Chapter 887 Can't Be Without You

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Susan finally spotted a car pulling up to the black wrought-iron gate outside the villa garden.

She recognized it right away—it was Seb's car. Despite wearing slippers, she dashed out of the villa.

By the time she got there, the driver had already opened the back door for Seb.

Seb stepped out, and the first thing Susan noticed was a bloody scratch on his jaw.

Worried, she rushed over and asked, "What happened to your face?"

Seb's eyes softened when he saw her. He touched his jaw lightly and shrugged, "Hugo's sword nicked me. It's no big deal."

"Sword?" Susan's brow furrowed.

Her heart ached seeing the five-inch scratch, but Seb seemed unfazed.

"Men duel with swords, naturally," Seb said with a slight smile.

"Did you duel? Are you hurt anywhere else?" Susan grabbed his arm, scanning him for more injuries.

"Hugo's good, but he can't hurt me in more than one place," Seb said, sounding proud.

Susan pouted, "You're still so full of yourself at a time like this!"

Seb, seeing her disbelief, got serious. "Hugo and I have fought many times. I'm just a bit better than him, so I'm confident I can win."

Susan's face turned anxious. "What about Hugo? How is he?"

If Seb won, Hugo might be in danger. She couldn't bear the thought of Hugo getting hurt.

Noticing her concern for Hugo, Seb's face darkened, and he got sarcastic. "You care about Hugo that much?"

"Stop being jealous, okay? This is serious. If something happened to Hugo, you wouldn't be off the hook either!" Susan snapped back.

Seb's mood lifted. He stepped closer, grabbed her shoulders, and grinned. "Are you worried about me?"

"No!" Susan glared at him.

"You're not worried about Hugo getting hurt; you're worried I'll be blamed," Seb teased.

Susan rolled her eyes. "You sure think highly of yourself."

Seb chuckled. "Don't worry, Hugo's injury is worse than mine, but he's not in danger."

"He got hurt too?" Susan asked, concerned.

"Yeah, my sword nicked his arm. He needed about twenty stitches. He's back at the hotel resting, with Manuel looking after him. You can relax," Seb said, his tone softening.

Susan frowned. "Twenty stitches? You were too harsh."

Seb frowned back. "Are you more worried about me or him? Do you wish it was me who needed twenty stitches?"

Susan lowered her head, saying nothing.

That whole afternoon, Susan had been deep in thought. Even though she and Hugo were totally innocent, they had gotten pretty close during their time in Zandoria. Any guy would be upset, especially with those photos floating around. Seb's jealousy and anger made sense; it wasn't all on him.

Noticing Susan's silence, Seb sighed and said, "Don't worry. I went to the hospital with Hugo this afternoon. I saw the doctor stitch him up. It's just a superficial wound; he'll be fine."

Susan looked up at Seb and asked, "Didn't you duel? Why did you go to the hospital with him?"

Seb met her gaze and replied, "We're friends, after all. After the duel, we talked. He understood the situation and apologized, and I accepted."

Hearing that Seb and Hugo had patched things up, Susan felt a wave of relief.

"Really?" she asked, still a bit skeptical.

She had thought their friendship was over for good.

Seb nodded. "Hugo said he doesn't regret dueling with me because I needed to learn a lesson. Otherwise, I wouldn't take you seriously."

Susan was deeply moved, her eyes welling up with tears. Hugo had been so good to her. Thinking back to that week in Zandoria, his care had been meticulous. She felt guilty for not being able to reciprocate his feelings.

"In front of me, you're moved to tears by another man's words. Are you going too far?" Seb said, a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice.

Susan quickly looked up at the sky to stop her tears and said, "Are you really that bothered by the week Hugo and I spent together in Zandoria? I swear on my life. Hugo and I were completely innocent. Although he expressed his feelings for me,  I kept my distance from him. I was too sad to open up to anyone."

Her tears flowed again, feeling both wronged and emotional, recalling the deep despair she had felt back then.

Seeing Susan in tears, Seb immediately pulled her into his arms and comforted her, "Don't cry, okay? When you cry, it tears me apart. I always knew you and Hugo were just friends; I was just being irrationally jealous."

Susan looked up and questioned, "You knew we were just friends, yet you still threw a tantrum?"

"I was just angry at those photos. Actually, I regretted it right after I got mad at you that day, but I was too arrogant to apology you. So I went to a bar to drink alone," Seb admitted, looking at Susan.

"Didn't you say a friend invited you to dinner?" Susan asked, raising an eyebrow.

Seb looked embarrassed and said, "How could I contact my friends here? They'd definitely laugh at me for being messed up by a woman. I texted you, hoping you'd ask me to come home for dinner. When you didn't reply, I drank alone at a small bar. The more I drank, the more I missed you and the kids. So by nine o'clock, I came home."
