Chapter 219 Sisterly Love and Hatred

That morning, Susan was playing with Spring in the living room when she heard the door lock turn.

As Catherine had recently departed for the grocery store, it was too soon for her to return. The door creaked open, but standing there was not Catherine.

A stylish woman in a pink lace dress, dripping with jewelry, walked in. Dorothy had changed; she looked mature now.

Susan was shocked to see Dorothy. Catherine had mentioned that Dorothy hardly ever dropped by and just checked in every now and then; she was taking care of the child every day at home with a nanny hired by Henry.

Despite the incident almost a year ago, Susan and Dorothy's relationship had hit rock bottom.

For nearly a year, they hadn't contacted each other directly, only through Catherine.

Catherine, unaware of their strained relationship, still thought they were close sisters.

"Dorothy, you're back?" Susan greeted her first.

Even though things were tense, Susan still saw Dorothy as her sister. They had been through a lot together. It was time to mend things.

Dorothy regarded Susan with disdain. Knowing that Susan was residing with Catherine, she wasn't surprised to see her holding Spring. It was evident that Catherine had filled her in on everything.

Dorothy walked to the coffee table, glanced at Spring, and sneered, "Susan, you haven't been back for over half a year, and now you come back with a child. Are you trying to give Mom a heart attack?"

Susan frowned. "Dorothy, why are you so sharp-tongued?"

Dorothy laughed coldly. "Sharp-tongued? What about your actions? Getting pregnant out of wedlock and bringing the child home to embarrass Mom. How can you complain about me?"

Dorothy's words stung. Susan's heart ached.

At that moment, Susan realized their sisterly bond was truly gone. She felt regret, but there was no turning back.

"I'm not the only one who got pregnant out of wedlock. I'm not the only one who wanted to be a single mom. You just found a responsible Henry. So, you're no better than I am. You have no right to judge me!" Susan retorted coldly.

Susan's heart ached. She had always protected Dorothy, even standing up to her peers for her. Now, she had to confront her own sister.

Susan hit a nerve, making Dorothy even angrier. "Are you saying Henry married me out of pity?"

"Stop twisting my words. I didn't mean that," Susan said, turning away, hurt by Dorothy's unreasonable attitude.

"That's exactly what you mean. Do you see yourself as a savior? Without you, I might be in your shoes now, bearing a child and enduring judgment. If you hadn't asked Henry to marry me, he wouldn't have taken responsibility. Should I be grateful? Or are you just jealous that I'm living a better life?" Dorothy's words cut deep.

Dorothy's loud voice scared Spring, who started crying uncontrollably.

Angry, Susan stood up with Spring in her arms. "I don't want to argue with you!" She turned to go back to her room.

But Dorothy blocked the door.

"What do you want?" Susan asked coldly, her anger rising.

"I'm warning you, don't flaunt your child in front of Henry. Otherwise, don't blame me for not caring about our sisterly bond!" Dorothy glared, full of malice.

Spring was still crying, and Susan stared straight at Dorothy.

Dorothy's fear that Susan might try to entice Henry caused Susan to let out a bitter laugh. If Susan had feelings for Henry, Dorothy wouldn't have ended up pregnant with his child in the first place.Seeing Susan's cold stare, Dorothy felt uneasy but pretended to be calm. "Henry is soft-hearted. If he sees you with a child, he might pity you. Don't do anything disgraceful!"

"Dorothy, let me make it clear. I have no interest in your Henry. Even if you handed him to me, I wouldn't take a second look. So, you can rest easy. Don't think Henry is such a great catch that I would go to any lengths to get him!" Susan's heart hardened as she spoke.

Susan's revelation about Dorothy once entering Henry's bed left Dorothy seething with anger. Pointing accusingly at Susan, she snapped, "Are you trying to shame me? Don't push me to be impolite!"Dorothy's hand reached out, but Susan, holding Spring, quickly stepped back. She didn't want a confrontation, especially with Spring scared and crying in her arms. Susan felt heartbroken.

However, Dorothy wasn't willing to let it go. Ignoring the crying Spring, she continued to shout, "You're such a great sister, saying all these hurtful things. I'm so lucky to have a sister like you!"

With that, Dorothy took a step forward, aggressively approaching Susan!
