Chapter 303 At a Loss

Susan, like she was holding a hot potato, tossed the clothes back to Isabella and griped, "What the heck did you buy? These clothes are either way too sexy or so revealing. I can't even look at them."

Isabella shot back, "I'm over thirty, alright? If I don't dress like this, I'll never get married."

"Dressing like this is just gonna lower your standards for finding a guy," Susan said, trying to be all serious.

Isabella just shrugged, eyeing the red dress in her hand. "Guys these days are all about sexy women."

"Then you go be sexy. I'll see if there's anything else I can wear," Susan said, shaking her head and digging through the closet.

Watching Susan struggle to find a decent dress for the charity gala, Isabella chimed in, "Have you forgotten how we've been living these past few years? We're barely scraping by. Where would we get the cash for an evening gown?"

Susan had to admit she was right. She remembered having a couple of party dresses from a few years back, but after having kids, they were way too tight now. But if she wore her everyday clothes, she may not even be allowed to enter. This really made her anxious.

Then Isabella laughed and said, "What about the wedding dress you wore last time and the bridesmaid dress I wore? Wanna give them a shot?"

Isabella opened the other side of the closet, revealing the wedding dress George had splurged on for Susan.

Seeing the wedding dress brought back a flood of memories, and Susan felt a wave of emotion.

In the past few months, George had totally vanished from her life. He hadn't come to see her or visited Spring. Thinking of George made Susan's heart ache.

So, Susan stepped forward and shut the closet door, joking, "If I show up in a wedding dress at the charity gala, people will think I'm insane!"

"So you have no choice," Isabella said, tossing the nude-colored gown into Susan's arms.

At this point, Susan had no choice but to roll with it. She figured it was still better than the backless dress Isabella was holding.

By 7:30 PM, Susan and Isabella grabbed their invitation and headed to the Hilton Hotel.

As soon as they walked in, they two caught the eyes of a bunch of guys.

Even though they weren't drop-dead gorgeous, they were definitely attractive, especially with their curvy figures. With their killer makeup and sexy outfits, they stood out among the other women.

They strolled over to the long table loaded with food. Susan glanced around and saw that the charity gala was super fancy, with flowers, food, and drinks everywhere. There were even a few media outlets filming with cameras.

Over a hundred people had already shown up, and the place was packed with dudes in suits. Susan could smell perfume everywhere. She felt all kinds of awkward in her outfit and reached up to adjust her top.

Isabella leaned in and whispered, "Can you try to act more natural?"

"What's unnatural about me?" Susan was actually pretty nervous. She'd never worn something this daring before. She'd regretted it in the taxi earlier, thinking she should've bought another dress. But now it was too late.

"You're totally unnatural!" Isabella said.

Susan straightened up, thinking, 'Every woman here is showing a bit. It's not just me. Besides, I don't have a man to mind this. If it were before, Seb would've dragged me home dressed like this.'

Damn, why did she suddenly think of Seb? Susan told herself to stop thinking about Seb!

"Is Dominic here yet?" Susan's eyes eagerly scanned the crowd.

Earlier in the taxi, they had checked out Dominic's photos on their phones, memorizing his looks. Susan had never been this careful when she looked at Seb.

Damn, why did she think of Seb again? Susan cursed inwardly.

"He shouldn't be here yet. I don't see any bald guys," Isabella said, also looking around.

Dominic was bald, which made him easy to spot.

At that moment, Susan's eyes were scanning the crowd. She didn't find the bald Dominic but saw a familiar, cold face in the crowd.

When she saw Seb, Susan's heart skipped a beat!

Why was Seb here? What a coincidence!

But thinking about it, it made sense. This charity gala was a big deal in Maple Valley, and almost all the big shots were here. Naturally, Seb would be here too.

Seb stood in the crowd, chatting with a few guys. He held a glass of red wine, his face stern, his features sharp, and there was a hint of sadness in his eyes.

From a distance, looking at Seb, Susan felt a pang of sadness. Seb was much thinner than before and seemed even colder.

Honestly, after not seeing him for a few months, suddenly running into him here made Susan's heart race. But she knew that she and Seb were absolutely done.

At that moment, Seb seemed to notice her. His sharp eyes met Susan's.

Susan felt a sting in her eyes and quickly looked down, avoiding Seb's gaze.

For a moment, she was at a loss. She reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear, not knowing what to do with her hands.

In fact, from the moment Susan and Isabella stepped into the ballroom, Seb had already noticed her.

Susan's outfit today made him furious, so his face stayed stiff.

Seb's eyes lingered on Susan's graceful curves for a long time, then shifted to the men who were staring at her. At that moment, Seb's eyes were as cold as ice. If looks could kill, those men would've dropped dead.

Just then, Isabella nudged Susan's hand.

"Susan, Dominic is here!" Isabella whispered excitedly.

Hearing this, Susan was thrilled and immediately looked towards the entrance of the ballroom.
