Chapter 427 Domineering
A little boy in a white shirt and black uniform strolled up to the preschool entrance, backpack slung over his shoulder.
"Hayden!" Susan and Seb hollered, waving like crazy.
Hayden's big ol' eyes lit up like Christmas lights when he spotted them, and he bolted over.
"Daddy, Mommy, what are you guys doing here?" Hayden grabbed Seb's hand with one of his and Susan's with the other, grinning ear to ear.
"Well, kiddo, both of us had some free time today, so we thought we'd surprise you. Happy?" Seb asked, looking down at him.
"Totally! I wish you guys could pick me up every day," Hayden blurted out.
Seb and Susan exchanged a quick look, then Seb ruffled Hayden's hair. "Man, you're a little greedy, huh? We'll pick you up whenever we can, deal?"
"Deal!" Hayden nodded, all serious.
Then Seb had an idea. "Hey, Hayden, how about we take you and your sister out for a big feast today?"
"Yes! I want steak and ice cream!" Hayden cheered, clapping his hands.
"Alright, steak and ice cream it is," Seb agreed.
Hayden was over the moon, practically bouncing. Susan, seeing him so pumped, couldn't help but smile too.
Later, Leon drove them to pick up Spring, and the whole crew ended up at this fancy Western restaurant.
Spring was perched on Susan's lap, munching on steak bite by bite. Her little face was a mess, and Susan kept wiping her mouth, but Spring was too into her food to care.
Across the table, Seb and Hayden were chowing down like there was no tomorrow. Seb, who usually ate like he was at a royal banquet, was now scarfing down his food like a kid.
Suddenly, Susan remembered something. She glanced at Seb, looking like she had something on her mind.
"What's up? Spit it out," Seb said, noticing her hesitation.
Susan quickly blurted out, "Seb, can you cut Derek some slack? Running a company isn't easy, and he's got a family to take care of. His small business can't handle your drama!"
Seb stared at her for a moment, making her squirm. Then she pouted, "Why are you looking at me like that? Seriously, if I were to find someone else, it would be a young hottie, not some old dude!"
Seb finally cracked a smile.
"What's so funny?" Susan frowned, seeing him grin.
Seb stopped smiling and said, "Now that's the Susan I know. You were totally faking it earlier."
Busted, Susan felt a bit embarrassed.
Honestly, she thought Derek was getting a raw deal. Because of her spat with Seb, Derek was caught in the crossfire. Derek had helped her out before, and she couldn't just watch his company go under.
But she also knew Seb had a serious beef with Derek. Being tough wasn't gonna work, so she tried to play it soft. Didn't expect Seb to see right through her, though.
"How was I fake?" Susan pouted, crossing her arms.
Seb's face turned serious. "Listen up, from now on, I don't care if it's an old man, middle-aged man, or some young man—you can't be alone with any of them!"
"You're being ridiculous! I need to make male friends for my business," Susan grumbled, but she knew better than to push him right now.
Seb, still jealous, shot back, "Fine, talk business at the office, but no dinner parties!"
Susan felt her temper rising but kept it in check, thinking about Derek's situation. She tried to stay calm. "Can you be reasonable? Networking is part of business. If I can't go to dinner parties, I might as well shut down my company."
"If there's a dinner party, I'll go with you!" Seb declared, leaving no room for argument.
Susan knew fighting him now was pointless. She decided to play along to get Derek's issue sorted first.
"Alright, I'll listen to you. So, can you fix Derek's problem now?" she asked, trying to sound agreeable.
Seb nodded. "Fine, I won't mess with him this time."
Susan quickly handed him his phone with a sweet smile. "Then please, make the call."
Seb stared at her for a moment, then reluctantly took the phone and dialed. "Leon, drop the issue with Derek. Tell those businesses to back off, and if they can, give him a hand." He hung up and handed the phone back to Susan. "Happy now?"
Susan grinned. "That's more like it."
She felt a wave of relief. If Derek came crying to her at work tomorrow, she wouldn't know what to do.
Just then, Hayden piped up, "Mommy, your new ring is so pretty!"
Susan glanced at the sapphire ring on her finger and smiled. "Your Daddy bought it for me."
Seb and Susan exchanged a look, their eyes full of love.
"When I grow up, I'll buy an even bigger gemstone ring for my children's mommy," Hayden announced.
Susan couldn't help but laugh. "Oh really?"
Seb ruffled Hayden's hair, chuckling. "You already know how to spoil the ladies, huh?"
"Daddy spends money on Mommy, right? Boys should spend money on girls. Otherwise, what's the point of making money?" Hayden said, all serious.
Susan found it funny but kept a straight face. "Hayden, you need to learn how to make money first before you can spend it on girls, okay? And money isn't everything. Just because you spend money on a girl doesn't mean she'll like you, got it?"
"But don't all girls like pretty clothes, shoes, and bags?" Hayden asked, looking genuinely confused.
Susan sighed, shaking her head. "It's not that simple, kiddo."
