Chapter 1325 Maple Valley
After hearing Skylar's words, Cecilia's eyes turned icy as she stared at her. "Like you said, even if Daryl and I split up tomorrow, we're still married today. This is between us, and outsiders just won't get it. Whether Daryl and I end up hating each other is our business. Skylar, I know you're head over heels for Daryl, but maybe you should wait until he's actually single."
Cecilia glanced at Skylar's hand clutching Daryl's arm, then smirked coldly and turned to leave.
Watching Cecilia walk away, Daryl felt a pang of loss.
Daryl then pulled his arm away from Skylar's grip, his voice turning frosty. "Skylar, thanks for picking me up, but I have things to do. I'll have the driver take you home."
Without waiting for a response, Daryl turned and walked off, his tone brooking no argument.
"Daryl, you were shaken up. I wanted to take you out for dinner to help you relax!" Skylar hurriedly chased after him in her high heels.
Daryl replied, "This little scare is nothing. I'm leaving now."
With that, he left Skylar behind, striding forward.
Skylar stood there, stunned, stomping her foot in frustration.
That evening, Daryl stepped into the living room of the Fields family home.
"Daryl, you're back?" Azalea, who was watching TV on the couch, quickly stood up with a welcoming smile.
For the past year and a half, Daryl rarely came home, maybe once a month at most. Especially after Isaac's death, he avoided coming back because this house suffocated him. He didn't want to see Elijah or face his mother, as Azalea's most frequent words over the past year and a half were urging him to find Cecilia, divorce her, and marry Skylar.
"Mom, did you tell Skylar where I was?" Daryl's face was cold despite his mother's warm welcome.
Azalea was taken aback but quickly explained, "Daryl, since you've found Cecilia and want to divorce her, being with Skylar is only natural, isn't it?"
Daryl responded, "Mom, divorcing Cecilia doesn't mean I'll accept Skylar."
Azalea tried to persuade him, "Daryl, Skylar has waited for you for years, always devoted to you. Our families are well-matched. Marrying Skylar would make everyone happy!"
Daryl frowned. "Mom, I'm not thinking about marriage right now."
Azalea's brows furrowed. "Daryl, are you planning to change your mind and not divorce Cecilia? Don't forget she even tried to seduce your brother. She's not a good woman. Anyone who marries her will be unlucky for life!"
Daryl was repulsed by his mother's words. "Mom, Cecilia may not be perfect, but Elijah isn't a saint either!"
For the past year and a half, Daryl and Elijah had become like strangers, always arguing and even fighting when they met. Azalea was heartbroken, regretting telling Daryl about Elijah and Cecilia's affair, but it was too late to change anything.
"Elijah is still your brother. I know he messed up, but he was young and foolish. Can't you forgive him?" Azalea pleaded, tears welling up in her eyes.
Daryl turned away, not wanting to meet his mother's gaze. "Mom, don't push me. I can't forgive him."
"Daryl, after your father passed, it's just me, you, and Elijah. I'm getting old, and one day I'll be gone. Do you really want to be enemies with your brother for life? How can I rest in peace?" Azalea's tears flowed freely.
Seeing his mother in tears softened Daryl's heart. He helped her sit on the couch.
"Daryl, I know you're a good person. Promise me, if I leave one day, you'll look out for Elijah!" Azalea cried, holding Daryl's hand.
Looking at his mother's hand holding his, Daryl met her eyes and promised, "Mom, I can only promise that no one will hurt Elijah, but our brotherly bond is gone."
"Daryl," Azalea wanted to say more.
But Daryl had already stood up and left.
He opened the door and walked into the bedroom he once shared with Cecilia.
This room was where they lived after getting married. Since Cecilia left, he rarely came back, but the furniture and decorations remained unchanged.
As Daryl looked at the furniture and the large bed, his mind was filled with memories of him and Cecilia in this room.
But starting tomorrow, everything here would be over.
After leaving the airport, Cecilia headed straight to the train station. It was still early, and she could make it back to see her mother and brother's family.
It had been a year and a half since she last visited home. She had lied to her mother, saying she was abroad for infertility treatment, and rarely called home because her mother always asked too many questions, and Cecilia didn't know how to answer.
In the afternoon, Cecilia finally arrived at her brother's house.
After knocking, someone quickly came to open the door.
When the door opened, Cecilia saw her long-lost sister-in-law.
"Cecilia?" Seraphina's eyes widened in surprise.
"Seraphina." Cecilia smiled faintly.
Seraphina immediately turned and ran into the house, shouting, "Mom, Mom, Cecilia's back!"
"What?" Rainey, who was sewing on the bed, froze upon hearing her daughter's return.
By then, Cecilia had reached her mother's bedroom door.
"Mom!" Seeing her mother had aged significantly, Cecilia's voice choked with emotion.
"Cecilia, why haven't you come to see me for so long? I thought you'd forgotten about your mother!" Rainey cried, tears streaming down her face.
Cecilia knelt by her mother's bed, and Rainey hugged her, patting her back before holding her tightly. The two women cried uncontrollably.
"Mom, don't cry. Cecilia's return is a happy occasion!" Seraphina said, trying to cheer them up.
