Chapter 420 Hateful Man

A few days later, Susan's office door flew open, and in barged Isabella.

"Susan, Derek's here. Says he's got something urgent to talk about," Isabella blurted out as Derek rushed in.

Seeing Derek's grim face, Susan jumped up and told Isabella, "Quick, get some coffee."

But Derek, looking all defeated, said, "No need. Coffee's the last thing on my mind right now."

Susan frowned and asked, "Mr. Lopez, what's going on? Please have a seat and spill."

Derek plopped down on the guest sofa, rubbed his face, and said, "Ms. Wilson, why didn't you tell me you're Mr. Anderson's wife from Prosperity Group? If I'd known, I wouldn't have let you get drunk!"

Susan exchanged a confused look with Isabella and then said, "Mr. Lopez, I don't get it. Plus, I'm not Seb's wife anymore; I'm his ex-wife."

She never hid her ex-wife status, but she didn't go around broadcasting it either.

"That's not important. Now I've pissed off Mr. Anderson, and all my clients have stopped working with me. No one's buying our stuff, and no suppliers will give us raw materials!" Derek said, looking like he was about to cry.

Susan frowned. "Is it that bad? Are you sure it's Seb's doing?"

She took a deep breath. This kind of heavy-handed move was totally Seb's style.

"Isn't Seb overreacting? It was just a few drinks," Isabella started to say, but Susan shot her a look, and she shut up.

Derek went on, "I asked around, and it was Mr. Anderson who told everyone not to do business with me, or they'd lose his business. Prosperity Group's huge, so no one wants to cross him."

Susan felt a wave of annoyance.

What was Seb playing at? He was clearly trying to make her beg.

No way. She'd never beg him.

Derek looked at Susan with pleading eyes. "Ms. Wilson, please talk to Mr. Anderson. Don't make this hard for me. My company's small; we can't handle this."

Susan felt stuck. "I've been divorced from him for ages. I really can't help."

She wasn't about to give in. She knew Seb was trying to force her to come to him, but her pride wouldn't let her.

Seeing her reluctance, Derek stood up, bowing and crying. "Ms. Wilson, please, have mercy. My son's in grad school. If my company goes under, my family won't survive. Please, for the sake of the help I've given you before. I truly consider you a friend!"

Seeing Derek's tears, Susan's heart softened.

Isabella stepped forward and nudged Susan.

In this situation, Susan couldn't just let Derek suffer because of her, so she nodded. "Alright, I'll think of something."

"You gotta go see Mr. Anderson now. Our company makes food, and food's got a shelf life. We can't wait!" Derek said, all anxious.

"He's in the central district now. I'll have to wait for him to come back," Susan replied.

But Derek shot back, "I already checked. Mr. Anderson got back to Maple Valley yesterday. He's at Prosperity Group now. If you go there, you'll definitely find him!"

Derek handed Susan her handbag from the desk.

"He came back?" Susan asked, surprised.

He came back yesterday? Then why didn't he come home last night?

"Yeah," Derek confirmed with a nod.

With no other choice, Susan grabbed the handbag from Derek and left the office, hearing Derek's endless thanks behind her.

Standing in front of the Prosperity Group building, Susan took a deep breath and finally walked in.

She knew Prosperity Group like the back of her hand, but after a few years, stepping inside felt weird.

Entering the lobby and taking the elevator, she noticed that not much had changed, bringing back a flood of memories.

She had spent a chunk of her youth here, fighting tooth and nail.

Getting off the elevator, Susan kept her head down to avoid running into old colleagues and headed straight for the CEO's office.

"Miss, who are you looking for?" A young, pretty lady at the desk outside the CEO's office stood up when she saw Susan.

Susan noticed the previous secretary was gone. Seb had a new one, young and pretty—typical.

"I'm here to see Mr. Anderson," Susan said calmly, though she was a bundle of nerves inside.

The secretary smiled and asked, "Do you have an appointment?"

"No," Susan replied.

The secretary's smile stayed, but her tone was firm. "I'm sorry, but without an appointment, you can't see Mr. Anderson."

"I have something urgent to discuss with him. Please let him know," Susan insisted.

The secretary kept smiling but didn't budge. "I'm sorry, but our policy is strict. No appointment, no meeting. Mr. Anderson's schedule is packed."

Susan's face darkened.

Looking at the two dark red doors ahead, she steeled herself and barged in!

"Miss, you can't just barge in..." The secretary tried to stop her, but Susan had already pushed open one of the office doors and walked in.

"What's going on?" Seb, sitting at his desk, stood up when he saw Susan burst in.

"Mr. Anderson, this lady barged in. I couldn't stop her," the secretary said nervously.

Glancing at Susan, Seb instructed, "You may leave."

The secretary gave Susan a curious look, realizing Seb knew her, and then quietly left.

After the office door closed, the large office fell into silence.

"You must have something important to discuss today?" Seb turned and picked up a pack of cigarettes, but after a moment, he put it back.

"You know why I'm here?" Susan's tone was sharp.

She was right; Seb had used Derek's situation to lure her here.
