Chapter 861 Tears
Seeing the worry in Isabella's eyes, Susan got the message loud and clear. She gave a small smile and said, "Hey, don't sweat it. It's just a breakup. I'll be alright. Plus, I've got Hayden and Spring. They need their mom."
"I know you'll pull through. You've got me, remember? Look at me, I'm in a worse spot than you!" Isabella said, patting her swollen belly.
Susan couldn't help but laugh at that.
Isabella was always so tough. She'd been through a lot over the years too.
Susan glanced at Isabella's belly and asked, "So, six months now, right?"
"Yep, just hit six months," Isabella confirmed.
Susan reached out to touch Isabella's belly, smiling. "I can't wait to meet this little one."
"Me too," Isabella said, looking down at her belly with a grin.
Isabella seemed hesitant to say something next.
Susan caught on. "Just spit it out. No need to hold back with me."
"Has that jerk Leon married? I hope he chokes on his wedding cake or gets hit by a car!" Isabella ranted.
Susan shook her head with a smile. "Sorry to burst your bubble, but he's doing pretty well."
"Ugh, what a shame!" Isabella huffed, plopping down on the couch, sulking.
Susan knew Isabella was struggling to let go. She was just hiding her pain.
For the baby's sake, she had to stay strong. Susan had been there and knew the drill.
Susan sat next to Isabella and frowned. "From what I hear, Leon hasn't hooked up with any rich heiress. He's still flying solo, not even a close female friend."
Isabella stared at Susan, shocked.
"Do you think I'd lie to you?" Susan asked.
Isabella's surprise faded, and she pouted. "That just proves he's a jerk. He just wants to mess around with women and not settle down."
Susan frowned. "Maybe Leon has his reasons."
"Yeah, his reason is he doesn't want to get married," Isabella sneered.
"But..." Susan started.
Isabella cut her off, "Don't bring him up again. As far as I'm concerned, he's dead!"
Susan had no choice but to drop it.
The room got a bit awkward.
Cecilia looked at Susan and said, "Susan, out of the three of us, you were the happiest. Now, we're all in the same boat!"
Susan adjusted her hair, her heart weighed down by a profound bitterness.
Cecilia smiled. "But life goes on, right? At least we have each other, so it won't be too lonely."
"Exactly! We can't just stop living. From now on, let's enjoy life and live in the moment... Ouch!" Isabella was saying excitedly when she suddenly clutched her belly in pain.
"What's wrong?" Susan and Cecilia asked, seeing Isabella's discomfort.
"The baby kicked me!" Isabella said helplessly.
Susan and Cecilia exchanged amused looks.
"The baby's protesting. Talking about living in the moment is clearly irresponsible to the little one in your belly," Cecilia teased.
Isabella could only smile and stroke her swollen belly. "This baby is the only one who can control me now."
"Finally, someone who can control you," Cecilia laughed.
Just then, there was a commotion outside, followed by the laughter of Hayden and Spring.
"Hayden and Spring are back," Cecilia shouted first.
Susan froze for a moment, then quickly walked to the entrance, unable to contain her emotions.
The kids were changing their shoes, with Kathy and Mary helping them with their backpacks and coats.
"Hayden, Spring," Susan called out, overwhelmed with emotion.
The kids looked up, stunned to see Susan standing there.
"Ms. Wilson, when did you come back?" Kathy asked, equally surprised.
"Just a little while ago," Susan said, her voice choking up.
"Ms. Wilson, it's great you're back. They've been talking about you every day," Mary added happily.
"Mommy!"
"Mom!" The kids reacted and rushed into Susan's arms.
Susan squatted down, hugging each kid with one arm, tears streaming down her face.
For more than three months, she had missed them every moment but had been too busy to be with them.
"Mommy, don't cry!" Spring said, reaching out with chubby little hands to wipe away Susan's tears.
Hayden blinked his big eyes and looked towards the living room. "Mommy, didn't Daddy come back with you?"
Susan was at a loss for words, not knowing how to answer.
"Mommy, why didn't Daddy come back?" Spring echoed.
Hayden frowned. "Mommy, didn't Daddy say he would come to spend the holidays with us? The holidays are almost here."
Their questions made Susan's heart ache, but she quickly wiped her tears with the back of her hand. She couldn't show sadness in front of her kids; they needed a warm and happy environment to grow up in.
Forcing a smile, Susan said, "Hayden, Spring, Daddy is very busy with work right now, so he could only let me come to be with you first."
"When will Daddy not be busy?" Hayden asked.
Susan bit her lip. "It might take a while."
"How long is a while?" Spring continued to ask.
Question after question overwhelmed Susan.
Luckily, Cecilia walked over and smiled. "Hayden, Spring, I made fruit cake for you. Hurry and go eat!"
"Okay!" Hearing there was fruit cake, they ran towards the dining room.
