Chapter 422 It's Not What You Think

"Get out!" Seb's voice boomed as the secretary lingered at the door.

The secretary bolted, not even bothering to pick up the coffee cup she spilled.

Once the door clicked shut, Susan felt the tension and said, "Can you let go of me first?"

"Nope!" Seb, even angrier, leaned in to kiss her.

Susan shoved his face away, yelling, "Seb, cut it out! This is your office!"

"I can kiss my woman wherever I want." The more she resisted, the more he wanted to kiss her.

"I'm just your ex-wife! I mean nothing to you now!" Susan struggled and shouted.

He pressed her down on the desk, sneering, "Whatever that old man gives you, I can too. And more. Why stick with him? Daddy issues?"

Tears welled up in Susan's eyes.

Seeing her tear up, Seb's anger softened, and he loosened his grip.

"What's wrong?" Seb's voice gentled.

Susan pushed him away, got up, wiped her tears, and said, "You know I never had a dad. Why said that?"

"I didn't mean it like that." Seb knew her family situation. She is usually very strong, so he was surprised by her sudden vulnerability today.

Susan snapped, "Stop calling him old. Derek's in his early fifties, looks like he's in his forties. Not much older than you!"

Seb looked at her, confused and hurt. "What spell has Derek cast on you? Do you really like him?"

Susan saw a flicker of insecurity in Seb's eyes.

She found it kinda funny. Seb was so jealous. She'd only had a couple of drinks with Derek, and he was losing it.

Susan shook her head and said, "I don't care about Derek at all. But you, accusing me of this stuff. Do you want to break up? And you want me to say it first so you don't look bad?"

As soon as she finished, Seb knocked a big desk lamp to the floor.

The crystal lamp shattered, even on the carpet.

Susan clutched her chest, staring at Seb like he was a wild beast. She was trembling with fear.

"I think you're paranoid. You should be with Dorothy!" Seb's voice was cold, but it was clear he was trying to keep it together.

Susan didn't expect him to blow up like that, but she wasn't about to back down. She finally said what had been eating at her for days.

"Now that you got someone new, of course, you think I'm nuts." Susan scoffed.

Seb glared at her, confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Maya. Don't act like you don't know her. Seb, stop pretending. You're just making yourself look like a hypocrite." Susan shot back coldly.

Hearing Maya's name, Seb froze, then his face darkened.

Seeing his reaction, Susan knew she hit the mark. She sneered, "What? Cat got your tongue?"

"Who told you?" Seb asked, sounding defeated.

Susan gave him a look. "If you didn't want me to find out, you shouldn't have done it. Do you think I'm stupid?"

Seb's face turned even darker.

Seeing this, Susan said, "Your silence says it all. Since that's the case, why keep bothering me? I'll move out with Spring ASAP."

Saying that last part hurt her heart. She glanced at Seb, then turned to leave.

Seb grabbed her arm, desperate. "Susan, it's not what you think. Let me explain, okay?"

"There's nothing to explain. Don't worry; I won't hate you. You're still the father of our kids. I won't tell them. Just let me go." Susan spoke quickly, trying to hold back her tears.

Seb wouldn't let go. Susan's emotions boiled over, and she hit him a few times, crying, "What do you want? If you think I'll be your side chick, forget it. I hate mistresses!"

Seb stood there, taking her hits, his brows furrowed.

Then, he suddenly stepped forward and hugged her tight.

Susan leaned on his shoulder, tears streaming down her face.

"Susan, it's really not what you think. Let me explain, okay?" Seb pleaded.

Susan choked up. "Seb, even if you and Maya are getting married, it doesn't matter. Just don't lie to me. Being deceived feels awful."

She looked up at him, her eyes begging for the truth.

At that moment, Seb's phone rang on the desk.

He reached for it, glanced at the number, and gently said to Susan, "Let me take this call, and then I'll explain."

Susan didn't really want to hear his explanation, but figured she might as well listen and then make a clean break.

"Dad, what's up?" Seb said into the phone.

Hearing it was his dad, Susan turned to the window, staring blankly at the distant scenery, her mind empty.

"What? It's confirmed to be okay? That's great. Yeah, early retirement sounds good. You can do what you like. I'll talk to Mom. Okay, bye." Seb said quickly into the phone, then hung up.
