Chapter 818 Lost Contact
Hearing this, Susan's heart swelled with joy and emotion.
She spoke softly into the phone, "Seb, I miss you so much."
In the quiet of the night, hearing those words from someone he loved made every part of him feel at ease.
After everything they'd been through, Seb cherished every moment they had.
He murmured, "Susan, we’ll never be apart again."
Susan felt a rush of passion and echoed, "Never apart again."
"It's late, you should get some rest or you'll be airsick tomorrow," Seb finally said after a long pause.
Susan nodded and asked, "What are you up to?"
"I'm heading to the suburbs to check on a project, so I had some time to call you," Seb replied with a smile.
"Then hang up and get some rest in the car," Susan said, though she didn't want to end the call.
"Okay, you hang up first," Seb said.
"No, you hang up first!" Susan insisted.
Knowing he couldn't win, Seb chuckled and hung up.
After the call, Susan looked at her phone and kept smiling.
She then packed her luggage, checked her documents and belongings, and only after making sure everything was in order did she go to bed.
In the middle of the night, Susan was sleeping soundly when she was suddenly awakened by the howling wind and rain outside.
She opened her eyes to see lightning and hear the loud sound of rain, which was pretty scary.
Susan quickly turned on the light and looked outside, seeing the trees swaying wildly in the storm.
Worried about Hayden and Spring downstairs, she quickly threw on a robe and ran downstairs.
She knew Spring slept with Mary every night and would be fine, so she went straight to Hayden's room.
When she entered, she saw the light was already on, Hayden was sitting on the bed with a blanket, and Kathy was there keeping him company.
Seeing this, Susan felt relieved.
Mary then came in holding Spring.
"Why is it suddenly raining so hard? The wind is so strong, it's terrifying!" Mary complained.
Seeing that Spring seemed scared, Susan quickly took her into her arms. "Didn't the weather forecast say it would only be moderate rain?"
"This weather forecast is so off. It looks like a storm, and the wind is so strong it seems like the branches are breaking!" Mary said.
Isabella also heard the commotion and ran downstairs.
"Why is it suddenly raining so hard? Susan, will it affect your flight?" Isabella asked with a frown.
Susan looked up at the clock on the wall.
It was already 3 A.M, and her flight was scheduled for 9 A.M. If the storm didn't stop, the flight would definitely be delayed, making her worry.
Seeing Susan's worried expression, Isabella quickly said, "The weather forecast didn't issue a warning, so this storm should pass quickly and not affect your flight."
Susan nodded, hoping that would be the case.
However, the storm outside not only didn't stop but seemed to be getting worse.
Seeing everyone was up, Kathy smiled and said, "I'll make some soup for everyone."
"That sounds good," Susan nodded.
Just as Kathy was about to leave the room, a loud thunderclap boomed outside!
Instantly, the lights went out.
"Mommy!" Spring cried out in fear.
Susan quickly hugged Spring tightly. "Spring, don't be scared!"
"The power's out!" Kathy exclaimed.
"How could the power go out? We don't have any candles," Mary said, holding Hayden by the bed.
"Our phones have flashlights," Isabella said, quickly pulling out her phone and turning on the flashlight.
Soon, there was a bit of light in the room.
Outside, the lightning and thunder continued, and the storm grew even stronger.
By morning, the storm still showed no signs of stopping.
Not only was the power out, but all communications were down too.
Hayden and Spring naturally couldn't go to school. After being up half the night, the two were now asleep.
Susan, however, sat on the couch, worried. It seemed like today's flight would definitely be canceled.
She wanted to call Seb to let him know, but with all communications down, she was completely cut off from the outside world.
Seeing Susan looking despondent on the couch, Kathy walked over and said, "Ms. Wilson, you haven't eaten any breakfast. You should eat something."
Susan looked up and forced a smile. "Kathy, I'm not hungry."
Kathy turned to get busy.
Isabella sat down in front of Susan and said, "With this weather, you'll probably have to stay in Northstar City for a few more days."
"There's nothing I can do about such heavy rain," Susan said with a bitter smile.
Seeing her so down, Isabella patted her hand and said, "It's okay, you and Seb have plenty of time ahead. A few days' delay in reuniting is nothing. Actually, I find it quite interesting, like going back to the primitive times with no electricity, no internet, no cell signal, and even the natural gas is out. Luckily, we have some camping stoves to cook with!"
"We'll just have to live like primitive people for a few days," Susan said with a wry smile.
There was no choice; Susan had to stay in Northstar City.
The storm lasted for three days and nights, causing significant damage to Northstar City. Communications and the internet were down for five days.
Many large trees and simple houses outside were blown down by the storm, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
That morning, communications had just been restored, but the signal was still unstable.
Susan kept trying to call Seb's phone, but either the signal was unstable, or no one answered.
For some reason, Susan felt an inexplicable panic, sensing that something might have happened, but she couldn't pinpoint what it was, thinking it was just her nerves.
Seeing Susan sitting on the couch, tirelessly making calls, Isabella frowned and said, "Is the signal still unstable? Don't worry, try again later!"
"But I got through to Cecilia," Susan said, frowning.
"Well, yeah, but Cecilia's in Northstar City, too. International calls are a different animal," Isabella said, trying to calm her down.
Hearing this, Susan could only nod.
To distract herself from her anxiety, Susan got up to busy herself with other things, planning to try calling again later.
