Chapter 355 So That's How It Is
At this moment, Leon walked up to Susan. "Ms. Wilson, need a lift home?"
Susan, a bit tipsy, waved him off. "No need, I can go home by myself!"
She grabbed her purse and wobbled forward.
Leon see this, trailed after her. "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson told me to make sure you get home safe."
Susan scoffed, "Oh, now he cares? All he's about is Linda these days. Does he even remember I exist?"
She stumbled ahead, her steps unsteady.
Leon kept his distance, not daring to touch her, but his frown deepened as he followed closely.
As they left the hotel lobby and descended the steps, Susan missed one and started to topple over.
Leon, quick as a cat, darted forward and caught her.
Susan, feeling woozy, clutched her head and shut her eyes.
Seeing how drunk she was, Leon stayed silent and guided her to the parking lot.
Ten minutes later, Susan was slumped in the passenger seat, and Leon was driving, his brow furrowed.
With Susan leaning back, eyes closed, Leon hit a button, and the window slid down.
The cool night air hit Susan's face, and she blinked awake, a bit more alert.
"Didn't I say I could get home myself?" Susan shot Leon an annoyed look, running a hand through her hair.
"Just doing my job. Don't make it tough for me," Leon replied with a helpless grin.
Susan turned away, staring at the bright city lights outside, her head throbbing.
Seeing her silent, Leon spoke up, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson really does care about you. He did all those to Linda because he had no choice."
Susan laughed bitterly. "Yeah, right. Is someone holding a gun to his head? Whatever, he can be with whoever he wants, as long as he doesn't mess with her and then ditch her."
She shook her head, memories of Seb's indifferent glance at the hotel lobby flashing in her mind.
Leon, hearing her bitter words, frowned. "Ms. Wilson, you got Mr. Anderson all wrong."
Susan sneered, "What's there to misunderstand between us now?"
Leon glanced at her, then sighed. "I know it's not my place to talk about your relationship with Mr. Anderson. But as someone watching from the sidelines, seeing all the effort and patience he's put into this, I'm really moved. His dealings with Linda are all for you!"
Susan shot him a skeptical look. "What are you talking about?"
Leon hesitated, then decided to spill the beans. "Mr. Anderson didn't want me to tell you, but I can't keep quiet anymore. To clear your name and expose Fiona and Elliott, we need Linda's help. You know how Linda feels about Mr. Anderson. If he doesn't play along with some of her demands, she won't help us get the evidence we need."
"What does Seb need Linda for?" Susan asked, totally confused.
She knew proving her innocence wouldn't be a walk in the park, but she never thought Linda would be a key player.
Leon sighed, "Fiona and Elliott are sneaky as hell. They wouldn't leave any obvious evidence. So, Mr. Anderson got all the surveillance footage from Pioneer Accounting Firm through Linda, including the footage of a repairman fixing your computer and all the phone records from the office. We found some crucial stuff in there."
Susan's mind was blown. So, all of Seb's dealings with Linda were for her?
Leon kept going, "Elliott didn't have appendicitis at all, but he still checked into the hospital. His leave request to Linda clearly stated the illness. And that classmate you ran into at the café? She was actually in cahoots with Fiona. Fiona used her to sell Skyreach Group's info to the other party. They set you up as the fall guy."
Susan remembered that once-close female classmate. She used to be so sweet and innocent. It was hard to believe she'd try to ruin her now. Susan felt a deep sadness wash over her.
"Linda's always had a thing for Mr. Anderson. If he didn't play along, she wouldn't have helped. And Mr. Anderson had to keep it on the down-low because if word got out, the evidence would be toast," Leon explained.
Even though Susan was touched by everything Seb had done, she stubbornly said, "If he doesn't like Linda, he shouldn't give her false hope and let her down!"
"Mr. Anderson never promised her anything. Linda made a request, and Mr. Anderson agreed so she'd help," Leon clarified.
"What request?" Susan asked, her brow furrowing.
"To go on a solo vacation with her to Azure Haven," Leon replied.
Susan frowned. Linda was a proud person, and she didn't expect her to make such a request.
No wonder Susan heard Linda say outside the conference room today that if Seb spent time getting to know her, he'd fall for her.
Linda hoped that by spending time alone with Seb, he'd fall for her. But her hope was shattered. Maybe she was too confident?
For a guy like Seb, who'd seen countless beauties, how could he be like an ordinary man and fall for a woman just by spending a few days together?
After a long silence, Leon said, "Mr. Anderson took care of Linda today out of guilt. He didn't want her to have a bad rep. So, Ms. Wilson, please understand Mr. Anderson and don't be mad at him."
"I'm not." Susan held her head, feeling a splitting headache, probably from drinking too much.
"Mr. Anderson hasn't been feeling great either. He's been socializing with Linda and the cops a lot, drinking a ton, and his stomach problems have flared up," Leon said, frowning.
