Chapter 466 Sulking
Seb was fuming, but he kept his cool and didn't blow up at Susan.
He spun around, yanked open the wardrobe, grabbed a suitcase, and started chucking clothes into it.
Susan's brow furrowed as she watched him. "What the heck are you doing? Running away from home?"
Without a word, Seb tossed his toiletries into the suitcase and said, "I'm not a kid. I'm going on a business trip."
Susan's eyes widened. "A business trip? For what? Where to?"
By now, Seb had zipped up the suitcase. He picked it up and said, "I was supposed to go a few days ago, but my folks were here. They pushed me to go today 'cause there's a project waiting for my green light."
Susan freaked out!
She forgot all the earlier drama and, in a panic, threw herself at him, hugging his waist. "No way, you're not going!"
Seb looked down at her clinging to him and said coldly, "Susan, it's work."
"No, you're just pissed," Susan shot back stubbornly.
Seb hesitated, then frowned. "Yeah, my mom gave me this box of pills she found in your room. You're almost out of them. Do you know how I felt when I saw that?"
Susan looked up, meeting his pained gaze.
"I've always wanted to give Hayden and Spring a little sibling, but I never told you. I didn't expect you to be on birth control all this time. You always talk about respect in a relationship, but where's your respect for me?" Seb's voice was calm, just laying it out there.
"Seb, let me explain," Susan pleaded, knowing she'd hurt him but having her reasons.
"What's there to explain? Even though we patched things up, you still don't trust me," Seb said, looking at her.
"It's not what you think," Susan said, desperate.
"I know; I messed up before. Maybe we both need to chill. Otherwise, we'll keep fighting. So, I'll go on this trip. I'll be back in a few days, and we can talk calmly then," Seb said, sounding resigned.
"Seb, don't go. I swear I won't argue this time, okay? You can't leave me alone with your parents." Deep down, Susan was terrified.
With Seb around, she and Carol could keep it civil. If he left, who knew what would happen?
"Don't worry about my mom. I've talked to her. This is our issue to sort out. She'll tolerate you till I get back. Also, I told her you're going back to work tomorrow. Try to leave early and come back late to avoid her," Seb said. Then, he gently pried Susan's arms off his waist, gave her a long look, and walked out with his suitcase.
Susan stared at the pillbox on the bed, feeling totally bummed out. Today was like a rollercoaster. He was all lovey-dovey during the day, but by night, they were at each other's throats.
She plopped down on the edge of the bed. Hearing the car engine rev up outside, she knew Leon had already driven him away.
Carol's sneaky tactics had worked. With just one move, she had stirred up a fight between her and Seb, and now he was off on a business trip. Susan realized she couldn't underestimate Carol anymore. The woman could definitely stir up more trouble between her and Seb.
The next morning, Susan headed downstairs with her bag.
It was already late. Todd had taken Spring for a walk, and Kathy had taken Hayden to preschool.
As soon as Susan hit the bottom of the stairs, she locked eyes with Carol, who was lounging on the sofa.
Carol's eyes were gleaming with satisfaction, a smug smile plastered on her face. She was clearly thrilled to have seen them argue, and she was the mastermind behind it. She must be feeling pretty proud of herself.
Seeing that no one else was around, Susan decided to drop the niceties.
"Seb and I had a fight. Bet you're over the moon, huh?" Susan walked up and said.
Carol wiped the smile off her face and put on a fake look of surprise. "What are you talking about? Of course, I don't want you and Seb to fight. I want our family to be peaceful and happy!"
Susan wasn't about to play along with Carol's act. She took a deep breath and said, "Do you want Seb and me to break up?"
Carol gave Susan a sideways glance. "Think whatever you want. I promised Seb I wouldn't argue with you or make things hard for you while he's on his business trip. We'll sort everything out when he gets back."
With that, Carol turned on the TV and started munching on some nuts.
Seeing her attitude, Susan turned and left.
From that day on, Susan started leaving early and coming back late, doing her best to dodge Carol.
Susan was super frustrated. This wasn't the married life she had signed up for.
For three days, Seb didn't reach out, and she stubbornly didn't contact him either. They were in a full-on cold war.
One morning, Susan woke up a bit late and saw Kathy taking Hayden to preschool, so she decided to take him herself.
After dropping Hayden off, she realized she had left her phone at home. Even though she didn't want to go back, she had to because people needed to reach her. So, she reluctantly headed back to get her phone.
Susan stepped into the foyer and, while changing her shoes, heard Carol's voice from inside. "Kathy, bring me a plate of washed grapes!"
Susan frowned. Carol probably thought it was Kathy coming back from grocery shopping.
After slipping into her house shoes, Susan hesitated for a moment but then walked into the kitchen. After all, Carol was an elder, and washing a plate of grapes wasn't too much to ask.
While Susan was washing the grapes in the kitchen, she heard Carol talking to someone.
Susan frowned and listened for a few moments, realizing that Carol was on a video call.
Some of the grapes were bad, so Susan picked them out while listening to Carol's voice. "Rylee, Seb went on a business trip. He had a fight with that woman!"
