Chapter 925 He Owes Me

Seeing Leon storm out, Maria tiptoed into the bedroom.

"Isabella, I put all your stuff back where it belongs. Need anything else? The office is just the receptionist right now, and I'm worried about missing clients," Maria said with a smile.

Isabella quickly replied, "Maria, you should head back. With both Susan and me out, the office can't run without you."

"Alright, I'll head out then. I'll check on you after work," Maria said, smiling before she left.

After Maria left, Isabella sat on the bed, frowning.

When she saw Leon at the hospital entrance earlier, she was surprised but also a bit excited.

She thought Leon had been ignoring her these past few days, but it turned out he had been keeping tabs on her, even knowing exactly when she'd be discharged.

But then Leon said something that killed her mood. He mentioned he was only there because of Susan.

Isabella felt really sad, thinking, 'Does he not care about me at all? Am I not in his heart?'

While Isabella was lost in thought, the caregiver was cleaning outside.

Around noon, the caregiver walked into the bedroom with a smile and said, "Ms. Brown, what would you like for lunch? We've got all kinds of ingredients at home, so feel free to ask. I can make anything."

Isabella frowned and asked, "We have all kinds of ingredients at home?"

Usually, it was just her at home, so the fridge only had some eggs and pasta. She usually ate out.

The caregiver smiled and said, "Mr. Johnson bought a lot of meat, veggies, and supplements, saying I should make soup for you to help your bones heal faster!"

Hearing this, Isabella pursed her lips. She thought, 'It must be Susan who asked Leon to take care of me, right?'

The caregiver then smiled and said, "Ms. Brown, is Mr. Johnson your boyfriend? Wow, you’re really lucky to have him! He's such a great guy and so thoughtful. Even though he's super busy with work and can't visit often, he still makes sure you're taken care of. He always checks in with me to make sure I make soup for you, keep you from moving around too much, and get you plenty of fresh veggies and fruit. You've got a keeper there, Ms. Brown!"

Isabella forced a smile and said, "You're mistaken. Leon is not my boyfriend. He's just a subordinate of my best friend's ex-husband."

The caregiver was stunned. "A subordinate of your best friend's ex-husband? That's a bit complicated."

"Just make something simple for me. Nothing too complicated. I don't have much of an appetite," Isabella said.

"Okay," The caregiver said, sensing Isabella wasn't in high spirits, and quickly went to the kitchen to cook.

Listening to the sounds of cooking from the kitchen, Isabella turned and lay down on the bed.

Leon was thorough in everything he did, which was why he could be Seb's trusted subordinate. Susan had entrusted him with the task, and he naturally tried his best to do it well.

If Isabella had been touched by Leon earlier, now all her gratitude was directed towards Susan.

Three days later, Isabella learned to walk with crutches.

Isabella knew her leg injury would take a couple of months to heal, so she decided to dismiss the caregiver. The daily wage wasn't cheap, and she didn't really need the help, plus it felt like a waste of money.

When the caregiver heard Isabella's decision, she looked distressed and said, "Ms. Brown, if I'm doing anything wrong, please tell me and I'll fix it. Please don't fire me. Honestly, this job pays twice as much as others, and my family really needs the money. Jobs like this are hard to find. Plus, you don’t have to pay me; Mr. Johnson covers my salary. Please let me stay and take care of you. You're not in any shape to go out, and Mr. Johnson is too busy to be here. You need someone around."

The caregiver's words left Isabella, who was usually quick-tempered, at a loss for words. She could only say, "In fact, my friend is paying you to take care of me, which makes me feel very uncomfortable. How about this, let me discuss it with my friend first?"

"Okay, I'll go make lunch now," the caregiver said, seeing a glimmer of hope, and quickly went to the kitchen.

Since then, the caregiver worked even harder, taking extra good care of Isabella, almost to the point of flattery.

Isabella knew it was good to have someone take care of her, but she didn't want Susan to spend so much money, nor did she want Susan to owe Seb any favors because of her, especially since they were already divorced.

One day, Isabella called Susan.

"Susan, how's your recovery?" Isabella asked with concern.

"Not bad. How about you?" Susan's voice still sounded weak.

"It's just a leg injury for me. I have someone taking care of me, and I've even gained two pounds!" The caregiver's cooking skills were quite good, especially with making various soups. Although Isabella didn't have much of an appetite, she hadn't been moving much these days, so she had indeed gained a bit of weight.

Hearing this, Susan quickly asked, "Is Leon taking care of you?"

Isabella's face turned a bit blush because Susan knew there was some ambiguity between her and Leon.

"He only did it because you asked him to. If you hadn't asked for his help, he wouldn't have been so kind," Isabella said.

Hearing this, Susan said, puzzled, "Don't dismiss Leon's kindness, okay? I didn't ask him to take care of you. He volunteered to do it! Besides, I hardly ever see Leon. When would I have had the chance to ask him to take care of you?"

At this moment, Isabella was stunned.

Leon hired a caregiver for her, picked her up from the hospital, and brought fresh food and supplements every few days, these were not because Susan asked him to.

At this moment, Isabella couldn't help but ask, "Wasn't it you who asked Leon to hire the caregiver for me? Didn't you arrange for him to pick me up from the hospital? And all the food and drinks, wasn't it you who asked him to buy them for me?"

Hearing Isabella's words, Susan laughed and said, "Isabella, I didn't expect Leon to do so much for you. Think about it, without anyone asking him, why would he do all this for you?"

At this moment, Isabella replied, "Because he feels he owes me!"

"What could Leon possibly owe you?" Susan asked with a laugh.
