Chapter 1163 Politely Declining

Since her miscarriage, Cecilia has consistently refused to see Barry. Even after returning to work, Barry expressed his concern for her, but she continued to avoid being alone with him.

She didn't want to talk about feelings or use Barry as a remedy for her pain, so she kept her distance.

However, today Barry had pushed the conversation to a point where Cecilia had no choice but to agree.

"Alright, I'll choose the place, and you pay," Cecilia said with a smile.

In fact, Cecilia was very grateful for Barry's concern, and she knew that Seraphine's care for her was also because of Barry.

"Sure," Barry said, overjoyed that Cecilia had agreed.

Cecilia then happily got into Barry's car.

As the car in front slowly merged onto the road, Daryl, sitting in the back seat of a silver SUV, had a dark expression on his face.

Douglas, who was driving, saw this and wanted to slap himself, regretting what he just said.

"Mr. Fields," Douglas called out.

"Follow them!" Daryl instructed.

"Yes, Mr. Fields." The next moment, Douglas started the engine and quickly drove onto the road.

Half an hour later, Cecilia and Barry were seated in a bright and clean restaurant.

Cecilia ordered the food, Barry poured her some juice, and they started chatting.

Daryl, unnoticed by them, sat in a corner where he could see them but they couldn't see him.

Soon, a waiter in uniform approached Daryl's table and said with a smile, "Sir, here's the menu."

Daryl's eyes were fixed on Cecilia and Barry; without interest in ordering food.

So, he pointed in their direction and said, "I'll have what they're having."

The waiter glanced in the direction Daryl pointed and said, "Sir, that table is for two people. You might not be able to finish it all by yourself."

"I can take it to go," Daryl said, staring at the waiter.

Hearing this, the waiter quickly nodded. "Alright, please wait a moment."

Soon, the dishes were served one by one. Cecilia and Barry enjoyed their meal, but for Daryl, every bite tasted like sawdust.

Barry looked at Cecilia, who frowned and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is something wrong with me?"

Cecilia touched her face, and Barry smiled. "No, I just feel like the you I first met is back. It's great!"

Hearing this, Cecilia's smile slowly faded, and she pursed her lips.

Over the past six months, she had been trying to adjust her emotions and forget Daryl. She worked hard and lived her life.

Despite the pain of the past six months, she had found a new beginning. She had a stable job at Vogue Vista, was getting to know the city, and her monthly salary was enough to support herself with some savings. Everything was moving in a positive direction.

"After everything I've been through, I think I've matured a bit," Cecilia said.

"Of course, we all grow." Barry nodded.

Sensing Barry's focused gaze, Cecilia lowered her head and frowned, suddenly losing her appetite.

She knew Barry had deep feelings for her. He had helped clear her name when she was wronged, and his mother, Seraphine, had been very kind to her, especially when others didn't believe her. Cecilia was touched and felt indebted to Barry.

But she couldn't repay that debt with feelings, so she kept avoiding Barry to make him understand her intentions. However, Barry didn't seem to give up and continued to care for and support her.

Cecilia didn't want to play any emotional games with Barry. She hoped he wouldn't waste his time on her and would find a girl who suited him. That was true friendship.

"Why aren't you talking or eating? The food is delicious," Barry asked, frowning as he looked at Cecilia.

The next moment, Cecilia looked up at Barry and said, "Barry, we're good friends, right?"

"Of course." Barry nodded.

Cecilia continued, "Since we're good friends, what I'm about to say might be a bit direct. I hope you don't mind."

"Go ahead, no matter what you say, I won't mind." Barry promised.

Cecilia then said, "Barry, since we met, you've helped me a lot, and I'm very grateful. I also know how you feel about me, but I won't be getting into any relationships for a while. I hope you understand."

Hearing this, Barry smiled lightly. "I know you've been hurt and need time to heal. I just want to care for you, nothing more. Please believe me."

Cecilia nodded. "I do believe you, but I don't want you to waste your time. Life is short, and youth is even shorter. You deserve a better girl!"

Barry seriously replied, "Cecilia, I know what kind of girl is right for me. You don't need to remind me. You don't have to avoid me anymore. I won't express any romantic feelings for you. I just want to be your good friend. Whatever happens in the future is up to you. I won't cause you any trouble, okay?"

"Barry..." Cecilia, being smart, could hear the underlying meaning in Barry's words. He still had hopes for her, but his words were heartbreaking.

"Cecilia, can't we at least be friends?" Barry interrupted her.

At this moment, Cecilia had no way to refuse.

She trusted Barry's character. If he said he wouldn't cause her any trouble, he would keep his word.

Finally, Cecilia smiled and said, "Alright, I'll consider you my best friend from now on."

Hearing this, Barry smiled knowingly. "Sure."

Then, Barry made a flamboyant gesture, making Cecilia cover her mouth and laugh, and Barry laughed heartily as well.
