Chapter 259 I Won't Let Anyone Hurt You
Seb's sudden touch made Susan instinctively pull away. She slapped his hand and snapped, "Seb, don't touch me!"
Seb had hurt her too much. Even though she knew he had his reasons, she still couldn't stand him.
"Fine, I won't," Seb said, pulling his hands back.
"Don't think you can use Hayden to manipulate me. I won't be bullied by you," Susan yelled.
Seb looked hurt, stepping back with pain in his eyes. "Do you really think I'd use my own son like that?"
"Yes," Susan replied firmly.
Seb staggered, then turned away, disappointed. "If that's how you feel, then go."
Watching him walk away, Susan felt a pang of sadness but couldn't bring herself to trust him. She turned, opened the door, and left.
Susan wandered out of the neighborhood, walking until her legs felt numb. She found a bench and sat down, clutching her purse, her mind racing with thoughts of Seb and Hayden.
Was Hayden really her son? Was Seb telling the truth? Her heart was in knots. If Hayden was her son, she had to acknowledge him. Thinking about his suffering, she felt immense guilt.
She didn't know how she got home, but it was already afternoon when she arrived.
"Where have you been?" a man's voice suddenly asked.
Susan looked up to see George on the sofa.
"Why are you home?" she asked, frowning.
"Where did you go?" George repeated, his brow furrowed.
"Where's Spring?" Susan asked, looking around for Serenity and Spring.
"Answer my question!" George's voice rose, filled with authority.
Susan was unsure whether to tell George about her day. Her mind was preoccupied with Hayden.
"Is it that hard to answer?" George's face was stern.
George rarely showed anger towards Susan. His unusual expression made her heart skip a beat. Did he know where she'd been?
She remembered telling George she had plans with Isabella. Maybe he saw through her lie?
There was nothing between her and Seb, and even if Hayden was her son, she had nothing to hide.
With that in mind, she approached and uttered, "I went to Seb's house."
George hesitated, then sneered, "You are still not over him, are you? I was a fool."
He stood up abruptly and walked out of the room.
Seeing George's misunderstanding, Susan quickly grabbed his arm. "George, you've got it wrong!"
"I wish it were just a misunderstanding," George said bitterly, stopping in his tracks.
Realizing words alone wouldn't clear things up, Susan took off her purse, unzipped it, and pulled out a knife.
George's eyes widened at the sight of the knife. "What's this?"
"Seb told me Hayden is the son I gave birth to years ago. I didn't believe him, but I was scared he might be telling the truth. So, I went to his house to find out. But I was worried he might try something. I took this knife for self-defense. If he tried anything, I would've used it," Susan explained, her voice shaky.
George looked deeply into her eyes, then gently touched her cheek and took the knife, placing it on the table.
Susan found refuge in George's comforting embrace, relying on his strength in the midst of her confusion over the situation with Hayden. Was her son really alive? She had mourned him for so long. Now, she didn't know what to believe or what to do next.
George held her tightly, his chin resting on her head. "Don't worry, I won't let anyone hurt you. I'll fight anyone who tries."
His words gave Susan comfort and strength. She couldn't imagine facing this without him.
She pulled back slightly, frowning. "George, do you think Seb is telling the truth? Is Hayden really my son? Or is he just trying to mess with us?"
"As long as we're solid, it doesn't matter what he does," George said, looking into her eyes.
"But what if he's telling the truth? If Hayden is my son, I can't ignore him. He's been through so much, fighting illness for years. If I'm his mother, I have to be there for him," Susan said, her voice trembling.
"Whatever you decide, I'll support you," George assured her.
Susan felt a wave of relief and comfort. "George, I want to do a DNA test with Hayden. If he's my son, I'll take responsibility. If not, Seb can't use this against me anymore."
George nodded. "I support your decision."
Susan smiled, touched his cheek, and said sincerely, "Thank you, George."
"No need to thank me," George said, lowering his head to kiss her forehead.
