Chapter 74 Critical Moment

Cynthia's words made Susan's stomach churn. She clutched her waist and sank onto the sofa.

Cynthia was right. How could a family like the Andersons let their bloodline wander? Thinking back to Carol's sudden visit two months ago and all the baby stuff she brought, it was clear they cared a lot about this child.

But knowing it was impossible was one thing; fighting for it was another. Susan said firmly, "I will never give up custody of the child!"

"By then, you might not have a choice," Cynthia sneered.

Susan glared at Cynthia. "You like Seb. I won't fight you for him. Can't you have your own child? Why do you have to take someone else's?"

"It's not that you won't fight me. You simply don't have the right to. You're just my substitute!" Cynthia raised her chin arrogantly.

Seeing her domineering attitude, Susan understood. Cynthia chose this moment to provoke her, probably to agitate her and cause complications with her pregnancy.

Understanding this scheme, Susan suppressed her anger and told herself, 'Susan, don't fall for her trap. You must endure!'

Then, she smiled lightly.

"What are you smiling at?" Cynthia was taken aback by Susan's smile.

Susan stopped smiling and exposed her scheme. "I'm smiling because your visit today shows your lack of confidence. Is it because Seb is reluctant to divorce me, and you can't wait any longer?"

"You're talking nonsense! Seb said he would divorce you after you give birth and then marry me," Cynthia shouted.

"If that's the case, I'm about to give birth soon. Can't you wait a few more days? Why did you have to come all the way to Butterfly Hill to find me?" Susan said disdainfully.

Seeing her first plan fail, Cynthia resorted to her second premeditated scheme.

"Susan, do you know why Seb sent you to this villa on Butterfly Hill?" Cynthia crossed her arms, her eyes gleaming with a strange light.

"What are you trying to say?" Susan said coldly.

Cynthia lowered her head and smiled. "On the surface, it's because you were flirting around, and Seb got angry, so he sent you to this remote place to prevent you from cheating on him again."

Susan stared at Cynthia in shock. Even these things, she knew. It seemed that Seb had reached a point where he shared everything with her.

After all, Cynthia had been in Seb's heart for ten years. For a man like Seb, who was surrounded by admirers, not falling in love with another woman for ten years showed how important Cynthia was to him.

Thinking of this, Susan's heart ached inexplicably. She then placed her hand on her already high belly, and the baby started to act up.

"Actually, there's another reason you don't know. Your presence in Maple Valley makes me unhappy, and Seb doesn't want to see me unhappy, so he sent you here. Without you, Seb and I are so happy in Maple Valley. We can spend every day together, welcoming the dawn and bidding farewell to the dusk," Cynthia smiled as she approached Susan.

Hearing this, Susan was dumbfounded.

She never thought that Seb insisted on sending her here for such a reason. It turned out he found her presence in Maple Valley an eyesore for Cynthia.

Seeing Susan's furrowed brows, Cynthia kept going. "You know, as soon as you left, Seb moved me into your old place. Now I sleep in that big bed you used to sleep in. It's perfect for Seb and me. I guess you never really satisfied him, did you? He's been all over me every night for the past few months, and I can't even get up in the morning."

"Stop it!" Susan couldn't take it anymore and shouted.

The curtains, bed sheets, and bedding in that house were all things she had spent days picking out, all in her favorite colors. Now, they were all taken by Cynthia.

Of course, the Seb she loved had also become Cynthia's. Susan's mind was in turmoil, and she clutched her chest in distress.

Seeing Susan's distressed look, Cynthia laughed heartily.

"I'm a bit tired today. I'll come back another day to chat with you. Next time, I can tell you about Seb's preferences, especially in bed," Cynthia smiled seductively at Susan and then turned to leave.

At this moment, Kathy happened to come over with freshly brewed tea.

As Cynthia turned, she bumped right into Kathy.

The coffee spilled all over Cynthia, and the cup clattered to the carpet.

"Are you blind?" Cynthia looked down at her wet clothes and immediately shouted at Kathy.

"Miss Phillips, I'm sorry, I didn't see you," Kathy quickly apologized.

"I'm such a big person, and you didn't see me? What bad luck!" Cynthia grumbled a few more words and then left in a huff.

After she left, Kathy spat at her departing figure.

The next moment, Kathy came to Susan's side. Seeing Susan's distressed look, she anxiously asked, "Mrs. Anderson, are you okay? Do you want me to call Mr. Anderson?"

"No need, I'm fine. Help me upstairs to rest," Susan said, her face pale.

"Okay." Kathy then carefully helped Susan upstairs.

Susan had no appetite at all, and Cynthia's words kept echoing in her ears. Finally, after a sleepless night, her stomach started to hurt.

At first, she thought resting for a while would help, but the pain grew worse, and eventually, Susan became scared.

When she called Kathy over, Kathy noticed Susan's pants were wet and exclaimed, "Mrs. Anderson, your water broke!"

Hearing this, Susan was terrified!

Even with no experience, she knew that when the water breaks, it was time to give birth.

"Kathy, quickly call Seb!" Susan anxiously grabbed Kathy's hand.

They were at the peak of Butterfly Hill, and it would take two hours to get to the hospital in Maple Valley.

"Wait here, I'll call right away." Kathy hurried downstairs to make the call.

Susan, enduring the pain, struggled downstairs and half-leaned on the sofa, waiting for Seb to send a car to take her to the hospital.

However, after making several calls, Kathy finally said in disappointment, "Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson is on a business trip, and Mr. Johnson went with him. They're on a plane and can't be reached."

"What should we do?" Susan said anxiously. This was too unfortunate, and she was extremely worried.

"Right, Mr. Anderson gave me Ellie's number before he left and told me to call her in case of an emergency." Kathy then made another call.

Susan, holding her high belly, kept comforting the baby inside. "Baby, hold on a little longer, don't be in such a hurry to come out!"
