Chapter 927 You guys continue

Hearing the caregiver invite Leon to stay for dinner, Isabella frowned. 'Why is she butting in? I'm the host here. If anyone's inviting him, it should be me.'

But deep down, Isabella did want Leon to stay. She couldn't explain it, but she wanted more time with him.

Of course, asking him to stay herself? No way she could say that out loud.

Isabella glanced at Leon, trying to gauge his reaction.

"Thanks for all your hard work," Leon said to the caregiver, not mentioning dinner at all.

"Just a sec, dinner will be ready soon." The caregiver assumed Leon was staying and happily went out to buy soy sauce.

The door closed, leaving the house quiet with just Leon and Isabella.

Feeling awkward, Isabella ran her fingers through her hair and smiled at Leon by the door. "This caregiver sure talks a lot."

"I think she's great," Leon replied.

His eyes were on her, making Isabella feel uneasy.

Quickly, she said, "I'm doing better now. I don't need a caregiver anymore. She can leave tomorrow."

Isabella was really worried about the cost—$30 a day added up to $900 a month, and she couldn't afford it.

But Leon took it differently. To him, it sounded like she was rejecting his help and didn't like him.

"I've already paid her two months' salary in advance. She has to stay and take care of you for two months," Leon said firmly.

Isabella got angry. "Leon, are you my guardian now? Since when do you get to decide everything for me?"

"You're injured, so I can temporarily act as your guardian!" Leon said, one hand in his pocket, looking all firm and bossy.

Isabella couldn't stand his attitude. She got out of bed, balancing on her good leg while the one in a cast hung in the air.

"What are you doing?" Leon frowned as he saw Isabella hopping towards the vanity.

Ignoring him, Isabella balanced herself with one hand on the vanity, opened a drawer with the other, and pulled out a manila envelope.

Under Leon's watchful eyes, she hopped back and shoved the envelope into his chest.

"What's this?" Leon asked, though he seemed to already know.

"This is the money I owe you. Count it; if it's short, it's none of my business!" Isabella's tone was stiff.

Leon held the envelope and frowned. "Do you really need to be so clear-cut with me?"

Isabella was momentarily speechless but quickly pouted. "You're just an employee of my best friend's ex-husband. How could I owe you so much? Even if it's just a favor, $1,400 is a lot. For people like us who don't have much money, it's a big deal."

Leon's frown deepened at her words.

Isabella glanced out the window at the darkening sky. She had said it on purpose, hoping he'd say their relationship was more than that.

Leon's face darkened as he held up the envelope. "This money is nothing for me, so stop making a big deal out of it!"

With that, he tossed the envelope towards the bed.

Isabella quickly reached out to catch it but missed, causing her to lose her balance and fall to the side.

She screamed.

Her leg wasn't fully healed, and now she risked injuring the other one. Just her luck.

Seeing her fall, Leon frowned and took a big step forward, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her towards the bed.

To avoid hurting her leg in the cast, Leon flipped over, making himself the cushion.

Isabella landed on the bed—or more accurately, on Leon.

Despite the soft landing, she still let out a startled cry.

She found herself lying on a firm, warm body. His skin was resilient, cushioning her fall, so she didn't feel any pain.

Looking up, she saw him lying on her blue and white floral bedspread, his eyes fixed on her.

Their eyes met, and for a moment, Isabella forgot their argument and discomfort.

His eyes were deep and focused, filled with a hint of tenderness and affection.

At this moment, she was entirely on top of him, and she could smell his scent.

It was both familiar and unfamiliar, as she hadn't smelled it in a long time. Isabella found herself somewhat addicted to it.

Leon suddenly reached out to touch Isabella's smooth, straight hair.

Just then, the door suddenly opened, and a voice came in. "I got the soy sauce!"

Hearing the caregiver's voice, Isabella immediately realized she was out of line.

Moreover, she was still lying on top of Leon, and couldn't help but think, 'What am I doing? Why haven't I pushed him away?'

The next moment, Isabella hurriedly tried to get off Leon.

However, with one leg in a cast and feeling flustered, she couldn't get up after a couple of tries.

At this moment, the caregiver, holding a bottle of soy sauce, appeared at the bedroom door and loudly said, "Mr. Johnson, I got the soy sauce..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she saw the two of them on the bed and almost popped her eyes out.

Upon seeing the caregiver's surprised look, Isabella felt both embarrassed and angry but couldn't get off Leon.

The next moment, the caregiver quickly turned around, holding the soy sauce. "Sorry, I didn't see anything."

As she spoke, she walked out, adding, "We're out of salt too. You two continue; I'll go buy some!"
