Chapter 492 Coward

"Alright," Susan nodded.

The store manager hollered inside, "Hey, bring out those two new pairs of diamond-studded shoes for this lady to try on!"

Susan plopped down on the shoe-changing bench, listening to the manager's spiel. "These two pairs are limited editions. Only two of each style in all of Maple Valley. They're pricey, but super high-end and elegant, perfect for a wedding dress. They'll totally make a stunning impression!"

Just then, a female clerk in a black skirt and white blouse came out, carrying two pairs of shoes.

The manager quickly directed her, "Hurry up and help this lady try them on."

The clerk knelt on one knee, opened one of the boxes, and pulled out a pair of dazzling high heels. She helped Susan take off her shoes and carefully put on the new ones, tying the laces with precision.

Susan and Isabella's eyes were glued to the shoes on Susan's feet.

These shoes were indeed the new limited edition, high-end and elegant, encrusted with exquisite rhinestones, like Cinderella's glass slippers. They were clearly made for a wedding dress.

The clerk, still kneeling, glanced at the shoes on Susan's feet and then looked up in admiration. "Miss, these shoes seem to be made just for you. You..."

When the clerk saw Susan's face clearly, she choked on her words, her expression turning into a mix of shock, shame, helplessness, and embarrassment.

At that moment, Susan also looked up at the clerk's face.

Seeing the person helping her change shoes, Susan was visibly stunned!

She never expected Amelia to end up selling shoes here, and her face was no longer heavily made up. Though she still wore makeup, it was much lighter. Coupled with her conservative outfit, Susan could hardly believe this was the same Amelia who used to flaunt herself in front of her.

Isabella also took a closer look at Amelia and recognized her.

After a moment of surprise, Isabella crossed her arms and sneered. "Isn't this Amelia? How come you're selling shoes now? Am I seeing things?"

For a moment, Amelia's face flushed, and she lowered her head without saying a word, a stark contrast to her usual self. In the past, she would have immediately confronted Isabella.

Hearing Isabella's words, the store manager asked Amelia, "Amelia, do you know them?"

"More than know, we're old acquaintances," Isabella interjected before Amelia could speak.

"In that case, why don't you help Amelia with her sales? She's been working here for a week and hasn't sold a single pair of shoes. This pair is one of our high-end models and would count significantly towards her sales!" the store manager said with a friendly smile.

At this moment, Amelia had her head bowed so low it was almost touching her chest.

Susan could see that her hands were clenched into fists, likely enduring a great deal of restraint.

Susan knew that in such high-end stores, the requirements for employees were very strict. Applicants even had to pay a deposit, and if they offended a customer or damaged store merchandise, they would be held accountable.

It seemed like Amelia and Sophia had hit rock bottom, or Amelia wouldn't be stuck selling shoes here.

For some reason, Susan thought she'd be happy about it, but seeing Amelia like this made her feel kinda sad. But they brought this on themselves, so no pity from her.

Right then, Isabella chimed in. "Sure, we can help with her sales, but I don't really dig this pair. Can you bring out the other ones for my friend to try?"

Amelia shot her a death glare.

Isabella, not missing a beat, turned to the store manager, "Manager, what's with your employee's attitude? Is this how you treat customers?"

"Amelia, what's going on? Have you forgotten the employee rules?" the store manager scolded her quietly.

Feeling wronged, Amelia explained, "Manager, they have a grudge against me. They're just here to mess with me. They definitely won't buy our shoes!"

The store manager corrected her, "As long as a customer walks into our store, they are our priority. You need to let go of past grievances."

Then, the store manager turned to Susan and Isabella with a smile. "Ladies, I apologize for our employee's behavior. I'll have her help you try on the other pair right away."

Seeing Amelia still standing there, the store manager grew impatient and urged, "Hurry up and help the customer try on the shoes!"

Amelia stood there, fuming, but didn't move.

"Do you want to get fired? Don't forget how you begged me; that's the only reason I let someone with no experience like you stay on the job," the store manager said sternly.

Amelia had no choice but to crouch down again, remove the shoes from Susan's feet, and open the box of the other pair. Just as she was about to help Susan put them on, Susan suddenly put on her own shoes and said to the store manager, "I'm sorry, I don't like either pair."

Then Susan took Isabella's hand and left the store.

Once outside, Isabella shook off Susan's hand and complained, "We finally had a chance to get back at her, and you chickened out? How spineless!"

Susan smiled and said, "Amelia is already down and out. Why should we bother with her?"

"Have you forgotten how they treated you and your mom? Don't you hate them at all now?" Isabella pressed.

Hearing this, Susan thought for a moment and then said softly, "When I think about it, every time I met Sophia and Amelia, we ended up fighting. Now that they have reached this point, that's the best punishment for them. Even fate is punishing them for me. Why should we waste our time and energy on them? I don't want to see them anymore. I want them to disappear from my life because I want to forget all the unhappy memories."

Hearing Susan's words, Isabella thought for a moment and then laughed. "I see you've changed. You're no longer the Susan who sought revenge. Since you have Hayden and Spring, you've become a coward!"

Susan laughed and said, "You're still the same hothead. Time hasn't changed you at all."

Isabella then looked up at the sunset and said, "My mom used to be my vulnerability. Now that I'm on my own, I have nothing to worry about and nothing to fear."
