Chapter 322 Seb, Come Back
Seeing Dorothy dive into the river with Amanda in her arms, Catherine straight-up passed out.
Susan's legs turned to jelly, not know what to do. Watching Dorothy and Amanda get swallowed by the raging river, she knew their chances were slim to none.
Right then, Henry stepped up, ready to jump in, but his buddies held him back, yelling, "Dude, you can't swim! You'll just drown too!"
"Who here can swim? Help!" Susan shouted, telling the crowd to call 911 while she climbed the railing, screaming for help.
But the crowd just murmured, "The current's way too strong. If someone who isn't a pro jumps in, they'll just get swept away too."
So, even the swimmers in the crowd hesitated. They just called for emergency services.
Everyone knew that even if the pros showed up in ten minutes, Dorothy and Amanda might not make it.
"Dorothy, Amanda," Susan cried, tears streaming down her face. She felt like they were slipping away right in front of her.
Just when hope seemed lost, Seb pushed through the crowd. He yanked off his tie and shoes, then climbed over the railing.
As Seb was about to jump in, Susan yelled, "Seb, are you sure you can swim?"
She never thought Seb would be the one to jump. She knew he could swim but wasn't sure how good he was. The river was wild, and she was scared for him. What if he couldn't save them and got in trouble himself?
Hearing Susan, Seb turned and smirked. "Don't worry; I was the college swim champ!"
With that, Seb dove into the raging river.
"Seb!" Susan clung to the railing, shouting in despair.
Everyone's eyes were glued to Seb as he powered through the water, searching for Dorothy and Amanda. The crowd was dead silent, watching his every move.
Soon, Seb emerged with Amanda, his strong arms pulling her to shore.
The crowd went nuts, cheering Seb as a hero.
Henry and Susan rushed to the shore, where a kind bystander took Amanda from Seb's arms.
Amanda was pale but alive. She coughed and spat out some river water.
Seb glanced at Amanda, saw she was okay, then turned back to the river.
Susan patted Amanda's back and looked at Seb swimming away. She shouted, "Seb, you gotta bring Dorothy back!"
By now, it had been about ten minutes since Dorothy took that dive with Amanda. Dorothy couldn't swim, and things were looking pretty grim.
Maybe hearing Susan's shout, Seb turned his head and made an "OK" gesture.
Seeing that, Susan felt a tiny bit of relief. She trusted Seb to keep his word. Plus, she just saw him in action; he could swim. She believed him when he said he was the college swim champ.
"Be careful!" Susan yelled towards the river.
She couldn't tell if Seb heard her. All she could see was the endless, churning water, and she prayed silently.
After another ten minutes, Susan finally spotted Seb swimming back with someone in tow.
Seeing Seb finally rescue Dorothy, Susan was hit with a wave of emotion, tears filling her eyes.
Right then, two ambulances rolled up.
One took the unconscious Catherine and Amanda away.
The other waited by the shore, ready to help the next ones out.
Soon, Seb pushed Dorothy onto the shore. Susan saw Dorothy coughing and knew she was probably okay. Her eyes then locked on Seb, who looked totally wiped out, his face twisted with exhaustion.
People on the shore tried to pull Seb up, but a sudden wave knocked him back into the river. He was swirling in the water, half-submerged, and the guy who had just been a hero in the river now looked like he was in serious trouble. Seb was struggling.
Seeing this, Susan stepped into the water, shouting, "Seb, get up here! Get to the shore!"
But Seb, looking at Susan, just managed a tired smile and shook his head, clearly out of gas.
"Someone, help! He's exhausted!" Susan turned to the crowd, shouting.
Seb was getting carried further away by the current, with only his head bobbing above the water.
People on the shore shook their heads, saying, "You need to be a top-notch swimmer to pull someone out of that river. He looks too tired, probably got a cramp."
"In this situation, a cramp means he's done for."
"Yeah, if someone who isn't a strong swimmer goes in, they might both drown."
Hearing this, a wave of fear crashed over Susan.
No way, she couldn't let anything happen to Seb. She couldn't live without him, and neither could Hayden and Spring.
The next moment, Susan ran into the river, crying and shouting, "Seb, come back!"
Seeing Susan about to do something crazy, Henry, who was watching the medics work on Dorothy, rushed forward and caught up with her in a few steps.
By now, the water was up to Henry and Susan's waists, but Susan didn't care. Even though she couldn't swim, she was more scared of never seeing Seb again.
"Susan, calm down! Don't do anything stupid!" Henry shouted, grabbing her shoulders.
"Let me go!" Susan cried and struggled.
