Chapter 131 Open Heart
Susan stared at Seb in shock.
She never imagined Cynthia had a serious illness. Cynthia always looked so put-together. Who would've guessed she had severe asthma? Everyone had their own struggles, it seemed. At least Susan was healthy.
"So, you've been taking care of her all this time?" Susan asked.
Seb nodded. "Yeah, she's not in great health and her finances are rough. I rented a place for her, and Kathy's been looking after her. It's all I can do; I can't save her with my feelings."
Susan felt a mix of emotions. Seb was loyal and caring, but why hadn't he told her this before? Was he avoiding his feelings for her?
Susan started pounding on Seb's chest. "Why are you only telling me now? Do you know how Cynthia flaunted herself in front of me? She said you loved her and only married me because of the baby."
Seb let her vent until she was tired, then pulled her into his arms. "I'm sorry, Susan. It's my fault. Cynthia and I had a past, but that's over. Ever since I met you, there was something special about you. I always wanted to see you, even if we argued. It became part of my life."
Susan looked up at him, smiling.
"What are you smiling at?" Seb asked, pinching her chin.
"I didn't know you could be so sweet. I've never heard you talk like this," Susan said, her smile bright despite her earlier tears.
"Depends if I want to be sweet or not," Seb said, glancing at the ceiling.
"So you didn't want to sweet-talk me before?" Susan tried to push him away.
Seb grabbed her waist. "I did, but you never gave me the chance!"
"Bullshit!" Susan tried to hit him.
Seb caught her hand and leaned down to kiss her. This kiss was gentle and filled with affection.
Susan didn't expect happiness to come so quickly. One moment she was feeling sorry for herself, and the next, she was in Seb's arms. They loved each other, without the doubts and complaints of the past. She never thought she could win his love!
As things heated up between them, Susan quickly pushed Seb away, both of them breathless.
"What's wrong?" Seb asked, his voice hoarse.
"My period hasn't ended yet," Susan said shyly.
Seb touched his nose and asked, "How many more days?"
"About three," Susan replied with a smile.
"Alright," Seb said, furrowing his brows but smirking.
Susan pushed him away and looked out the window. The city lights were on. "You must be hungry, right?"
"Starving," Seb said, stepping forward to hug her again.
"I'll make dinner. Stop messing around," Susan said, struggling to push him away and heading to the kitchen.
As she took out ingredients, Susan felt her face burning. Today felt like a dream, but she was genuinely happy. All her past darkness and sorrow seemed to vanish, replaced by joy.
While chopping vegetables, Seb's arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Susan laughed, "Go watch some TV. Dinner will be ready soon."
But Seb refused to leave. "I'd rather watch you."
Susan smiled, then turned around with the knife in her hand, waving it at Seb.
"Planning to murder me?" Seb teased, not dodging.
"I'm warning you, no more flirting with Cynthia or any woman. Got it? If I catch you, I'll chop you into pieces!" Susan threatened, waving the knife.
"I wouldn't dare. I won't flirt with any female, not even a cat!" Seb raised his hands in surrender.
Satisfied, Susan added, "And no more private meetings with Cynthia!"
"Alright! If I have to meet her, you'll be there. Deal?" Seb said, his eyes twinkling.
"That's more like it!" Susan said, raising her chin before turning back to cooking.
Seb leaned against the kitchen doorframe, watching her bustle around. The small kitchen was dimly lit but filled with warmth and happiness.
After dinner, they cuddled on the sofa, watching TV. Susan occasionally fed Seb a grape.
"What are your plans for the future?" Seb asked, eyes on the TV.
Susan, eating a grape, replied, "The CPA exam is just over a month away. I want to focus on that and not job hunt right now. I hope I can pass this time."
"Very ambitious!" Seb nodded.
Susan picked up the bank card from the coffee table and smiled, "With this compensation money, I can live worry-free for a while. Once I get my CPA certificate, it'll be easier to find a job, and the salary will be higher."
"I fully support you," Seb said, trying to please her.
"How will you support me?" Susan asked, her eyes sparkling.
"How do you want me to support you? Emotionally, materially, or even physically, I'm all in," Seb said, leaning in and trapping her on the sofa.
Susan wasn't scared by his actions because she knew he wouldn't dare touch her while she was on her period. So she boldly hooked her arms around his neck and initiated a kiss.
