Chapter 1089 Stunning
After getting dressed and preparing to go downstairs, Cecilia suddenly remembered something and turned back. She walked to the bedside table, opened the drawer, and took out the blue velvet box.
When the velvet box was opened, it revealed the lily-shaped brooch lying quietly inside.
Cecilia took out the brooch, and then pinned it to the left side of her dress.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Cecilia felt she looked elegant and beautiful, then turned and went downstairs.
As Cecilia reached the last few steps, she suddenly saw Daryl standing in the living room.
Seeing Daryl, Cecilia was momentarily stunned. To be honest, she had been wondering if he would come back, and now here he was.
Cecilia paused, and Daryl's gaze fell on her.
Seeing Cecilia in a red dress, Daryl's eyes lit up.
Tonight, she looked stunning. The fitted dress accentuated her figure perfectly, and her waterfall-like ponytail added a youthful vitality to her sexy outfit.
The red dress and silver high heels made Cecilia look like a different person, her face full of youth, vigor, and intellectual beauty.
Seeing Cecilia in front of him, Daryl tightened his grip on his briefcase.
Actually, Cecilia felt a bit awkward in this outfit; she had never dressed like this before, nor worn such high-end clothes.
Meeting Daryl's gaze, Cecilia's face inexplicably blushed. She reached up to touch her hair and then walked over to Daryl.
"You're back?" Cecilia reached out and took the briefcase from Daryl's hand.
"Yeah." Daryl nodded, seemingly a bit unaccustomed to Cecilia's compliance.
The next moment, Daryl took off his suit jacket, and Cecilia quickly took it and turned to hang it on the coat rack.
When she turned back, she suddenly saw Daryl's probing eyes. Cecilia lowered her head and said, "Dinner is ready."
After saying that, Cecilia turned to walk towards the dining room.
But the next moment, Cecilia felt a tight grip on her wrist.
Looking up, she saw Daryl staring intently at her and asked, "What do you mean?"
Hearing this, Cecilia was a bit puzzled. "What?"
Daryl glanced at the dinner table and then at Cecilia's clothes, saying, "Didn't you say you wouldn't wear the clothes I bought for you?"
Hearing this, Cecilia pursed her lips, met Daryl's gaze, and said, "You said that after I left, you wouldn't keep these clothes for the next person. Since that's the case, it would be a waste, so I thought I might as well wear them."
Hearing this, Daryl scrutinized Cecilia carefully, noticing that her expression was calm and not at all resentful, her gaze steady, completely different from her usual self.
The next moment, Daryl released Cecilia's wrist.
"Is there a problem?" Cecilia asked, frowning.
"No, it's fine." Daryl nodded, though only he knew he felt a bit lost.
"Dinner is ready." Cecilia smiled at Daryl, then turned and walked into the dining room.
Daryl walked into the dining room and saw Cecilia setting the table and pouring red wine for both of them. There was also a bouquet of roses on the table, making the atmosphere warm and romantic.
Sitting at the dining table, Daryl found himself unable to understand Cecilia.
Noticing Daryl's puzzled look, Cecilia suddenly smiled and said, "Are you confused? Because I've had some new insights these past few days."
"What insights?" Daryl asked, staring at Cecilia.
Cecilia lowered her head and smiled. "Meeting is fate. You and I are actually fated. At the very least, we used to admire each other. If you hated me, you wouldn't have spent so much money for me to live with you for a year, right? Now we have a contractual relationship. I have a responsibility to make you happy, not to anger you, and to take good care of your daily life. Don't you think so?"
Hearing this, Daryl's brows furrowed tightly.
After a while, Cecilia continued, "Actually, I should thank you. If it weren't for your $104,000 solving my urgent needs, I would be in a bad situation now. So I should comply with you, not anger you. Besides, angering you does me no good. Since that's the case, why don't we get along well for the next nine months? That way, you get your money's worth, I maintain my professional ethics, and our moods won't be too bad. Don't you think so?"
This was actually what Cecilia had been thinking about for the past few days. Given the situation, she could only go with the flow. Moreover, the Daryl in front of her was someone she had loved before. The unfortunate part was that she still loved him, but she knew there was no future with him.
However, these words made Daryl feel uncomfortable.
After hesitating for a while, Daryl sneered. "It seems you've let go of your pride. That's good, I'm very pleased."
After saying that, Daryl picked up his wine glass and drank the red wine in one gulp.
Hearing Daryl's words, Cecilia didn't get angry this time. Instead, she pursed her lips slightly, her tone filled with helplessness and sadness. "Pride is not something a girl living at the bottom can afford to indulge in, so it's better for me to abandon it."
After saying that, Cecilia also took a big sip of the red wine in her glass.
"Try the steak I cooked." Cecilia then smiled.
Daryl took a bite of the steak, still somewhat distracted. Maybe he couldn't accept Cecilia's change, or maybe he didn't like her change at all because this version of her wasn't her.
That night, Daryl drank a lot of red wine and ended up a bit tipsy.
Cecilia, however, didn't act willfully and only drank one glass, which already made her a bit dizzy.
After dinner, Cecilia said with concern, "You should go upstairs and rest. I'll clean up here."
Then, Daryl got up and staggered upstairs.
After Daryl left, Cecilia finally relaxed, holding her forehead with her hand.
She didn't want to become like this, and she didn't want to end up with no dignity at all.
But she had no choice and needed to move on. From now on, the only thing she could hold onto was the memories of this time with him.
Thinking of this, Cecilia's eyes quickly filled with tears.
However, she didn't want to let the tears fall. She looked up at the ceiling, forcing the tears back into her eyes. Perhaps the only thing left in her character was that bit of strength.
By the time Cecilia had cleaned up all the leftovers, it was already more than half an hour later.
