Chapter 1296 Cruelty

"If you die before him, can you handle seeing him in his twilight years, living alone without kids? Even if our Fields family has money, can money buy warmth? When Daryl's old and alone in this mansion, he'll only have the sunset and the flowers to look at, with no one to talk to," Azalea sneered.

"Daryl said if we really want kids, we could adopt one, or even adopt Elijah's. My brother and sister-in-law's kids would be fine too," Cecilia felt her words were weak and powerless.

Azalea looked at Cecilia and said, "Adopt someone else's child? There are many stories about adopted kids looking for their real parents. And do you even know the background of the kid you're adopting? Don't underestimate genetics. Who would give away a perfectly good child? They're either from criminals, thieves, or from unwed mothers with questionable morals. You say you want to adopt Elijah's or your brother and sister-in-law's kids? Ha! You know Elijah, right? He might never get married; his camera is practically his wife! And your sister-in-law, isn't she pregnant? Would she be willing to give you her child? Even if she is, it would be after she has two or three kids. And who knows if they can even have that many?"

Though Azalea's words were harsh, Cecilia couldn't deny that she had a point.

Maybe she was being too selfish. A man without his own children was a kind of sadness, especially for someone as outstanding as Daryl.

At that moment, Cecilia's mind conjured an image of an elderly Daryl, wrinkled and hunched, standing at the mansion's door with a cane, surrounded only by servants and drivers, with no family of his own. His eyes would be filled with loneliness and solitude.

When Cecilia thought of this, her heart ached.

Noticing Cecilia's silence, seemingly moved by her words, Azalea continued, "I know Daryl is a man of deep feelings, but can you guarantee he'll never change his heart?"

Cecilia looked up at Azalea, confused.

Azalea snorted, "Men not betraying their feelings is just a matter of time, or they lack the ability. I don't mind telling you, do you think your dad doesn't have some mistresses outside? It's only because I have two good sons that my position isn't taken. You and Daryl won't have any children. With Daryl's status, even if he doesn't want to, there will always be women throwing themselves at him. When you grow old and he gets tired of you, with no passion left, only a bit of pitiful so-called affection, do you think he'll stay loyal to just you?"

Azalea's words struck Cecilia deeply!

She had thought about these things, but she chose to believe in Daryl's love for her. However, she couldn't deny that Azalea's words reflected the most real side of human nature; her thoughts were too idealistic.

"If you have a few kids, I believe with Daryl's character, you could grow old together. But now you have no kids and won't have any in the future. Women outside will bet everything on Daryl. If they have kids, the kids are innocent, right? Would you let them be illegitimate? Daryl would give the child a name, and then you'd be old and abandoned. Daryl would arrange your later years, but you'd be heartbroken, living a life worse than death. This is foreseeable. Do you really want to walk this path?"

When Cecilia heard this, her face turned pale, and tears streamed down her cheeks.

She couldn't deny that Azalea was right. No matter how much she believed in Daryl, life was too long, with too many changes.

Azalea's words shook Cecilia's confidence. She didn't know what to say, knowing that any argument would be weak in front of Azalea.

Sensing Cecilia's attitude wavering, Azalea gently said, "I know asking you to leave Daryl immediately is too much. I'm a woman too. If I met a man like Daryl, I wouldn't want to let go."

"Are you saying I should leave Daryl?" Cecilia asked, choking up.

Now she understood why Azalea was pressuring her. Azalea was looking for a breakthrough with her because there was no breakthrough with Daryl. If Azalea continued, their mother-son relationship would be strained, so Azalea wanted her to retreat.

Cecilia felt even more desolate. Leaving him? It was like cutting her heart piece by piece.

"Only if you leave will Daryl give up," Azalea replied.

"Mom, don't you think that's too cruel?" Cecilia choked.

Azalea frowned, her face showing sorrow. "I know it's hard, but you love Daryl, right? Daryl would defy his parents, leave Fields Group, give up everything for you. His love for you is evident. Are you so selfish to only care about your happiness and not his? He deserves a normal family, a wife who can help him, kids who can inherit his business. You can't give him that. You young people say love is great, that making the other happy is the most selfless love. Why can't you do it when it's your turn? Do you not truly love Daryl? Are you using him, just enjoying the material and fame he brings?"

Azalea's voice grew sharp.

"Of course I truly love Daryl. I'd give up everything for him, but..."

But leaving him, Cecilia couldn't do it.

Azalea's tone softened, "I know it's a big decision, too hard to make immediately. I'll give you some time to think it over."
