Chapter 813 He Has Another Woman
When Isabella heard that, she spun around, eyes blazing, and snapped at Leon, "That's still better than you just killing this kid outright!"
Leon shot back, "This kid's gonna grow up in a single-parent home. Kids from single-parent homes are often insecure and timid, and they get picked on. Have you thought about that?"
Isabella scoffed, "All of this is because of you!"
Leon narrowed his eyes and threatened, "What if I force you to have an abortion?"
But Isabella didn't flinch. She looked him dead in the eye and said, "Then it'll be two lives lost!"
Leon was taken aback and stepped back.
Isabella stood her ground, "This child and I are in this together. I cannot live without it."
"How did it come to this?" A tear slipped down Leon's cheek.
Isabella sneered, "What? Your mistress is so possessive that she can't handle you having a child?"
Leon said nothing and turned away, looking defeated.
The study door creaked open, and Susan saw Leon walk out, looking utterly crushed. She frowned.
Susan had never seen Leon like this before. His look of complete hopelessness puzzled her.
After Leon left, Susan walked into the study and found Isabella crying in a chair.
"Didn't go well?" Susan asked gently.
Isabella turned and hugged Susan, sobbing uncontrollably.
"What did you two talk about?" Susan asked, patting Isabella's back.
After a while, Isabella wiped her tears and said firmly, "He's got another woman now, a rich heiress. It's over between us. I'm gonna have this child on my own and raise it."
Susan was shocked, "Leon has fallen for someone else?"
But thinking about it, it made sense. If he didn't have someone else, how could a man abandon his own child?
"Susan, do you think I'm really stupid? I've been with him for so long, and he never mentioned marriage. I should've known he never intended to marry me. But I foolishly waited, hoping he would. And this is what I get." Isabella choked up and couldn't continue.
Seeing Isabella's pain, Susan felt deeply for her.
Patting her shoulder, Susan tried to comfort her, "Don't cry. It's not good for the baby. The baby will need you. You have to take care of yourself, okay?"
Isabella nodded, wiped her tears, and said, "I won't cry again. I'll be a strong mom."
"Yes." Susan nodded in agreement.
From that day on, Isabella didn't cry anymore. She didn't complain about her fate, but she became much quieter, never joking around. She read parenting books every day, prepared for the birth, and planned for the future.
Susan saw a strong Isabella, but also an Isabella without laughter. It broke her heart, but she couldn't change the situation.
For several days, Susan didn't see Leon around the villa and figured he had gone back to the country.
One day, while on her way to pick up Hayden from school, Susan spotted Leon waiting along her usual route.
Leon waved, and the car pulled over.
Leon and the driver knew each other well, as the driver was aware Leon was Seb's assistant.
Seeing Leon's tired face through the window, Susan frowned.
Ever since Isabella told her about Leon's new woman, Susan had no good feelings toward him.
The driver got out and exchanged a few words with Leon.
Then, the driver opened the back door and said to Susan, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Johnson wants to have a word with you."
Susan hesitated.
"Mr. Johnson said he's leaving Northstar City for Maple Valley this afternoon," the driver added, noting her reluctance.
Curiosity got the better of her, and Susan stepped out of the car.
Standing in front of Leon, she noticed he looked awful. Was it possible he loved Isabella but had to leave her for money and status?
Leon spoke first, "I know you're Isabella's best friend and the person she trusts the most. Please take good care of her."
Susan felt a wave of disgust. "Leon, Isabella said you two are done, so she has nothing to do with you now. Mind your own business."
Leon looked awkward. "I owe Isabella. You can say whatever you want about me, even hit me. But I have one request. Please help me with this."
Despite her dislike for him, Susan asked, "What is it?"
Leon quickly replied, "I bought some supplements for pregnant women. They'll be delivered to your home later. Please say you bought them."
Susan frowned and stared at Leon.
Leon added, "I'm afraid if Isabella knows I bought them, she'll throw them away."
Susan saw the genuine concern in Leon's eyes, a concern that couldn't be faked.
She couldn't help but ask, "Leon, I don't get it. Your feelings for Isabella seem real. You still care about her. Why did you leave her and the child?"
Leon lowered his head and said nothing.
Susan pressed, "Is it because you want to achieve great success, so you left Isabella for another woman?"
"Everyone has their own choices," Leon said with difficulty.
Susan knew it wouldn't help, but she had to say something. "Andrew is the best example. He and I were very much in love back then. He made the wrong choices and ended up where he is today. He was poor and desperate, but you're different. With your current status, you may not be extremely wealthy, but you're still successful. Are you really giving up the person you love and your child just to add to your success?"
Leon looked pained. He was silent for a long time before he said with difficulty, "I have a flight to catch. Goodbye!"
