Chapter 885 Competing for Favor

Susan was so shocked by what she heard that her jaw practically hit the floor.

She couldn't help but think, 'Is this really Seb? Whether he believes those photos or not, shouldn't he be furious? Why is he begging me not to leave him?'

Seeing the stunned look on Susan's face, Seb let go of her shoulders and buried his face in his hands for a moment.

With a defeated expression, he said, "Susan, you must be laughing at me. I really can't live without you!"

Susan, both angry and amused, shot back, "So you've already decided there's something between Hugo and me, huh?"

Seb, trying to keep his cool, tossed the photos onto the bed. "Are these photos fake? Look how happy you are with him! Those smiles aren't fake, right? You stayed at Hugo's castle in Rainbow City for over a week, didn't you? You two were alone together and nothing happened? How do you expect me to believe that?"

Susan felt a mix of shame and fury, her hands trembling.

In the next moment, she suddenly raised her hand and slapped Seb across the face.

The slap echoed loudly in the room.

Both Seb and Susan were stunned.

Seb looked at Susan in disbelief, and Susan stared back, equally shocked.

Her hand froze in mid-air. She couldn't believe she had hit him.

Just as regret filled Susan, Seb frowned, took a couple of steps back, then turned and left the room.

"Seb!" Susan snapped out of it and chased after him, only to find that he had already left the villa.

She sat dazed on the edge of the bed all afternoon.

Those photos were really damning, even to her. How much worse must they be for Seb?

Susan deeply regretted hitting him. If she had seen those photos herself, she would think the worst too, especially since Seb was a proud man.

She wanted to call him but held back, feeling wronged.

He knew how she felt about him. How could he doubt her? How could she so easily fall for someone else besides him?

Susan sat on the edge of the bed, feeling extremely conflicted. She wanted to find him but also felt a bit resentful.

As dusk fell, Susan received a text message and quickly picked up her phone to read it. It was from Seb, causing her heart to tighten with anxiety.

Seb: [Sorry, I wasn't calm today. I have dinner with friends tonight. I'll come back after dinner.]

Seeing this message, although he wasn't coming back immediately, Susan's anger subsided a bit.

Because this time he didn't disappear or ignore her. He knew to send a message to inform her of his whereabouts, which was a big improvement.

Then, Susan got up and left the room.

She realized she couldn't afford to be immature anymore. She needed to explain everything to Seb clearly, and most importantly, he had to believe and understand her.

Susan didn't want others to notice anything unusual, so she went downstairs to eat and chatted with them cheerfully.

At nine o'clock, Susan was sitting on the bed telling a story to Spring in her arms when the door was pushed open.

She looked up and saw Seb walking in.

Susan could tell right away that Seb had been drinking, and not just a little. She felt a bit annoyed, thinking he was blowing things way out of proportion.

She lowered her head and focused on telling the story to Spring, completely ignoring Seb.

Seb, seeing Susan giving him the cold shoulder, awkwardly turned and headed to the bathroom for a shower.

Hearing the water running, Susan found it hard to keep telling the story.

Noticing the pause, Spring shook Susan's arm and asked, "Mom, why did you stop?"

Susan snapped back to reality and said gently, "Spring, it's late. How about I put you to bed?"

Spring's big eyes blinked, and she asked, "Mom, am I sleeping here with you tonight?"

Susan smiled and said, "What? You don't want to sleep with me?"

"I do!" Spring quickly nodded.

"Then let's sleep," Susan said, turning off the crystal lamp and switching on the wall lamp.

The room dimmed, and Susan patted Spring, singing a lullaby.

More than half an hour later, Seb finished his shower and came out. The room was dim, with only the wall lamp on.

Seb could vaguely see Susan and Spring snuggled up and sleeping, and he couldn't help but frown.

Hayden and Spring usually wanted to sleep with Susan together, but Seb always made them sleep in their own rooms downstairs, not wanting them to disturb his time alone with Susan.

Tonight, Susan kept Spring with her, and he knew what that meant. She was definitely still mad at him.

Seb frowned, then lay down on the other side of the bed.

Actually, Susan wasn't asleep at all; she was just pretending.

That night, neither of them really slept, but neither spoke a word to each other.

The next morning, when Spring woke up, Susan busied herself dressing and washing Spring, completely ignoring Seb, and then took Spring downstairs for breakfast.

At the breakfast table, Isabella had already finished eating early. Seb naturally had no appetite, but he didn't want to leave the table either, so he sat there, reading the newspaper and drinking milk.

Susan was busy taking care of Hayden and Spring, not exchanging a single glance with Seb.

Both of them were holding onto their pride, neither willing to apologize.

"Susan, someone is here to see you!" After a while, Isabella, who was resting in the living room, called out to the dining room.

"Who's looking for me?" Susan frowned.

In Northstar City, besides Cecilia, she had no friends close enough to visit her at home.

"It's a man, and he's really handsome!" Isabella's tone carried a hint of excitement.

Hearing this, the air in the dining room seemed to freeze, and Susan's mind raced.

The next moment, Susan looked up and met a pair of deep, angry eyes.

Susan was stunned, and just hoped it wasn't Hugo coming to see her.

"Susan, hurry up!" Just as Susan and Seb's eyes met, Isabella called from the living room.

"Coming!" With no choice, Susan responded and reluctantly left the dining room.

As for those angry eyes behind her, she could only ignore them for now.
