Chapter 537 Infertility
Upon hearing this, Susan blurted out, "Wait, are you saying Mom's cool with the divorce?"
Susan's heart did a little flip. If Todd and Carol split, Todd would totally end up with Catherine. And if Carol and Seb found out about Todd and Catherine's sneaky affair, all hell would break loose.
But, Susan had a selfish little thought. If that went down, her poor mom might finally catch a break. Still, seeing Seb's worried face, Susan felt bad for him.
Seb shook his head, "Nah, Mom's still pissed. Even if she agreed, Rylee and I wouldn't let them go through with it."
"Can you really stop them?" Susan asked, testing the waters.
Seb frowned, "I ran into some of Dad's buddies in Maple Valley today. They're gonna talk to him tomorrow. When they heard about the divorce, they said they'd handle it!"
Susan nodded, "Guess that's our best shot."
That night, Seb barely said a word, just frowning the whole time. Susan had never seen him so down in the dumps.
The next day, in the swanky vintage living room, Carol, rocking a burgundy velvet dress, was pacing back and forth in front of the couch.
"Something's fishy," Carol muttered, touching her chin and frowning.
"Mom, what's up?" Rylee asked, looking confused.
"Todd's up to something." Carol walked over to Rylee and ordered, "Call Andrew right now and tell him to get his butt home!"
"Mom, Andrew's at work," Rylee frowned.
"My stuff's more important than his job!" Carol snapped.
"Okay." Rylee didn't dare argue and quickly called Andrew.
In less than half an hour, Andrew rushed home.
"Mom, you called?" Andrew stood in front of Carol, out of breath.
Seeing him like that, Carol quickly told Rylee, "Get Andrew some water, let him catch his breath."
Rylee hurried to get some water.
Andrew smiled, "Mom, just tell me what you need!"
Rylee handed over a glass of water, and Andrew chugged it down in one go.
Carol pulled out a bank card from her bag and handed it to Andrew, "This card's got $200,000. Find someone to tail Todd and see who he's hanging with. If anything weird pops up, let me know ASAP!"
Andrew was stunned for a sec, then quickly took the card. "Got it, Mom."
"Mom, why do you want to spy on Dad? You think he's up to something shady?" Rylee asked, puzzled.
Andrew jumped in, "Dad wouldn't do anything illegal. Mom just wants to know who he's hanging with. It's weird for him to suddenly want a divorce; something's gotta be up."
Carol smiled, "Andrew, you're sharp. Looks like Rylee picked the right guy. Treat her well, and I'll make sure you have a killer career!"
Andrew, beaming from ear to ear, promised, "Mom, I'll treat Rylee like a queen for the rest of my life and bust my butt to give her the best life!"
Carol nodded, satisfied. "Alright, get on it. And remember, keep this on the down-low!"
"Got it." Andrew nodded and took off.
Once he was gone, Rylee frowned and asked, "Mom, do you really think Dad's up to something?"
Carol shot a glance at naive Rylee and sneered, "I bet he's got another woman. Why else would he want a divorce?"
"No way! Dad's not like that," Rylee shook her head, refusing to believe it.
"Men love to mess around. You better keep an eye on Andrew too. He’s riding on the Anderson family’s coattails now, but once Seb and I can't keep him in check, he might not be so loyal," Carol warned.
Rylee was stunned. "Mom, Andrew wouldn't do that."
Seeing Rylee's devastated look, Carol frowned, "You're so naive. I'm just telling you to be cautious. But look at you, one sentence and you're already falling apart. You won't be able to handle Andrew. He's smart but a bit sneaky; you're no match for him!"
"Mom, Andrew isn't like that," Rylee insisted.
Carol poked Rylee's forehead and sighed. "You silly girl. Don't worry, Seb and I won't let him get too big for his britches. Being a VP at Prosperity Group is enough. No matter how capable he is, he won't escape my control."
Seeing Carol's calculating look, Rylee's eyes filled with unease and fear.
That morning, Susan walked Rylee out of the hospital.
Rylee, looking worried, stared at the test report in her hands, feeling super frustrated.
Seeing Rylee like this, Susan felt awful and tried to comfort her, "Rylee, don't be too down. Medical science is pretty advanced now. I'll ask Seb to check if any big hospitals or even places abroad can help with your condition."
Hearing this, Rylee grabbed Susan's hand in a panic, "Susan, please don't tell Seb about this, and don't mention it to anyone!"
Susan frowned, "You can't just ignore it."
Rylee let go of Susan's hand, leaned against a pillar, and said sadly, "The doctor said my uterus is congenitally deformed. This can't be fixed unless I get a uterus transplant, but that's impossible with current medical tech. Susan, thanks for your kindness, but I don't want anyone to know about this, especially not Andrew. Can you keep this secret for me?"
The doctor had said Rylee's uterus was too small to carry a baby. Susan knew this was almost incurable, but seeing Rylee so heartbroken, she could only comfort her and try to think of other solutions.
Susan nodded, "This is your private matter. If you don't want anyone to know, I'll pretend I never heard about it."
Hearing this, Rylee grabbed Susan's hand and said gratefully, "Susan, thank you!"
