Chapter 514 Quarrel

Seb's eyes were all gooey for Susan, which ticked Carol off.

After some chit-chat, Carol, who'd been fuming since she walked in, suddenly snapped, "Susan, even though you just tied the knot with Seb, you're already a mom of two. You gotta watch how you dress and act. As the Anderson family's daughter-in-law, you need to be all virtuous and modest. No dressing all sexy or flirting with your hubby in public. The Andersons won't stand for that, and it'll just embarrass us!"

Susan felt her face heat up, getting chewed out by Carol in front of the whole Anderson clan. She had no clue what she did wrong and felt totally confused and wronged but couldn't exactly clap back at Carol.

"Mom, today’s Seb and Susan’s big day. What are you even saying?" Rylee, sensing the awkward vibes, quickly grabbed Carol's hand and tried to stick up for Susan.

Susan had only met Rylee a few times, but she got her vibe. Unlike Carol's sharpness, Rylee was like a flower in a greenhouse—sweet, kind, and straightforward, though a bit spoiled. But she was always nice to Susan.

"Today’s their wedding day. Just chill," Todd said.

Seeing Todd and Rylee back Susan up, Carol got even more pissed. She glared at Susan and kept going, "If I don’t say it, it’ll be late for the Anderson family’s rep on the line. During the ceremony, she was all over Seb, making him look like a fool in front of everyone. Do you know what people were whispering? They were saying this bride’s gonna seduce the groom every day, making him weak!"

Carol made sure to shout that last part, so everyone got the point.

So, Carol was mad because Seb had held her tight and kissed her for what felt like forever during the ceremony.

Hearing this, Susan's face turned beet red and she felt even more humiliated to her last sentence!

However, with Todd and Andrew still in the room, Susan felt super embarrassed and had no idea how to defend herself.

Right then, Seb stepped up and said, "Mom, this isn’t Susan’s fault. It’s all on me. I was just hyped about the wedding and wanted to spice things up. Looking back, it was a dumb move. If you wanna blame someone, blame me. Susan’s innocent."

Seeing Seb stand up for Susan so fiercely, Carol got even more ticked off. "She’s clearly seducing you. Do you think I don’t know you? You’ve always been well-mannered and thoughtful. Since meeting her, you’ve turned all reckless. It’s all her fault!"

Carol pointed at Susan, not letting up.

Hearing this, Susan couldn’t take it anymore. Even though she knew she shouldn’t argue with Carol, she couldn’t keep her emotions in check.

The next moment, Susan squared up and said to Carol, "Mom, today’s my wedding day. Of course, I wanna look good. Seb and I are married, and as long as we’re not doing anything crazy, there’s nothing wrong with what we do in public. I can’t agree with your accusations today!"

Seeing Susan talk back, Carol lost it. She grabbed a cup from the coffee table and smashed it on the ground!

"How dare you defy me right after getting hitched!" Carol raged.

Susan, keeping her cool, said, "Mom, you’re mad right now. I’m gonna leave."

With that, she turned and walked out.

"Look at that attitude! Just look at it!" Carol angrily slammed the table.

"Mom, don’t be mad. You’ll hurt yourself," Rylee quickly tried to calm her down.

"How can I not be mad?" Carol fumed.

Seb stepped forward and said, "Mom, it’s all my fault. Please don’t be angry. I’ll talk to Susan and get her to apologize."

"Apologize to me? In your dreams!" Carol shot Seb a disapproving look.

Todd, with a dark expression, finally spoke up. "You’re just looking for trouble. On such a happy day, you had to ruin it. Carol, why can’t you change your temper?"

Hearing Todd’s dissatisfaction, Carol immediately turned her anger on him. "Todd, I know you don’t like me, but there’s no need to say such things to disgust me. My temper’s been like this since I was born, and it’s not changing!"

Seeing Carol’s shrewish behavior, Todd disdainfully said, "I’m done arguing with you. We’ve been at it for decades and gotten nowhere. Seb, push me out. I don’t wanna see her!"

Seb, feeling helpless, had to step forward and push Todd away, knowing that staying would only lead to a bigger fight.

"You think I wanna see you? Go ahead, leave. From now on, I’ll live with Rylee and Andrew, and you can live with your daughter-in-law. You clearly favor her!" Carol said angrily.

Hearing this, Todd waved his hand in frustration. "What nonsense are you talking about? Why did I ever marry a woman like you? You’ve brought nothing but chaos to our family!"

"I regret marrying you too. I must’ve been blind back then," Carol retorted, not backing down.

"Mom, please, just stop," Rylee stood up, frowning.

Seb, pushing Todd, turned back and said, "Mom, I’ll come see you another day."

"If you bring that jinx with you, don’t bother!" Carol turned her face away, still fuming.

Helpless, Seb could only push Todd out.

"Dad, I’ll visit you another day," Rylee called after them.

After Todd and Seb left, Carol picked up a newspaper, fanning herself as she said, "They really drive me nuts!"

Rylee frowned and said, "Mom, why did you have to embarrass Susan in public today? You’re making things tough for Seb."

Carol naturally didn’t like hearing this. "What, are you on her side too?"

"Mom, I’m not taking sides. I’m just stating the facts. Today’s Seb and Susan’s wedding day, and you’re making everyone miserable," Rylee tried to reason.
