Chapter 1348 It's Over

Cecilia sneered at Daryl, "Daryl, you're gonna regret this. Sooner or later, you'll pay for what you said today!"

"What more can I lose? I've already lost my wife and home. It's not like I had much to begin with," Daryl shot back with a cold smile.

Cecilia's eyes hardened as she observed his stubborn behavior. "We clearly can't see eye to eye. Let's finalize our divorce tomorrow morning."

"After the divorce, you can't take Thaddeus away!" Daryl said urgently.

Cecilia felt a wave of sadness as she saw the desperation in Daryl's eyes. He wasn't worried about Thaddeus; he was worried about his mother being upset over Thaddeus.

"Don't worry. I understand Thaddeus's grandmother's health condition. I won't take Thaddeus away for now. But this decision has nothing to do with you. I sympathize with his grandmother's illness and am moved by her love for Thaddeus," Cecilia said, standing tall.

Daryl nodded, relieved. "Whatever your reasons, I'm grateful. What about you? Will you stay at the Fields Mansion? You and Elijah?"

When he mentioned Elijah, Cecilia cut him off. "Daryl, the Fields Mansion isn't yours alone. Whether I stay or leave is none of your business. And who I choose to be with in the future is my own affair. You don't need to worry about it!"

Cecilia's chin was raised, her eyes filled with contempt for Daryl. He no longer deserved her sadness or concern. It was time to end everything.

Daryl seemed hurt but nodded. "Fine, we'll go to the courthouse together tomorrow morning."

Cecilia replied, "I'll meet you at the courthouse entrance at 8:30 AM. Make sure you bring all the necessary documents and leave early. I will too. This time, nothing will delay the process."

With a determined look at the stunned Daryl, Cecilia turned and walked away.

After Cecilia left, Daryl's hands trembled as he picked up a pack of cigarettes from his desk. He struggled to light one, finally succeeding after several attempts. He stood by the window, staring into the dark distance, taking deep drags.

When Cecilia entered her bedroom, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. Leaning against the door, she quickly locked it, not wanting anyone to see her crying.

Under the dim wall light, Cecilia let her tears flow freely. Through her tear-filled eyes, she looked at her sleeping son, Thaddeus, feeling a mix of emotions.

She wasn't crying for herself anymore but for Thaddeus. He would grow up without a father, a father who refused to acknowledge his existence.

When her tears had finally ceased, Cecilia sat by the bed, gently touching Thaddeus's chubby hand. In a hoarse voice, she whispered, "Thaddeus, don't worry. Even without a dad, you still have me. I'll make sure you're as happy and loved as any other kid."

The next morning, Cecilia woke up early. She had been too heartbroken to sleep, and her eyes were red and swollen, her complexion pale.

After frowning at her reflection, she applied heavier makeup to cover her exhaustion. She didn't want Daryl to see her sadness. She vowed this would be the last time she felt heartache because of him. From now on, she would live happily with Thaddeus.

Once ready, Cecilia left the Fields Mansion with her purse, hailed a cab, and headed straight to the courthouse.

She arrived twenty minutes early, determined not to be late this time.

At 8:30 AM, Daryl appeared in the courthouse lobby. He wore black slacks and a white shirt, his hair neatly styled. He didn't wear a tie, and his collar was unbuttoned. His face was expressionless, and Douglas followed him at a respectful distance.

Daryl spotted Cecilia from afar. She wore a beige suit, sunglasses, high heels, and heavy makeup with deep red lipstick.

Daryl frowned at her appearance.

He walked up to Cecilia.

"Let's go inside," Cecilia said coldly.

At the courthouse, Cecilia strode straight to the divorce clerk's window. Daryl followed a step behind.

Their uncontested divorce required minimal processing - no custody battles, no property disputes. The clerk stamped the final paperwork without ceremony.

Cecilia signed briskly while Daryl's pen hovered momentarily.

"Your divorce is now official," the clerk announced, handing them each a copy.

Without a word, Cecilia tucked the decree into her purse and walked away. Daryl remained seated, watching her go with conflicted eyes.

Half an hour later, Cecilia sat in a quiet coffee shop.

The music was melancholic, and Cecilia couldn't help but smile bitterly at how fitting it was.

Across from her sat two elegantly dressed young women.

"Cecilia, you called us here so urgently. Did something happen?" Susan asked anxiously, exchanging a glance with Isabella.

Cecilia felt a heavy weight on her chest. She had been cautious and stressed for days, so she called her best friends, Susan and Isabella, to confide in them.

Cecilia removed her sunglasses, revealing her red, swollen eyes. Despite her makeup, the sadness was evident, which was why she wore the sunglasses today.
