Chapter 629 Bickering
After hundreds of consecutive dunks, Seb was finally exhausted. He returned the basketball to the group of teenagers and turned to leave the court, his steps weary.
In a corner of a park, a sweat-drenched Seb sat on a bench meant for resting.
At this moment, he was drenched in sweat, his shirt soaked through. He was panting heavily, looking at the pedestrians and vehicles not far away, his brows tightly furrowed.
A few days ago, in a moment of emotional agitation, he did indeed cause George a lot of trouble, but he absolutely did not resort to underhanded tactics to frame George, nor did he wish to see him disgraced and expelled from the legal profession.
He wasn't that despicable, and he would never use such means against George. Everything he did to George was aboveboard, without any underhanded behavior.
George misunderstood him and angrily came to fight him, but he didn't explain. Instead, he had a good fight with George.
He hadn't started this whole mess, and if George wanted to misunderstand, so be it. Seb figured the truth would come out eventually.
He'd expected Susan to come to him, confident she wouldn't believe he was behind it.
But to his disappointment, Susan unhesitatingly believed he had framed George and even acted protectively towards George. He was both jealous and angry. If it weren't for Susan's frail health, he would have lost his temper long ago.
Facing Susan's relentless questioning, Seb reluctantly agreed to clear George's name, but he felt a pang of sadness, unable to bring himself to tell her the truth. The bitterness in his heart was his alone to bear.
After venting his frustration on the basketball, he was finally exhausted, having drained all his energy, hoping it would alleviate his inner turmoil.
In the following two days, although Seb didn't visit the hospital, Susan received very meticulous and thoughtful care.
Every day, three meals were delivered by someone, and the food was not only exquisite but also very nutritious.
Almost every meal included a nourishing soup, and a nurse brought Susan the daily necessities she needed.
Although Susan found the hospital stay very boring, she had promised Seb, and she couldn't break her word. She was afraid that if she left the hospital, Seb might not keep his promise to her.
After two days in the hospital, Susan felt much better. During these two days, she either ate or slept and forced herself not to think about anything.
In these two days, she felt that a carefree life was quite good.
That morning, the door to the ward suddenly opened!
Susan looked up and saw Leon pushing Isabella, who was in a wheelchair, into the ward.
The sight of Isabella, especially being pushed by Leon, surprised and delighted Susan. "Isabella! What brings you here?"
Isabella, being impatient, didn't answer Susan's question but loudly said, "Why are you in the hospital again?"
"Aren't we both the same?" Susan said, curling her lips.
Hearing this, Isabella frowned and then impatiently said to Leon, who was pushing her, "Push me to the bedside. How can we talk from so far away?"
Isabella's impatience immediately elicited a sarcastic retort from Leon. "Hey, I'm only bringing you here for Ms. Wilson's sake. I'm not your servant. Why are you yelling at me?"
"I didn't beg you to bring me here. You agreed to it yourself," Isabella retorted, unwilling to back down.
"I don't owe you anything," Leon said, not even bothering to argue with Isabella.
"I..." Isabella was about to continue.
"Can you two stop arguing? You're giving me a headache!" At this moment, seeing them bickering, Susan quickly held her head.
Sure enough, this tactic worked. Isabella and Leon both fell silent.
Leon quickly pushed Isabella over, and Isabella, concerned, stared at Susan. "We won't argue anymore. You can't faint again."
Susan helplessly shook her head. Isabella was just like that—loud and straightforward.
At this moment, Leon said, "I'll leave now. You two chat."
"Alright," Susan nodded.
As Leon reached the door, Isabella called out, "Hey, don't forget to pick me up tonight!"
Leon paused, a slight smile tugging at his lips, but he quickly suppressed it and turned to say, "We have no relationship. I have no obligation to follow your orders. If you need my help, you should be more polite, okay?"
Hearing this, Isabella couldn't argue and glared at Leon. "Fine, can you come by tonight to take me home?"
"That's more like it," Leon said and then left.
After Leon left, Isabella began to complain softly.
Seeing their interaction, Susan couldn't help but laugh. "You two are practically flirting!"
Hearing this, Isabella blushed and retorted, "Who's flirting with him? Spare me, please."
Susan just smiled. "I feel like you both enjoy it."
"Enjoy it? We argue every time we see each other. If I ever ended up with him, I'd probably die of annoyance," Isabella grumbled.
Susan knew that no matter what she said, Isabella wouldn't admit it, so she changed the subject. "With your leg like this, you didn't have to come see me. I'm doing fine here."
"Leon said you have someone taking care of you and that you eat well every meal, but I just couldn't rest easy without seeing you. By the way, Seb still has some conscience, knowing to take good care of you," Isabella said.
Hearing her mention Seb, Susan fell silent.
Seeing Susan not speaking, Isabella quickly touched her own mouth. "Did I say something wrong again?"
"No," Susan shook her head.
At this moment, Isabella's phone rang.
The next moment, Isabella quickly answered the call. "An invitation? For me? I'm at the hospital right now, and I'm not leaving. How about you bring the invitation here? The hospital address is..."
After speaking, Isabella hung up the phone.
