Chapter 1157 Heart-Wrenching Pain

The night outside was deep, and the light in the ward was soft.

On the white hospital bed lay a woman with long hair, her face pale and eyes tightly shut, evoking a sense of pity.

Daryl sat by the bedside, his deep eyes fixed on Cecilia, holding her hand and placing it against his cheek.

After a night had passed, just as dawn broke, a nurse came to check on the patients.

"Ms. Thorne has passed the critical period. After a week in the hospital, she can go home to recuperate. Remember, she needs to stay in bed for half a month and rest for a month before returning to work," The nurse said before leaving the ward.

Daryl stood by the bed, gazing at the still-sleeping Cecilia for a long time. Finally, he reluctantly brushed her cheek with the back of his hand before turning to leave the ward.

Once in the car, Daryl's eyes turned cold as he said, "I think that what happened to Cecilia this time isn't simple. Spare no expense to investigate. I need to know who is behind this!"

Douglas, who was driving, nodded. "Yes."

The car then disappeared from the front of the hospital in the early morning.

Meanwhile, Skylar was sitting in her bedroom, holding a glass of red wine.

As the golden morning sunlight filtered through the window, Charlotte pushed the door open and walked in.

"Skylar, why aren't you downstairs for breakfast yet?" Charlotte asked, then noticed Skylar sitting by the bed in her pajamas, with a nearly empty glass of red wine.

Charlotte frowned and said, "Skylar, why are you drinking so early in the morning? It's not good for your health.!"

Charlotte stepped forward and took the wine glass from Skylar's hand.

Skylar, instead of getting angry, cheerfully said, "Mom, this is a celebratory drink."

"What do you mean?" Charlotte asked suspiciously, looking at Skylar.

Skylar then said, "Mom, Cecilia's child is gone, and she might not be able to have children in the future."

Hearing this, Charlotte was stunned for a moment, then said, "That's really good news. A woman who can't have children will be easy to handle, even if Daryl likes her."

Skylar sneered. "She just wanted to use the child to tie Daryl down. I've had someone following Daryl for a long time. Ever since Daryl broke off the engagement with me, he hasn't gone to see her!"

"Did he go when she had the miscarriage?" Charlotte asked.

Skylar said, "He did, but he left as soon as she passed the critical period. I think he's given up on her."

"Don't speak too soon. Let's wait and see. Your father is currently working with several groups that have grudges against Fields Group to put pressure on them. Let's see how long Daryl can hold out," Charlotte said.

Hearing this, Skylar said, "Mom, tell Dad to scare them a bit, but don't push too hard!"

"We're doing this for you," Charlotte said, looking at Skylar with a hint of complaint.

"I know you and Dad love me the most," Skylar said, hugging Charlotte's arm and acting spoiled.

Cecilia felt like she had been sleeping for a long time, feeling utterly exhausted.

Struggling to open her heavy eyelids, she saw a sea of white, and realized she was in the hospital again.

Looking around, she saw Freya sitting by her bed, dozing off with her head propped on one hand.

Cecilia's brows furrowed as she recalled what had happened before she fainted.

She had been hit by a boy on a bicycle.

Thinking of this, Cecilia hurriedly touched her abdomen.

Feeling it was flat, Cecilia was shocked. 'Where is my child? My belly has clearly been protruding.'

The next moment, Cecilia sat up abruptly.

"Where's my child?" Cecilia cried, staring at her belly, tears streaming down her face.

Hearing Cecilia's voice, Freya was awakened.

Seeing Cecilia's emotional state, Freya quickly stepped forward and held Cecilia's shoulders. "Ms. Thorne, please calm down!"

Seeing Freya, Cecilia grabbed her arm and urgently asked, "Freya, where's my child?"

Cecilia's voice was loud and heart-wrenching.

Freya had no choice but to tell her, "Ms. Thorne, your child was lost."

Hearing this, Cecilia shook her head frantically. "No, that's impossible. My child was fine. How could I have lost it?"

This child was her entire hope. She had developed a deep bond with it. How could it be gone just like that?

"Your child was really lost, Ms. Thorne. Please don't be too sad; it's not good for your health!"Sensing Cecilia's heart-wrenching pain, Freya didn't know how to comfort her.

Cecilia then began to cry bitterly.

She couldn't accept the fact that her child was gone, thinking, 'The baby has been fine, still moving in my womb. How could it be gone?'

For the next two days, Cecilia lay in bed, staring blankly, refusing to eat or drink, no matter how much Freya tried to persuade her.

At the Fields Group CEO's Office, Daryl sat at his large desk, buried in paperwork, occasionally making internal calls to arrange work.

After finally handling all the urgent matters, Daryl stood up, stretched, and saw Douglas standing at the door, looking hesitant.

Daryl frowned and asked, "Douglas, what's wrong?"

Hearing Daryl call him, Douglas quickly walked over and said, "Mr. Fields, Ms. Thorne knows her child is gone. She's very emotional and hasn't eaten or drunk anything for two days."

Hearing this, Daryl frowned deeply. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I..." Douglas began, but Daryl had already turned and quickly walked out of the office.

"Mr. Fields," Douglas called out, seeing Daryl leave in just his shirt. He quickly grabbed Daryl's jacket and chased after him.

Douglas opened the car door for Daryl, who got into the back seat. After Douglas got into the driver's seat, Daryl said, "To the hospital."

Hearing this, Douglas frowned and said, "Mr. Fields, weren't you trying to avoid suspicion? The people from the Tate Family are probably still following you."

Daryl hesitated for a moment, then said, "I want them to see me go to the hospital. Don't hide it; go to the hospital openly."

"Well..." Douglas didn't understand Daryl's intention.

Daryl said, "Just do as I say."

"Yes," Douglas replied, and the car headed straight for the hospital.
