Chapter 725 Regret
At this moment, Susan looked down, her eyes wide open as she stared at the photos, trying hard to recall the scene of meeting Andrew.
A moment later, Susan suddenly scattered the photos on the ground, grabbed Seb's hand, and urgently explained, "Seb, I remember now. Andrew threatened me, saying that if I agreed to marry him and move to Averlake, he would leave you alone. Of course, I refused. Then I drank some water, and… and that's all I remember. He drugged me, Seb! He must have!"
Seb stared at Susan for two seconds, then suddenly grabbed her wrist and said viciously, "Susan, are you still lying to me at this point? My bodyguard saw you meet Andrew at the café with his own eyes. Andrew didn't force you at all; you just threw yourself into his arms!"
"Then how did I end up here?" Susan asked in astonishment.
How did she get to the hotel? Susan racked her brain but couldn't remember a thing.
"You got into Andrew's car. My bodyguards followed you to this hotel. They didn't dare to act rashly, so they called me. When I got here, Andrew called me, saying you were trying to seduce him in the hotel and that I should come and get you!" Seb's veins bulged on his forehead as he spoke.
"He's lying! He definitely drugged my water!" Susan shook her head desperately.
She saw Seb's face darken, and the bulging veins on his forehead told her he was genuinely angry.
Susan hadn't expected Andrew to be so despicable. On one hand, he attempted to entice her; if she succumbed, he would accuse her of seducing him. If she resisted, he planned to spike her drink, and once she was unconscious, he could still claim she had seduced him."
Seb flung Susan's hand away, causing her to stumble back and sit on the bed.
"Don't play the victim," he spat, his voice dripping with disgust. "If you hadn't gone to meet him in the first place, none of this would have happened."
"I..." Susan was at a loss for words, not knowing how to defend herself.
"Thank goodness I divorced you back then, or you would have cheated again!" Seb said bitterly, then turned and left the room.
The door slammed loudly, and Seb disappeared.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Susan clenched her fists, her heart filled with hatred for Andrew.
Andrew was truly despicable, coming up with such a scheme. But she also blamed herself. Why did she agree to meet him? Why hadn't she seen through his facade?
That night, Susan didn't know how she got home.
She tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep.
The next morning, Susan went to wait for Seb in front of the Prosperity Group building.
From last night until now, she didn't know how many calls she had made, but Seb wouldn't answer. Even when she called Leon, he didn't pick up either.
Susan knew Seb was really angry, so he must have instructed Leon not to answer her calls.
On the cold winter morning, the wind felt like knives on her face. Despite wearing a cashmere coat, Susan still huddled her body, standing in the draft, her hair already blown into disarray.
Just as Susan felt she was about to freeze, a black stretch Mercedes suddenly drove into the parking lot.
Seeing the car, Susan's face lit up with joy. She was afraid he wouldn't come to work today.
Sitting in the back seat, Seb saw Susan shivering in the cold through the car window and frowned.
Leon, in the driver's seat, saw Seb's furrowed brow in the rearview mirror and said, "Mr. Anderson, Ms. Wilson seems to have been waiting for you for a long time."
Seb replied with a grim face, "I'm not blind."
Leon had already parked the car and didn't dare say more.
Susan ran up to the car. By then, Seb had already opened the door and stepped out, not even glancing at her.
Susan reached out to grab Seb's hand, but her hand froze in mid-air, her fingers already red from the cold.
"Seb, you're really wrong about me. Give me a few minutes to explain, please?" Susan's nose tingled as she spoke, not knowing if it was from the grievance or the biting cold.
Seb's eyes swept over Susan's red nose, and he sneered, "I advise you not to waste your effort. I won't believe a word you say!"
With that, Seb turned to leave.
Seeing him walk away, Susan couldn't bear to let the misunderstanding continue. Being misunderstood was a terrible feeling, and she knew Seb was already overwhelmed. She didn't want to be a burden to him now.
In a moment of desperation, Susan grabbed Seb's arm and said emotionally, "Why are you always so self-righteous? Why won't you listen to me for once?"
Hearing this, Seb became even angrier. Pointing at Susan, he said, "If I were always self-righteous, I would never have been fooled by you. Susan, if you have any self-respect left, don't show up in front of me again. Don't make me despise you even more!"
Seb's words hit Susan like a hammer to the heart. She took two steps back, looking at him in disbelief, and stammered, "How can you say that about me?"
"What else do you want me to say? I have ten times worse things to say about you, but I can't be bothered because I don't want to waste my time and feelings on you. You're not worth it!" With that, Seb turned and left with a grim face.
Leon, seeing this, gave Susan a sympathetic look and quickly followed Seb.
Watching Seb walk away, Susan felt as if a heavy stone was pressing on her heart, making it hard to breathe.
How did it come to this? How did things suddenly turn out this way? Susan angrily grabbed her hair. Why did she agree to meet Andrew? Why didn't she learn her lesson? Now she had put herself in an irredeemable situation.
Tears streamed down Susan's face. When she looked up, her tear-filled eyes suddenly saw a figure standing in front of her, though she hadn't noticed when they had arrived.
