Chapter 1180 I'm Not Interested in You Right Now

Cecilia shot back at Daryl, "Daryl, watch your words. Just because you helped me doesn't mean you can joke around with me. If you say something inappropriate again, I'll leave right now!"

Seeing that she was angry, Daryl quickly put down the menu and reassured her, "Okay, I won't joke around with you anymore, I promise."

Cecilia glanced at Daryl but said nothing more.

Soon, Daryl finished ordering the food without even consulting Cecilia and handed the menu to the waiter.

"Sir, please hold on a moment." As the waiter took the menu and was about to leave, Cecilia suddenly spoke up, "Please bring me the most expensive bottle of wine you have here."

Both Daryl and the waiter were taken aback by her request.

Cecilia had already glanced at the prices here; it was a moderately priced place, mostly frequented by working-class people. The most expensive wine wouldn't be too pricey. Since she wanted to thank Daryl today, she thought it would be a sincere gesture, making her feel less indebted to him.

"Miss, please wait a moment," the waiter said before turning to leave.

After the waiter left, Daryl looked at Cecilia and said, "Why so generous today?"

Cecilia poured a cup of water for both of them. "Because I sincerely want to thank you for your help. Since you don't want me to spend too much on food, I'll just get you a bottle of wine. Of course, the wine here is probably the worst you've ever had, so bear with me. After all, I'm just an ordinary person, not from your world of wealth and privilege."

Daryl frowned at Cecilia's words.

Although Cecilia's words were tinged with sarcasm, she said them on purpose. Her meaning was clear: she wanted to tell Daryl that they came from the same world and would never be together, so it was better to have no further interactions.

Daryl replied, "You and I may not be from the same world, but throughout history, many people from different worlds have ended up together."

Cecilia retorted, "But their stories always end in tragedy. People from different worlds are not meant to be together. No matter how hard they try, they can't escape a tragic fate."

Daryl frowned deeply and stared at her. "Cecilia, why are you being so pessimistic now? You used to be full of hope for the future. Do you know what I admire most about you? It's your resilience, like a bamboo that stands tall no matter the environment, always positive and hopeful."

Cecilia couldn't help but smile bitterly. "Daryl, I'm still optimistic and resilient about everything else, but when it comes to you, I've given up."

"You..." Daryl's frown deepened.

At this moment, the waiter brought two dishes and placed an opened bottle of wine on the table.

"Sir, Miss, here's your wine," the waiter said before leaving.

Cecilia reached for the wine, and poured a glass for Daryl, then one for herself. She raised her glass and smiled, "Daryl, thank you for helping me this time. You saved me from getting blamed by the whole team. I'm really grateful. Cheers!"

With that, she tilted her head back and drank half a glass of wine in one go.

Seeing this, Daryl frowned even more.

Cecilia coughed a couple of times from drinking too quickly. When she reached for the bottle again, Daryl quickly grabbed it. "You can't drink so quickly!"

Cecilia looked up at Daryl's concerned eyes and said, "You're right. My health is my own responsibility. Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself from now on. Let's eat!"

She picked up her knife and fork and started eating.

Later, she still wanted to drink, and Daryl couldn't stop her. But she only took small sips. The more she drank like this, the more uncomfortable Daryl felt, his eyes filled with worry.

Cecilia wasn't a heavy drinker, but she didn't get too drunk. Daryl didn't enjoy the meal, frowning the whole time, while Cecilia seemed carefree, chatting and laughing as if nothing was on her mind.

As night fell, a black car stopped in front of Cecilia's apartment building.

Cecilia got out first and waved to Daryl, who followed her out. "I'm home. No need to walk me up. Bye!"

With that, she turned and walked away, a bit unsteady.

Seeing Cecilia's unsteady steps, Daryl felt worried.

Daryl stepped forward to catch up with her.

"Slow down," Daryl said, holding the unsteady Cecilia.

Cecilia looked up and saw it was Daryl. She tried to shake him off.

But Daryl held onto her arm firmly.

"Mr. Fields, let go of me!" Cecilia said with a dark expression.

"Don't worry, I have no intentions towards you. I just want to make sure you get home safely. If something happens to you, the police will question me," Daryl said, pulling Cecilia towards the building.

In the elevator, Cecilia felt a bit dizzy from the wine's buzz.

She looked at Daryl and instinctively stepped back a couple of paces to create some distance.

Seeing Cecilia treat him like a malicious person, Daryl's face darkened.

"You don't need to be so wary. I already told you, I'm not interested in you right now!" With that, Daryl turned his face away.
