Chapter 844 Memories
When Susan heard that, her heart ached like never before.
Seb and Susan were walking side by side, taking their time along the roadside.
After what felt like forever, Susan finally looked up at Seb and asked, "So, if that's true, why'd you lie to her today? Why'd you come out here with me?"
As another woman started to take over the heart of the man she loved, Susan felt the sting of it all.
By now, the sunset had faded, leaving just a faint glow. Seb glanced at Susan's face under the night sky, hesitated a bit, and then spilled his thoughts, "Because you make me feel something special, something familiar and comforting. I just want to spend more time with you. I also want to know about our past."
"Really?" Susan's face lit up, tears of joy filling her eyes.
All her efforts hadn't been for nothing. He wasn't completely indifferent to her.
Seb nodded but then frowned, "But I feel kinda guilty towards Ellie. I don't want to deceive her, but I also need to respect my own feelings."
Hearing this, Susan quickly said, "Don't worry, I won't let you do anything to betray Ellie with me. At least not until you remember the past. I promise I won't hurt Ellie!"
Seeing Susan's anxious face, Seb smiled.
Just then, the last bit of sunset disappeared, and the streetlights flickered on.
The streetlights lit up, showing the wide road ahead.
Looking up, the brightness seemed endless.
"You think I'd do something with you? To be honest, I do have some self-control," Seb suddenly said.
Susan's face turned red at that.
Seeing her blush, Seb smirked, "You're kinda strange, you know that?"
"What's strange about me?" Susan asked.
Seb thought for a moment, "Sometimes you're super bold, doing all sorts of daring stuff; other times, you're really shy, blushing at the smallest thing."
Susan laughed, "You used to say the same thing to me."
"Really?" Seb stopped in his tracks, staring at Susan in surprise.
Susan replied naturally, "Isn't that normal? It means my personality hasn't changed, and your judgment hasn't either. It's just your memory that's the problem."
Seb lowered his head, thinking for a moment, "Logically, that makes sense."
"Tell me how we met," Seb suddenly asked as they walked.
Susan furrowed her brows, unsure of what to say.
Seeing her troubled look, Seb laughed, "Is it that hard to talk about?"
"It is kinda hard to talk about." Susan lowered her head.
Seb pressed on, "Did we really sleep together the first time we met?"
Ellie had told him that, and for some reason, Seb really wanted to confirm it today.
"Yeah, we did!" Susan finished the sentence.
But after saying it, Susan's face turned red again. She brushed her hair behind her ear and looked away at the distant scenery.
This was something they used to joke about a lot. Susan had long since stopped taking it seriously.
But today, since he brought it up, she couldn't lie to him. She had to tell the truth for him to maybe remember the past.
However, to Susan, Seb was almost a stranger at this moment. The fact that they had sex the first time they met did lower her personal charm.
Even though Seb had heard this from Ellie, he was still a bit shocked.
"It was at the Hilton Hotel," Susan added.
"That day with Dean..." Seb recalled the incident a few days ago when she had asked him for help.
"Yeah, there." Susan nodded.
But for some reason, whenever he thought of Dean, he wanted to punch him.
At this point, Susan didn't care about the awkwardness. As long as it helped him remember her, it was worth it.
"Do you remember what happened that night?" Susan suddenly stopped and looked at Seb with hope.
That night was something they had reminisced about countless times. It was one of the most memorable events between them. Susan couldn't believe he had no memory of it.
Seb looked at the distant streetlights, not saying a word.
Susan knew he didn't remember, but it didn't matter. She could tell him.
"That night, you were drunk, and so was I. I had just been dumped by Andrew, who left for college abroad with a rich girl. Years later, when Rylee brought Andrew in front of us, I realized that the rich girl was Rylee, your sister. I was afraid this would affect our relationship and upset Rylee, so I chose to keep it a secret. Andrew didn't want you to know either, which led to many complications later. It's the thing I regret the most," Susan said, looking at Seb.
"If you had told me back then, things might be different now," Seb said with deep regret in his voice.
"I'm sorry!" Susan apologized sincerely. She had always felt guilty about this.
"It's in the past. Apologizing won't change anything," Seb said, turning to look at Susan.
Susan didn't know if he meant he didn't blame her or that an apology was useless.
Then she smiled and said, "The morning after that night, I wanted to sneak away while you were in the shower, but I couldn't. You wanted to give me some money, probably afraid I'd cling to you. Of course, I couldn't accept that insult. Even though I was poor, I didn't want you to think of me as a gold digge. So I threw the only money I had in my wallet at you, saying it was your payment, and I insulted you quite a bit. You were so angry your face turned dark!"
Thinking of the past, Susan raised her chin, feeling amused and proud because she was the winner at their first encounter.
Seeing Susan's amused expression, Seb pursed his lips, feeling a bit embarrassed, and then curiously asked, "How did you insult me back then?"
