Chapter 603 Sorrow

During this pregnancy, Susan had a strong reaction; she would vomit at any strange smell and felt so tired every day that she wished she could stay in bed all day.

Despite this, Susan gritted her teeth and persisted. She continued to go to work on time, spent one day each weekend with her children, and visited Spring one lunchtime each workweek.

Soon, more than half a month had passed, and no one around her noticed anything unusual. Susan knew that without Isabella's unwavering support, her carefully constructed facade would have crumbled long ago.

One afternoon, after lunch, Susan was dozing in her swivel chair.

Now, as soon as she was full, she couldn't keep her eyes open and had to sleep in the chair for an hour; otherwise, she couldn't work in the afternoon.

Suddenly, the office door was pushed open.

Susan opened her eyes and saw Isabella walk in, then closed her eyes again.

After Isabella closed the door, she sat on the other side of the desk and said, "Do you still have the mind to sleep?"

"If you brought a bed in here, I wouldn't budge for the rest of the day," Susan mumbled, her eyes still closed.

After a while, Susan didn't hear Isabella speak.

Curious, Susan opened her eyes and saw Isabella staring at her. She couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong with you?"

"See for yourself." Isabella, with a stern face, threw a newspaper in front of Susan.

Susan suspiciously reached for the newspaper, looked down, and frowned.

It was one of those gossip rags, the kind that specialized in scandals and rumors about local celebrities and business tycoons. They were mostly harmless, filled with exaggerated stories and dubious sources, but every now and then, they stumbled upon a kernel of truth.

Today's front page featured two photos, and the male lead of this news was Seb, whom Susan still thought about, while the female lead was Esme Davis, a very popular singer in Maple Valley in recent years.

Speaking of Esme, she was truly a stunner among women, with a beautiful face and a graceful figure, making the men of Maple Valley flock to her. Wherever she was, whether at a banquet, concert, or party, she always drew a lot of attention.

Susan's heart skipped a beat when she saw the two photos.

In the photos, Seb and Esme stood very close and looked very intimate.

These two, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, elevated the entire newspaper, making the page a visual delight.

The next moment, Susan threw the newspaper back on the table, pretending not to care, and said, "Isn't it just that Esme endorsed a product from Prosperity Group?"

"How can you not be worried at all? This Esme is no simple woman. Haven't you heard? Her previous boyfriends were all rich men. It's said she recently broke up with another rich man and is now single. Look at these photos; it's obvious she's trying to get close to Seb. This is blatant seduction. Aren't you worried? Seb is about to be lured away!" Isabella pointed at the photos, shouting.

Facing the anxious Isabella, Susan smiled faintly and said, "Look, whether this gossip is true or not, Seb and I are already divorced. Even if he remarries now, it has nothing to do with me. Why should I be worried? Besides, what right do I have to be worried?"

Hearing this, Isabella was momentarily speechless. After a while, she said, "I just wanted to remind you that if you regret it, there's still time. If someone else comes into his life, you won't have any chance."

At this moment, Susan looked blankly at the blue sky outside the window and murmured, "I hope someone can be by his side so he won't be sad."

Isabella couldn't stand it anymore. She stood up abruptly and said, "I can't be as noble as you. The person I love... he can't love someone else or be with someone else. Fine, I won't talk to you anymore. The more I talk, the angrier I get!"

After saying this, Isabella turned and walked out.

Just as she reached the door, she suddenly turned back, picked up the gossip newspaper on the desk, and said, "I'll take this away so it won't bother you."

After the office door closed, Susan leaned back in her chair, but this time she was wide awake.

She was just being stubborn. Seeing another woman by his side, how could she be so generous and not care at all?

When she saw the photos in the newspaper, her hands trembled, and now her heart still felt tight.

Rationally, she knew this was normal. In the future, there might even be photos of Seb marrying another woman. She also knew Seb wasn't happy now, and she hoped he could be happy and free from worries, which would surely mean another woman entering his life.

But emotionally, she couldn't accept it. However, Susan knew she had to accept it.

Fortunately, Hayden and Spring were with him now. She touched her belly; the little life inside would always be with her. As long as the five of them were safe and happy, that was enough. Not every couple in love could stay together forever.

A few evenings later, Susan, Isabella, and Dorothy were working overtime at the firm. A project needed to be completed that day.

Isabella knocked on Susan's open office door and then walked in.

She casually placed a document on Susan's desk and then whispered, "Why don't you go home? There's not much work left. Dorothy, Maria, and I can finish it soon."

Susan, buried in her work, looked up and frowned. "How can that be? If you all are working overtime, how can I go home and rest?"

Isabella insisted, "You're pregnant now, don't you understand?"

"Don't make a fuss. I know my body; I'm fine," Susan said with a smile, shaking her head.

Isabella wanted to say more, but at that moment, her phone rang unexpectedly.
