and said guiltily, "I can't believe I forgot. He waited for me all night. I'm not a good mom!"
Seb comforted her, "Tonight, just be a good wife. Tomorrow, you can be a good mom again."
Hearing this, Susan looked up. "At best, I'm just your ex-wife."
"Let's get a marriage license on Monday?" Seb suddenly took Susan's hand.
Hearing this, Susan was stunned and didn't react.
The next moment, Seb bent down and scooped her up.
Susan felt herself lifted off the ground, her head spinning. She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and exclaimed, "What are you doing?"
Seb didn't answer, just gave her a mischievous smile and carried her upstairs.
Seeing his urgency, Susan blushed and rested her head on his shoulder.
Although she had planned to get a good night's sleep tonight, at this moment, she changed her mind. How could she refuse him?
Seb carried Susan into the master bedroom. She closed her eyes, thinking he would gently place her on the bed and then passionately kiss and embrace her.
But this time, she felt her feet touch the ground first. She opened her eyes in confusion and saw that he had gently placed her in the center of the room.
Standing there, Susan looked up at Seb, who was a head taller than her, with a puzzled expression.
