Chapter 530 Ex-Boyfriend

Then Susan said, "He was bawling and begging for cash. I told Isabella to get security to toss him out. Already called the lawyer and set him up with a grand a month for living expenses. I'm done dealing with him. Did he bug you today?"

Seb chuckled, "Nah, no one messes with me unless I let 'em. I had someone give him a reality check so he stops dreaming big. A thousand bucks ain't much, but it's enough to keep him fed. Plus, he's healthy and not that old; he can totally fend for himself."

Susan gave Seb a look, "You used to tell me to keep things chill. What's with the change of heart?"

Seb shrugged, "I get James now. No matter what you give him, it's never enough. He's just greedy."

Susan thought for a sec, then leaned her head on Seb's shoulder, whispering, "I'm sorry."

Seb rested his chin on her head, fingers tracing her skin, "Don't say that again."

"Can I say 'I love you' instead?" Susan grinned, looking up.

"That one's cool. Actually, you should say it every day." Seb smirked.

Susan giggled.

Seb flipped her over, pinning her down.

"What are you doing?" she whispered.

"What do you think? Playing dumb or hard to get?" Seb laughed, kissing her neck.

"That tickles, get off me." Susan tried to push him away, but no chance.

Soon, the room's temperature was heating up, and then some.

Time flew, and bam, it was December.

"It's snowing, first snow of the year!" Isabella burst into Susan's office, all excited.

Susan looked up, seeing snowflakes twirling outside the window.

"How about we hit up some barbecue tonight?" Isabella suggested.

Susan shook her head. "Nah, Todd's called everyone home for dinner tonight."

Isabella asked, "Todd's out of the hospital, right?"

Susan nodded. "Yeah, he just got out of rehab this morning. His legs are almost good, but he still needs a cane to walk steady."

"Having dinner at your villa? What's up with that? He knows you and Carol always clash." Isabella gossiped.

Susan smiled wryly. "Can't dodge her forever."

Last night, Seb told Susan that Todd wanted the whole fam together for dinner.

Susan was hesitant, wanting to find an excuse to skip. She hadn't seen Carol in a month or two, dreading a showdown.

But Seb said Todd specifically wanted her there, and no one could bail on the family gathering, so Susan had to go.

As the city lights flickered on and big snowflakes drifted down, blanketing everything in white, Susan made her way back to the villa. Seb was already home, Todd was chilling on the living room sofa, Rylee and Andrew had shown up, and Kathy was busy setting the table.

"Dad, congrats on getting out of the hospital," Susan greeted Todd with respect.

"Thanks," Todd nodded, looking a bit serious.

Rylee grabbed Susan's hand warmly. "Susan, it's been ages!"

"Rylee, how's it going?" Susan smiled back.

"Not bad. Hey, I need to chat with you," Rylee said, pulling Susan into the dining room.

Susan was puzzled, not sure what Rylee wanted to talk about.

Once they were alone, Rylee whispered, "Susan, got any tips from when you were pregnant with Hayden and Spring?"

Susan was caught off guard.

Rylee blushed. "You know, Andrew and I have been married for like five years, but no baby yet. Didn't care before 'cause we were studying abroad and didn't want kids. But now we've been back for months, and I'm starting to wonder why I'm not pregnant."

Susan got what Rylee was hinting at.

Frowning a bit, Susan suggested, "Have you gone to the hospital for a check-up?"

"I hate the smell of hospitals," Rylee frowned.

Susan advised, "It's best to get checked. If there's an issue, you can catch it early."

"Susan, why don't you come with me?" Rylee proposed.

"Well..." Susan hesitated. She didn't mind Rylee, but Andrew was a factor, so she kept her distance to avoid drama.

"Susan, Mom's busy with her new friends and doesn't have time for me. I don't want to tell Andrew either, in case... Please, Susan, come with me. I don't trust anyone else in Maple Valley." Rylee pleaded.

Seeing Rylee's worried face, Susan had no choice but to agree. "Alright, I'll go with you to the hospital tomorrow."

"I knew you were the best," Rylee beamed.

Just then, Susan noticed Kathy busy in the kitchen and said, "Rylee, I'll go help Kathy. You go talk to Dad."

"Sure," Rylee, who'd been pampered all her life, happily went to chat with Todd.

Susan walked into the kitchen and saw Kathy had almost finished cooking, so she started carrying dishes.

Suddenly, a male voice came from behind. "Susan, need any help?"

Recognizing the familiar voice, Susan turned and saw Andrew standing there.

Glancing at Kathy, Susan said, "You can help me carry the dishes."

"Sure," Andrew took the dish Susan handed him.

Susan handed over the dish and turned to get another.

At that moment, Kathy walked out with a pot of soup, leaving just Andrew and Susan in the kitchen.
