Chapter 478 Provocation
Susan shot Seb a death glare.
Seb just grinned. "We tied, so let's call it quits for today!"
Susan huffed and turned to leave.
Seb stepped up, slinging an arm around her shoulder, looking off into the distance. "Hey, tomorrow's Saturday. How about we take Hayden and Spring to the amusement park?"
Susan's face lit up like a Christmas tree. She wrapped her arm around Seb's waist, eyes sparkling. "Absolutely!"
Seb glanced at her, putting on a serious face. "Make me happy, and I'll make it happen."
Susan immediately latched onto Seb's arm, grinning like a Cheshire cat. "Alright, I'll start buttering you up now. Mr. Anderson, you're not just tall and handsome, you're also super capable, smart, ambitious, and oh-so-charming..."
She threw out every compliment she could think of.
"Okay, okay, if you keep going, I'm gonna pass out." Seb cut her off, feeling a headache coming on.
"Is that enough?" Susan asked with a cheeky grin.
Seb leaned in and whispered in her ear, "I prefer it when you please me in bed."
"Get lost!" Susan slapped his chest instinctively.
Seb laughed heartily at her shy reaction.
Saturday morning rolled around, and Seb picked up Susan with Hayden and Spring in tow.
The four of them hit the amusement park and grabbed lunch at a kids' restaurant. Hayden and Spring were over the moon. Susan finally got to see the kids again, and even though it had only been a few days, she felt like she never wanted to let them go.
Spring, being the little one, dozed off in Susan's arms after lunch.
"How about we let Leon take her back?" Seb suggested softly, stroking Spring's head.
Susan looked down at the sleeping Spring, feeling a pang of reluctance. She shook her head. "Let me hold her a bit longer."
Seeing how attached Susan was, Seb said, "Alright, five more minutes. Holding her like this is tiring for both of you."
Susan nodded, realizing he had a point, and reluctantly handed Spring over to Leon to take her home.
Watching Leon walk away, Susan felt a bit down. Seb squeezed her hand and promised, "I'll bring her out again in a couple of days for you."
"Okay." Susan felt a bit better hearing that.
"Daddy, Mommy, where are we going next?" Hayden asked, wiping his mouth with a napkin.
Susan turned to Hayden with a smile. "How about we go visit your grandpa at the hospital?"
"Sure, I miss Grandpa. I don't miss Grandma at all, though. I don't wanna see her." Hayden said, blinking his big eyes.
Susan and Seb exchanged a look.
Susan gently corrected him, "Hayden, it's not nice to talk like that. You shouldn't say things like that, especially in front of Grandpa and Grandma."
"Alright." Hayden nodded, though he didn't fully get it.
Susan hugged Hayden, thinking, 'He gets what's going on at home; he just can't put it into words.'
In the afternoon, Seb and Susan took Hayden to the hospital.
Todd lit up when he saw Hayden, grabbing his little hand and peppering him with questions. Hayden found Todd super nice and answered seriously, often with innocent and funny responses that had Todd laughing his head off.
Seeing Todd so happy made Seb and Susan feel pretty good too.
Catherine was peeling an apple, and Susan walked over to help out.
"Mom, Dad looks like he's put on some weight these past few days. It's all thanks to you," Susan said gratefully.
Catherine was worn out all because Susan, but she couldn't do much to help, feeling pretty guilty.
"As long as I can take good care of him, I'm happy," Catherine said with a smile.
"Mom, it's been tough on you. You've lost weight these past few days," Susan said, touching the few gray hairs at Catherine's temples with concern.
"It's only been a few days, how could I have lost weight?" Catherine said with a smile.
Just then, the door to the ward swung open!
Susan turned around and saw Carol walk in, followed by Kathy carrying a thermos.
"Mom, you're here?" Susan was surprised and greeted her.
Carol glanced at Susan and Catherine but didn't respond. She walked straight to the bedside and sat down.
"Mom, why are you here?" Seb greeted Carol.
Carol seemed a bit miffed. "Isn't it right for me to come see your dad? Why are you asking such a question?"
Seb just nodded.
Kathy quickly raised the thermos. "Mr. Todd Anderson, Mrs. Carol Anderson asked me to make some soup for you."
Carol forced a smile at Todd. "I supervised Kathy making this beef bone soup. It's good for your leg."
She gave Kathy a look, and Kathy quickly served a bowl of steaming soup and brought it to Todd. "Mr. Todd Anderson, please drink it while it's hot."
Todd looked at the soup and touched his stomach. "I just had a big bowl of soup earlier. I really can't drink anymore."
Seeing Carol's face darken, Todd quickly changed his tune. "Kathy, just leave it here. I'll drink it later."
Kathy nodded and set the soup aside.
Carol's gaze fell on Hayden, who was leaning against the bed. She smiled and reached out to touch his hand. "Hayden is here too?"
But Hayden quickly pulled his hand back and looked at Carol with big, hostile eyes before running to hide behind Susan.
Seeing Hayden avoid her, Carol immediately got annoyed and shot a look at Susan. "How did you raise Hayden to be so timid? This is not like a child from our family. Our kids are always confident and outgoing."
Susan's face turned sour. What did she mean by that? Was she implying that Hayden wasn't a real Anderson?
Just then, Hayden poked his little face out from behind Susan and shouted angrily, "You old witch, don't bully my mommy!"
