Chapter 28
At the crucial moment, Susan grabbed Amelia's wrist and gave her a shove, making her stagger.
Pointing at Amelia, Susan yelled, "I've had enough of you! Mess with me again, and you'll regret it!"
Amelia, who'd never been treated like this before, glared at Susan, fists clenched, eyes full of fury.
Susan's eyes were filled with contempt as she stared at Amelia, her chest heaving with anger. She didn't care that they were in Prosperity Group. Today, she was ready to settle all scores with Amelia, both old and new!
"Mr. Anderson?" someone called out in surprise.
Susan looked up and saw Seb standing at the office door, with Carter, the finance manager, behind him.
Seb's face was expressionless, but his eyes were dark as he looked at Susan and Amelia. For a moment, she felt at a loss.
Everyone fell silent, and the atmosphere became tense. Carter quickly walked over and scolded Susan, "Susan, what's going on? Miss Garcia is our partner. You need to be polite, understand?"
Susan looked up at Carter and thought, 'Be polite? Does that mean I have to be bullied?'
At this point, Amelia ran to Seb's side, wrapping her arms around his and whining, "Seb, look at your Prosperity Group employees trying to hit me. The management here is so chaotic! Good thing it's me. If it were someone else, it would ruin yourgroup's reputation!"
Amelia, playing the victim, caught Susan's glare, especially as she clung to Seb's arm, making Susan incredibly uncomfortable. Susan turned her head away, unwilling to witness their closeness.
Carter, still favoring Susan, quickly smiled at Seb and said, "Mr. Anderson, Susan's mother is ill, and she's been in a bad mood lately. Please be understanding."
Before Seb could speak, Amelia interjected, "Everyone has problems at home. If everyone acted like Susan, Prosperity Group would be in chaos!"
Carter glanced at Amelia, rubbed his mouth, and said nothing, but he thought the same as everyone else, 'Amelia was acting like she was Mrs. Anderson.'
"Miss Garcia provoked us first. We may be employees, but we shouldn't be bullied. Do we not have tempers?" Isabella couldn't help but speak up for Susan.
Her words echoed the sentiments of the Prosperity Group employees. Although they didn't dare to speak, they all nodded vigorously.
Seeing this, Amelia immediately pointed at Isabella and said to Seb, "Seb, this employee has a terrible attitude and low efficiency. How did someone like her get into Prosperity Group?"
Isabella was about to argue.
"Say no more. Do you really want to lose your job?" Carter quickly gave Isabella a look.
Isabella really needed this job, so she turned her head and swallowed her anger.
Seeing Isabella suffer because of her, Susan couldn't bear it any longer and said to Amelia, "Amelia, it's me you have a problem with. Don't drag innocent people into this. Come at me if you have an issue."
"You're still acting tough in front of Mr. Anderson. Think I'm easy to push around?" Amelia shouted, fuming.
"So what if it's Mr. Anderson? You—"
"Enough!" A commanding voice cut through the tension.
Seb's face was stone-cold, his eyes sweeping over everyone. The room fell silent, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Seb's anger was palpable. The employees lowered their heads, and even Amelia's mouth hung open. Susan felt a chill run through her, her earlier anger snuffed out.
Seb pushed Amelia's hand away, subtly distancing her from himself.
He then said to Carter, "Prosperity Group employees must follow the rules. Any employee who causes trouble with a client must write a formal apology. I want to see it personally."
"Yes, sir." Carter nodded immediately.
Amelia complained, "Seb, just an apology?"
Seb turned to Amelia, his voice icy. "Miss Garcia, we're not on a first-name basis, and this is Prosperity Group. Please watch your behavior."
Seb's public reprimand left Amelia's face red with embarrassment.
"I have a meeting to attend. Excuse me." Seb nodded politely and left.
Amelia glared at everyone before storming off in her high heels, causing a few chuckles.
"What are you laughing at? Get back to work." Carter whispered before returning to his office.
Susan sat back at her desk, feeling frustrated. She stared at the blank paper and pen in front of her, even more annoyed. 'How was I supposed to write an apology?' Just thinking about it made her angry.
The next day at noon, just as she was about to leave work, Susan received a call from Leon.
"Mrs. Anderson, please come to Velvet Sky Bistro for lunch."
Hearing this, Susan glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention and then whispered into the phone, "I've already asked a colleague to bring me lunch."
"Mrs. Anderson, this is a direct order from Mr. Anderson," Leon insisted.
Susan frowned. With Leon still waiting for an answer, she reluctantly said, "I'll be there shortly."
After hanging up, Susan felt conflicted. Although Seb's attitude towards Amelia had been somewhat satisfying, he had still made her write an apology. In the end, he hadn't taken sides. She was, after all, his nominal wife, and Seb had let her be bullied by Amelia. This had been weighing on Susan's mind for the past few days.
But she needed this job. Despite not wanting to see Seb, Susan convinced herself to go. 'After all, why refuse a good meal?'
Entering the private room at Velvet Sky Bistro, Susan saw the table already filled with dishes, but Seb was nowhere to be seen. Only Leon stood by the table.
Noticing Susan's puzzled look, Leon smiled and pulled out a chair for her. "Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson has a meeting this afternoon, so he asked you to dine alone."
Hearing this, Susan felt quite pleased. At least she didn't have to see Seb's face, and she still got to enjoy a good meal.
She noticed that today's table wasn't just filled with vegetarian dishes; there was a balanced mix of meat and vegetables, and the exquisite dishes looked very appetizing.
